Harbor at Wild Dunes Golf Links
Played On 03/28/2018Terrible Experience
This one of two courses on Isle of Palms managed by the Wild DunesResort. Both are overpriced for what you get, especially the Harbor Course. My wife and I played this tight and challenging course this morning after checking out from the hotel. It should have been more enjoyable, but our expectations were dashed once we discovered that there is no driving range and that many holes were under repair, had temporary tee boxes, or had unmarked tee boxes. Perhaps it was too early in the season, but we should have be given a heads-up about conditions when we reserved our tee time and certainly once we checked in. For the quality of conditions, we should have received a discount or other spiff. Nothing was offered, even after my wife tripped in an unrepaired, hard-to-see pothole in the middle orf the cart path just past the tee boxes at hole #15. She fell hard onto the rough asphalt, twisted her ankle, tore her pants, and bloodied her knee. We had to quit for the day and the rest of our stay. We are severely disappointed in this course and its management.
Northcliffe Golf & Country Club
Played On 03/27/2017Once a good value, but no more
I used to play Northcliffe a lot when I was re-learning the game and needed a good practice course. It was a good value then, but not now. The cost is about the same, but the condition of the course has deteriorated greatly. The fairways are barely acceptable but the greens are in very poor condition (even now in the spring when the grass should be green and growing). You can't putt straight with all the bumps, bare spots and weeds. It seems to me that they are preparing to shut down the course and are avoiding spending anything at all.
Northcliffe Golf & Country Club
Played On 08/20/2014Easy and well-maintained, but very dry
I had some extra time on a Wednesday so I booked a discounted tee time online, thinking that I would take a drive out to this course for novelty's sake. The course is fairly easy, though the back nine is tougher than the front. I'm playing in August, so the fairways are dry and burnt. I find this odd since the sand traps (more dirt than sand) were filled with water sitting from a lack of proper drainage. But fairways were groomed to the best they could be, considering the hot summer conditions. I would recommend that the course upgrade its irrigation system/schedule and beef up their fertilization/weeding program. All in all, this was a cheap date that I wouldn't mind repeating midweek. Played with some nice locals. Don't expect much at the clubhouse, though. This is muni course with limited resources.
