Glens Falls Country Club

If you haven't had the chance to play GFCC, do it and do it as soon as you can. This is a wonderful example of Ross at his best. I can't describe the course better than Rand Morrissett did in the Golf Club Atlas, but I can say after playing many other top rated courses, this is special. The condition of the course is perfect. The tees, fairways and greens are bent grass and in great shape. The greens were at 9.5 I would guess and had subtle breaks that had you shaking your head. Many of the holes have driving views where you can't see the greens, but that isn't an issue once you understand that when you get to your ball you have a perfect view of what comes next. Make sure that on your first visit you play with a member who can give you the inside scoop you need to navigate this unique course. It's not listed as a very long course. From the very back it is just 6500 yds. But taking into consideration the uphills and the prevailing breezes, this course plays longer than its listed numbers.
I could go on for quite a while on this course. Advice to the golfer that wants to see a very fine example of Donald Ross' work in a wonderful setting, go to Glens Falls.
