I'm on the tee box and they're on the green. Definitely a forced carry! Photo submitted by VanIsleDuffer on 09/03/2016

Duncan Meadows Golf and Country Club
Played On 08/28/2017Get ready for every kind of golf you can imagine
Okay, the first several holes are wide open, rolling prairie hills. Up to a green, then down to a green. Up to a green, down to a green...
Then, a few holes with seriously tight gaps from the tee that reward a good drive. Strategic bunker locations, nice views and surprisingly lush conditions.
I'm glad I finally played golf at Duncan Meadows. I'd definitely go back!
Meadow Gardens Golf Course
Played On 08/24/2017Lots of variety, lots of scrambling!
Fairway bunkers on Hole #1 welcome you to a course with plenty of dog legs, water hazards, sand traps and challenges!
Lots of fun, although playing "blind" as a first time visitor was definitely a disadvantage. It's hard to gauge the layout for sure, so I'll have to come back and post (hopefully) a better scorecard!
I liked playing at Meadow Gardens. Lots of variety and lots of scrambling. A bit lacking in shade on a hot day but a pretty setting that is surprisingly free of the sounds of suburbia. Go play this course, you can let 'er rip!
Qualicum Beach Memorial Golf Club
Played On 08/22/2017Grand Daddy of a golf course
This place has been in operation for 100+ years. The trees are majestic and so are the views from the patio, putting area and on the first green.
Definitely playable year round, excellent drainage. Owned by the Town of QB, contracted out operation of the biz...
It's a big 9 hole course and because you cross a busy road after playing 3 holes, it breaks things up and gives a sense of it being more like an 18 hole layout.
Play two rounds and hopefully shave a few strokes on the back nine!
As is typical with all mid-Island golf courses, Qualicum Memorial is a pleasure to play.
Caveat: Not a track to play if your time is limited. Can be slow!
Storey Creek Golf Club
Played On 08/17/2017Beautiful course that demands your attention in all ways
Wow, what a nice layout. All nature, no houses.
Lost several golf balls, struggling to play this course. It is challenging for the average recreational golfer but so what? It's such a nice setting, you will enjoy the day no matter what.
Some fairways are literally carved from the forest and it makes for quite a visual perspective.
Bring extra golf balls and play Storey Creek. It has everything a golf course can offer in terms of views, playability and design...Very nice.
Fairwinds Golf Club
Played On 06/17/2017What a Rip-Off!
This golf course is a huge rip off. They charge green fees that don't include a cart but you'd think they do based on the prices! On top of that, they seem to still be on the GolfNow network but NEVER offer a Hot Deal and NEVER have any decent tee times - specifically at affordable rates. Even at 3pm, their twilight rate is basically 60 bucks without cart. I used to enjoy playing severla rounds a season at Fairwinds but haven't been back for two summers now, as they decided to discontinue offering any deals and instead dfocusing on ripping off Islanders. They act like they're something special when in fact, they're just one of many local golf courses, all of whom offer much better value.
get your heads out of your collective you know what, Fairwinds management! Start offering fair green fees and cart rental rates. Otherwise, you'll never grow your golf business.
Morningstar Golf Course
Played On 08/19/2016The greens are great in 2016
I was compelled to offer a review of Morningstar G.C. in 2016 since the last person's comments were posted in 2014.
Yes, the greens were severely damaged then but have fully recovered and this season, have been superb! Pure, smooth green and rolling true and quick :)
Fairways have played firm and fast as summer unfolded, and in August 2016 bounce-and-roll was good for another 30+ yards easily.
Generally speaking, this is one tough golf course LOL. For me, breaking 100 is a good round. Scratch golfers won't look down their noses at this course. It demands long shots with accuracy.
Hole #12 is my favourite. If you play there, you'll see why!
Morningstar separates the real golfers from those who aspire to. You definitely should check it out. Twilight 18 with a cart (starts at 3pm) is fifty bucks all in. A great deal.
