Algonkian Golf Course
Played On 10/10/2018A sad story
Unfortunately they did not not over seed with rye grass in the winter and this spring there was no grass. So they seeded with Bermuda to compensate and it took some time to come in. It finally came in on the fairways and rough and is in the process of taking over the bent grass areas. Burmuda grass is ugly and difficult to get a ball out of the rough unles it is cut to about 11/2 ". They let the rough get long to a 3" length making it almost impossible to find your ball unless you step on it muchless hit it out of the rough. They also let the fairway Bermuda get too deep which lifts the ball up but reduces compression and distance. The course in in a flood plain and is bordered by the Potomac river so it floods easily and when it gets wet it stays wet! You can loose a shoe when it gets wet if you walk this course. The routing is good and the holes interesting. It is the coures conditions and the switching to Bermuda grass that has ruined this course for me. I've played it several times and now will never play the course! Play Brambleton or Herndon Centennial golf courses in the area. They are compatible in price and in better condition. ALGONKIAN HAS BEEN RUINED BY POOR COURSE MANITENANCE BROUGHT UPON BY BUGET REASONS AND PENNY WISE POUND FOOLISH DECISIONS! A sad story.
Clustered Spires Golf Course
Played On 11/21/2017Good course, good value and always in good condition
Very nice course that will not beat you up. Always well maintained. What you see is what you get. No blind shots or mutiple level greens. I always enjoy playing here and travel 55 minutes to get here.

We chose the course for a golf reunion because of good reviews and it is mid way between the foursome homes - NOVA & Williamsburg. The single digit HCP played from the whites, the 11.2 HCP and the other two played from the Golds. The front 9 was a good warm up and easier than the back 9. The back 9 is more interesting with many uneven lies and a few blind shots but very fair although more challenging. We were first timers there and lost a few strokes due to not knowing the course. This is to be expected but we still had a GREAT TIME! I really like the course layout. It was in very good shape and the wide fairways were appreciated by all but especially the two guys that don't have a HCP and don't keep score. I DEFINETLY want to play this again. It was not crowded and that may be because it was the day after July 4 TH and responsible people were back working. Three of us are retired. As a VSGA member I paid $30. That is a great value for such a nice course! CONGRADULATIONS to the staff, Pro & Superintendent for getting the course in great shape after being closed for a few years. This is its second year on the "rebound" and doing well. Thanks to all. "I'll be back"!
Bull Run Golf Club
Played On 08/01/2016Maintenance was poor
Given the summer high heat many of the fairways were suffering with brown grass spots. The fringes on many of the greens were loaded with crabgrass. We often had to move the ball so you were not putting though the crabgrass. The layout was nice. Many of the holes you may have seen at other courses. All in all the value for the greens fees ($47) was good. A very fair course. No blind shots. The 18 th hole from the whites was difficult. With a decent drive of 220 years you have a down hill lie to carry water for 200 yards. It is a par five so you have some option to layout with a wedge and then a hybrid over water to the green. Good luck. Do not misjudge your layout or you wind up in the weeds and water. I'd play again but in the show shoulder seasons.

I'm a 70 yo 10.3 hip. Locals told me course is under new management. Played several years ago and was not impressed. This time - totaly different! This is a beautiful course, very well maintained, lots of water, wild flowers and tress. Great course for a good golfer to practice his approach shots and short game! Great course for seniors, hight hip, and new golfers and juniors. A tight course with trees and water. I played during the week and played as a single - very peasant! My only issues was the greens. They were too slow - Velcro slow! On the first hole I had a 40' put and left it 20' short -surprise! It was difficult to adjust to the speed. Otherwise , this is a very fine course and worth playing.
Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We value your opinion and are always trying to improve our guests experience. I hope you will come back and try us again this season as we anticipate the course to be in excellent shape.
