Rock Island Golf Course
Played On 06/27/2017Been a while
It's been over 20yrs since I golfed "the rock pile", the 9 hole course I knew as a kid. This isn't that course anymore. I blew through town on business and spontaneously stopped for a round mid-afternoon. The front nine is pretty flat (despite your opening tee shot) and pretty long, just like I remembered. The new back nine on the other side of the road was pretty cool. Some very challenging shots, water in play with tempting distances in mind, uphill holes bordered by Apple orchards, and some narrow tee shots in contrast to the front. Greens we're in great shape and appears regular players respect the grounds. A deal for the price. A little noisy next to the highway but who doesn't like a gallery?
Downriver Golf Course
Played On 06/27/2017Early Walker
Came to Spokane on business and was looking for a course to play the next morning. Settled on Downriver as it was close to my hotel. Called ahead and was told I could walk on before 7am no problem. Caught the course after some high winds and rain the night before so there was plenty of debris. The grounds crew was out in force and well ahead of me. It was a great course for the $33 and in spectacular shape for the price. The course was a good use of the topography with some cool downhill tee shots, some flat holes, uphill holes, long par threes, and I think three drivable par fours. I putted terribly and still managed an 83. Will hit there again when in Spokane no doubt.
