Springdale Country Club
Played On 10/29/2022Best public course in WNC
This was my first round at Springdale in over 5 years. I had heard so many great things about the course since it changed hands in ownership a few years ago that I had to check it out myself. Booked through GolfNow for 55 bucks and it was the best 55 I’ve ever spent. Greens were still on their way back from aeration but were firm and rolled true. Can only imagine how great they are in peak season. Fairways were plush with no dead spots or brown patches. Challenging but playable rough. Tee boxes were well manicured and green. There were a couple of holes on the back that I didn’t particularly care for, but I would say my score on those had more to do with it than the actual golf hole itself! That alone would make for a great round, but there is more. Leave the speaker at home! For those of us who enjoy a little background music while we play the carts have Bluetooth speakers and USB ports for chargers. Also have gps and are incredibly helpful for someone unfamiliar with the course. The pace of play was great. My threesome flew through the course in under 4 hours. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. The clubhouse and driving range were phenomenal. It’s a little under an hour outside of Asheville, but it is well worth the drive. Don’t pay the $150+ for the resort course in Asheville, drive out to Canton and enjoy the country mountain views and play a great round of golf in what I would call the best public/resort course in WNC.

Overall nice course. Tons of elevation changes. Some blind tee shots. Recommend driving forward to see the layout before hitting your tee shot. Some tight places to hit off the tee. Greens rolled true. Driver can probably stay in the bag and you’ll be fine on most of the par 4’s. Will definitely be back.
Springdale Country Club
Played On 08/04/2018While the staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, the course just did not live up to my expectations. The potential is there for the course to be a hidden gem in the mountains, but right now it is not. The front nine was a challenge and in better shape than the back only because there was a discernible difference between the rough and the fairway on some holes. There are simply better options in the surrounding area for close to, if not less than, the $28 hot deal that I booked through golf now.

I will not be back until the greens are better. There are massive dead spots and places where sod has been placed and is in the process of taking. The areas of the green that had grass were shaggy and slow. The tee boxes, fairways, bunkers and the rest of the course was in great shape. The greens were just too bad to overlook given the hour drive to get there.

What a fantastic place to play golf. Everyone on staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Range and putting green were in excellent shape, and the course was phenomenal. Worth every bit of the hour+ drive from Asheville. Top-notch!
South/North at Etowah Valley Country Club & Golf Lodge
Played On 10/01/2017Greens were the best thing about the course. Fairways were patchy in places, especially on the North side, but to be expected this time of the year. Nice local option to play if you find a good deal on golf now.

Played On 10/21/2016Great course
The course was in great shape. A few wet areas from the recent rain but nothing to be concerned about. It was my first time playing here, and even though it was an hour drive, I will definitely be back for more. The greens rolled true and there were no bad lies in the fairway. Loved the course and it is a steal for 30 bucks.

Great place to play in WNC. The greens were tricky and were very slow from all the rain we have had recently. The course was well marked and had no blind shots. Very difficult though. Like others have said you definitely have to work hard to score.

The course is newly reopened after the greens had a meltdown earlier this year. They had two temporary greens on 4&5 but I imagine they won't remain that way as soon as next week possibly. One of my favorite courses to play in WNC. You can usually get it on GolfNow for a cheap price which makes it even better.
