This can be a very challenging course regardless of course conditions. However, this course is in poor condition. The only lush parts of the course are the tee boxes. The best way to describe the fairways is "mown dry prairie". The bunkers and traps are very firm, like clay with a 1/4 inch of sand (or less) on top.

We loved playing San Vicente. The course is in good shape, not too difficult but with enough challenge for the amateur golfer. Tee boxes are a little shaggy, and the greenside bunkers could use some more sand. The staff are friendly and helpful. Wild Turkeys roam the course - if you're lucky you'll get a good show from the males.
Hello, thank you for the five star review! We are happy that we could exceed your expectations! At San Vicente Inn & Golf Club we pride ourselves on creating an amazing atmosphere and we are excited that you had a chance to experience that. Come back and see us again soon!
Castle Creek Country Club

Our first time playing this course. Diabolical layout. The course makes you think about every shot, and when you're in trouble you're deep in trouble. Several holes where you can't see the landing area from the tee. The course in general needs maintenance and some TLC. Inconsistent greens. Much of the rough is high enough to hide your ball. Bumpy, unmown tee boxes. The young man in the pro shop did not seem happy to be there, not very welcoming. Still, it's worth the green fee for anyone who doesn't expect a pristine golf course.
Thank you for your review! We're pleased that you enjoyed the challenge of our layout, but we apologize that our greens didn't meet your expectations. We're working on improving our course every day and we appreciate your feedback. Thank you again and we hope to have you back again soon in the future!
Steele Canyon Golf Club - Canyon/Ranch
Played On 07/18/2014Great course; Well Worth the Money
Played the Ranch/Meadow layout. These three nines will challenge you mentally: lots of elevation changes, forced carries, sloping fairways. The course is in great shape: fairways, greens and bunkers all in good condition. Whether you manage to get a discount or not, or if you're a visitor to San Diego, you should play this course at least once.

Carlton Oaks will challenge you in many ways. Unfortunately part of that challenge comes from some sparse fairways and many concrete-like bunkers. This is not the first time I've found the course in this condition.
