Red Fox Run Golf Course
Played On 06/09/2015great local community golf course
this is a wonderful track located on an old air force base just outside of Marquette, MI in the community of Gwinn, MI. The course is a lower end operating budget but has a lot of great features. I play here often and the pace of play is very good.
The course design is moderate. It has its very easy, straight ahead holes. But then it has it holes that are longer, one par three is difficult because of the size of the green from front to back is very small. Then some holes follow the natural landscape which causes some big blind shots and elevation changes.
The BEST part of this golf course is its friendliness to all levels of golfers. from those who like to play from the tips to the beginner, youth, and senior citizens. The crew has placed the standard pin on the greens but also now have the larger "Big Cup" as well. Which speeds up play. They also have tee markers specifically for youth / beginner golfers. these tees are moved up on the fairway. This is a great idea!
the clubhouse is very nice as well, great food. staff is friendly and easy to visit with while haveing a drink an/or meal.
TimberStone Golf Course at Pine Mountain
Played On 05/21/2015tricky for first time golfer
This is a great track through the rolling mountains of Pine Mountain Resort. this course is a narrower track through the woods that is breathtaking and beautiful to play. They do not have a yardage book. So take close look at the yardage markers in the center of the fairway. Some holes have some blind shots and others have a visually small landing area (but larger than it looks). I played in the Spring. This past winter was tough on the course with some winter kill but you can tell the grounds crew is working hard to get things back to par.
The staff was great! All very friendly from the bag/cart attendant, pro shop, and the cook that was on the front porch grilling.
Sweetgrass Golf Club
Played On 05/20/2015Like playing on a carpet.
This golf course for the spring season was in almost perfect shape. The fairways are like playing off a carpet at home. Greens are also in good shape from the winter. Long hitters can stripe the ball long with the wide open landing areas. The approach shot into the greens are a lot tougher. Watch the green area and the features around them. Green speeds and breaks are somewhat tricky so read them carefully.
Played in Spring rates so the rate was great.
Staff was okay. I felt rushed when in the pro shop and starter. Not very talkative at all. starter seemed grumpy. But the course marshal was AWESOME!! He was so friendly and very informative about the course and the pro event that comes to the course.
The snack bar at the turn was good. They offered a wrap that was awesome and very delicious.
