Falls Village Golf Course
Played On 07/22/2018Course Headed Downhill
Only payed $32 to play there on Sunday afternoon (7/22). Now I know why. As previously noted, pace of play was excellent as there were very few on the course. Several tee boxes were dirt and most of the greens had significant bald spots. Also, the greens were covered in unrepaired ball marks. They looked like the greens at Knight's Play. The fairways in pretty good shape although one of them looked they had only mowed the right side of it. The bunkers were in bad shape. Several had standing water from the rains the night before and several others had weeds growing in them. They supposedly rebuilt the bunkers a few years ago but you can't tell. The driving range, chipping green, and putting greens were in good shape though. This was a good course once upon a time. You get what you pay for I guess. It's now out of our rotation.

This was a great course when I played it 2 years ago. It was in very good shape. Sunday (4/1) I went over to the course to use the driving range. There is a pool table in the what used to be the "Pro Shop". I didn't see a lot of merchandise and all golf transaction are handled in the bar area.
The staff was very friendly and they do have a cart attendant that will bring a cart to you in the parking lot or give you a ride to clubhouse if you're walking.
I took a picture of the practice green as I walked by and posted it here. I know it's been a tough winter and as you can see, the practice green is in sorry shape.
The driving range was in a similar state. The hitting area was about 75% sand and the landing area itself looked very barren. It's all summer grass and I don't there there had been any attempt to over-seed any of it.
Since I wasn't playing, I asked someone who was walking off the 9th green how the course looked and he said that it looked like they had run out of money and were letting the course go.
I'm not sure what the story is; bad winter or lack of funds, but the course is in sad shape these days.

Excellent golf course with an awesome and very challenging layout. Just played here on 8/12. The greens and fairways were in great shape. You won't finish this course in 4 hours if you can't keep the ball in the fairway!
16 of us played this course as part of a 3-day, 4-round, 2 night packaged deal with Tobacco Road Travel so the price was extremely good!
Note: there's a reason that most courses in the NC Sandhills are cheaper to play in August: It was very hot and there were lots of little gnats and things flying around!!! My only complaint was that they didn't keep the water coolers on the course filled during the Friday afternoon we played. Also, there wasn't a beverage cart or ranger with water either.
Lake at Carolina Trace Country Club
Played On 06/11/2016Just Punched the Greens!
Played the Lake Course on Saturday, June 11th. Beautiful course! Tee boxes and fairways were excellent and there was plenty of fluffy white sand in the bunkers - trust me on that. Unfortunately, they forgot to mention that they had just punched their greens on Monday when we made our tee time!!!! We played for $35 which included range balls and a free beer if we filled out a questionnaire. Also, they added some new bunkers last year and SkyGolf/SkyCaddie doesn't know about them yet.
This course is now closed indefinitely according to their Facebook page.
