Loudon Country Club
Played On 10/05/2017Nice Layout-Nice Greens-Great Value
First time playing London Country Club and was more than pleasantly surprised! Nice layout, very true putting on the greens a touch fast but not unreasonable. The greens didn't hold on approach shots even with short irons so land short or just on to hold . Pro shop was a bit dark but pro was nice enough and helpful. Brand new Yamaha carts. Price was $30 for 18 with cart midweek so great value. Played the blue tees which was a challenge for me at five handicap. Everything is pretty much right in front of you. I hit driver on all par 4 and 5's and never reached any trouble off the tee. I think if you hit it more than 250 you might get into trouble playing from white tees with driver. Stay left side of green on 18 as it slopes right and pond on right that swallows up golf balls. Very nice views with foliage and hills and some beautiful homes around the course. I'll be back for sure!
Shattuck, The
Played On 09/28/2017Bad design-Poor conditions-Nice Pro
First time playing The Shattuck. I had heard it was difficult but thought playing it late in the season would make it enjoyable and challenging. The Head Pro was very friendly and hooked me up with three other golfers who had played it before. I was told to aim at the pile markers on each hole. The problem was if you missed the pile marker by more than five yards either side your ball was gone. Lost ball! In addition you could not see from the tee where to "miss". Also, probably five or six holes you could not even see the pole marker from the tee. Blind shot after blind shot. It was hit and hope! In addition, the condition of the course was bad. For some reason I thought the course was a special resort type course. It was a mountain course at best with a lot of bad lies in fairways and rough. You couldn't see the fairway from the tee on many holes. Our golf cart had no governor on it so going downhill was dangerous. Cartpaths were a mess. Greens were okay. Sand traps were wet and grainy. Snack bar at turn had some specials which were pretty reasonable but slow. I am a five handicap and lost five golf balls. I can't imagine playing this course in the spring before your swing is in tact. I won't rush back to play here!
Pembroke Pines Country Club
Played On 07/13/2016Tale of Two Golf Nines
The front nine is very forgiving and open, and the back nine is a completely different course with tighter holes, interesting design, and massive undulating greens. Course has had some improvements since new ownership took over and our foursome got a fantastic deal to play in the middle of the day in the middle of the week in very hot temperatures. Some tee boxes have been improved, pro shop was small but adequate. Pro or Assistant Pro was business-like but not overly friendly. Had beer and appetizers after golf. Beer was in pitchers and was warm. Waitress was very nice and not sure what she could do about a warm keg, so we drank it anyway. Appetizers were good. A few of the greens had damage to them, and the 18th green had some major damage to it. Our match came down to the last hole and the two guys that were still in it had to move their balls to another part of the green in order not to putt over the damage. On the 10th tee there is major construction going on. I was told they are building condos or apartments around the tee, so they have a temporary tee which shortens the hole considerably. I hit driver from the white tees and it was too much club. All in all, a fair test at an excellent price, but don't expect anything special just yet. Maybe when improvements are done it will be better.
Canterbury Woods Country Club
Played On 07/06/2016Play the Blue Tees
Course was in good condition despite a long stretch of dry weather. Like the layout and changes in elevation. I played the black tees or tips and I am a 5 handicap. Blue tees would have been more enjoyable and still challenging enough. My recommendation is to play the blue tees unless you are a regular and know all the places to hit. Generous fairways, numerous elevation changes sometimes accounting for two club difference or more, large greens that putted pretty true. Nice scenery with mountains in distance, farms, woods, etc.

Played On 09/04/2014Greens in excellent shape, great mountain views!
Greens in excellent shape, great mountain views! Will probably be spectacular in a couple weeks when the leaves start turning color although finding your ball will be even more difficult. Many severely sloped fairways, rough and layout in general. Often don't hit driver or 3 wood off the tee. Many blind shots. Pro suggested I play from the white tees even though I am a 7 handicap and I am glad I listened to him. I shot 84 with a few lost balls because I didn't realize how severe the slope of the hole was beforehand. Good value and I played 18 holes in 2 and 1/2 hours! Good buffalo chicken sandwich in the tavern after the round.