Campbell River Golf & Country Club
Played On 08/16/2016Decent course but...
Another hot day. Fairways were like concrete which helped with the bounce & roll but...
This golf course needs to improve their on-course signage!!! I made several wrong turns at various cart path junctions. Intersections like I've never seen before...sheesh.
The course itself is nice enough - aptly named, as there are Sequoia trees everywhere.
It's worth playing for sure, but they need to spruce things up a bit, in my humble opinion.
Cultus Lake Golf Club
Played On 08/12/2016What a fun little golf course
On a typical hot, humid August day, I played a twilight round by myself. It was quiet on the course so pace was all up to me. One of the best features of Cultus Lake G.C. is the shade! It is a pretty setting and well worth the drive to play some golf.
Rates are decent and you'll get the opportunity to use all the clubs in your bag. Not an intimidating place to play, but not excessively easy either.
Recommended for all levels of golfer - except long drivers LOL
Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club
Played On 08/10/2016Beautiful and Tough
First time round was a mid-afternoon tee time on a hot, sticky August day. Carts had GPS, the Starter at #1 tee was friendly and helpful and right off the bat, you can see you're in for a challenging round of golf with few flat lies!
Being the average golfer I am, I lost several balls through the round. There's definitely a premium on accuracy at Westwood Plateau LOL
The views are great, the design of the course is too - nothing but positive things to say about my round. I want a second try at this track though, so will be back in 2017.
Recommend this golf course for sure. :)
Gallagher's Canyon Golf and Country Club
Played On 04/08/2016A beautiful setting and a great layout
I played a twilight round solo on a Friday. It was awesome! Teed off at 3pm, finished by 6:45pm. Unseasonably gorgeous weather (27c/80f) made it seem like a summer day and playing 'blind' at a course known for its challenges didn't bother me one bit.
Par is 71 and I scored a 93 so that tells you all you need to know about my game. LOL Nonetheless, the round was just awesome - such a beautiful setting with the big Ponderosa pines lining the fairways. Views of Kelowna and Okanagan Lake add to the experience and I am so happy I was able to finally play this track ($65CDN all in with cart).
Will definitely play here again and by choice, at twilight. Cheaper, less crowded, nature comes out and the best lighting of the day.
Arrowsmith Golf and Country Club
Played On 08/24/2014A great workout for your short game!
This course is a great place to work on your short game. 13 of the 18 holes are Par 3, but don't be fooled.....The greens are surrounded by lush mounds and if you bounce off the wrong side, you'll be pitching up and onto the green. Bounce off the correct side, and you might see a generous kick towards the pin.
The setting is also very tranquil and late day rounds are awesome. I would recommend a cart as the course - though short - is quite hilly. On a summer day, playing "pooped" will take the fun out of your round...
If you take advantage of the deals on Golf Now, you can play a round of 18 with a cart for as little as $25....
The ladies (and Paul) in the pro shop are very nice. The restaurant offers tasty food and dining on the clubhouse patio is absolutely top notch.
I recommend this course to golfers of all skill levels.
Eaglecrest Golf Club
Played On 08/22/2014Awesome greens, lots of houses
This golf course features the best greens in the mid-Island area. True and fast! A very pretty setting that is stretched out, around and through many different golf course neighbourhoods. Bad slices and pulls can impact houses, patio furniture, etc.
If you're able to keep your shots under decent control for the most part, there's little to fear.
Interestingly, because of the layout, a 9 hole round is actually 13 holes! Twilight rounds here are superb, especially if you find yourself coming down the 18th fairway about 30 - 60 minutes before sundown. The distant views are stellar. :)
Alberni Golf Club
Played On 07/26/2014Nice course, lousy pricing
$39 for twilight, starting at 3pm? Pretty steep price, considering neighbouring courses charge anywhere between $25 and $35. Plus, this course doesn't offer a single rider rate on their carts.
I guess that's what happens when you're the only golf course in town. (The Hollies is not really a golf course).
