Old Course Ranfurly Golf Club
Played On 08/27/2021No a bad track
Quirky course, 15 blind tee shots out of 18 so quite difficult to navigate your way round if your visiting for the first time, greenkeeper on course was very helpful on providing information at certain holes. No pro shop (that we could see) very kind young girl from the bar area gave us scorecards and checked us in. Staff and members we encountered were friendly although we were stuck behind a 4 ball of elderly gentleman from the 6th hole who didn't let us play through so pace of play from that point was extremely slow!!!!! the greenkeeper told us that they are regular slow players and refuse to let people play through this is obviously an issue so maybe the club should have a quiet word with these elderly gentleman about course etiquette. Greens were very true and fast also in great condition, its a well maintained course and great for an inland parkland course but quite hilly with blind shots galore. Overall I would reccomend this course

Played On 11/19/2017Its a real shame
Yes this is winter but this course is absolutely soaking, tees and greens quite good but everything in between is close to abysmal also teed off behind a group of youths playing a university tie who were extremely slow eventually teed off 20 mins late and got held up on nearly every single hole the pace of play was bordering on ridiculous especially when there was 5 of them aimless walking about every 'fairway' from the 13th someone from the club really needs to have a word with the uni's about their representatives course etiquette. The staff at the restaurant were pleasant and helpful its just a shame that the state of the course really lets it down as the location, set up, lay out, design is absolutely brilliant if only this course could sort out its drainage it would be up there as one of the best parkland courses in Ayrshire but it is a million miles away from that in its current predicament. I would only consider playing this again if I knew there was no university's playing and there had been a 3 week dry spell in Scotland so really that is highly unlikely as we struggle to go 3 days without rain and this course just can handle the rain.
I am sorry to hear about your review and experience at Rowallan Castle.
Firstly, I can only apologise about the pace of play set by the University group. We have made the organiser aware of your comments and hopefully this wont happen again in the future.
Secondly, regarding the underfoot conditions of the course. I think its fair to say that this has been one of the wettest golfing years on record. In fact, in October we recorded our wettest month since opening the course in 2010. And with November not really being a dry month, the course has had very little rest from the rain.
We are currently working on our winter maintenance programme which sees drainage projects on 6 holes already underway - with more to be installed. We are hoping this will help the course recover quicker after prolonged wet periods, and result in a better experience for all golfers here at Rowallan.
We hope you will return to Rowallan Castle Golf Club in the near future.
