Nine Hole Executive at Viewpoint Golf Resort
Played On 07/29/2017Play the 18 hole course
I've played the 18 hole course at Viewpoint quite a few times so I thought I'd get out with my wife, who doesn't golf much and play the executive course. By the 4th tee box we'd already been biten by fire ants like 3 times. Many of the greens are poorly kept. For just a bit more money you'll enjoy your round more and play a much nicer course if you just stick to the 18 hole course.
Mountain Brook Golf Club
Played On 07/01/2016Quick morning round
Pace was excellent: 3 hours
Staff was very friendly and courteous.
Course layout was nothing impressive but I did enjoy the back nine much more than the front. Course conditions were difficult to judge because I played in the rain and the recently mowed grass had stuck together in clumps. With that being said, greens rolled nice (slow but nice). Some of the grass around par 3 greens had been aerated, but for the price no big deal.
Fun early morning round. I will go back early peak season.
Ocotillo Golf Club - White/Gold
Played On 11/14/2015Bring your A game
This is a great course that is in great shape. There was still an overseed warning, so the greens rolled a but slower (not too much though). Lots of water and many of the holes force you to carry water into the green (not just the par 3). Short and simple, you should play here.
Las Sendas Golf Club
Played On 07/15/2015My favorite course
This is a fantastic course, perhaps my favorite here in Phoenix. The course is in great shape with exception to some of the greens. Putts were quite bouncy in spots. Summer makes it tough, I'm sure.
Las Colinas Golf Club
Played On 06/27/2015Good inexpensive course
This is a great, inexpensive course for the person who loves golf but doesn't need or want to pay the "big bucks" (I sometimes do :)
No ice coolers on the carts but the food/beverage lady will take care of you. Rough is cut short and a lot of dead spots around the greens as a result of the course failing to enforce no carts around the greens. Maybe the don't water there either. I don't know.
Course layout is somewhat challenging but not difficult by any means.
Toka Sticks Golf Club
Played On 04/19/2014Course with some great potential
This course has been a solid three star course for some time with some great potential for the future. Improvements to the clubhouse are currently under way.
As far as the course conditions, the greens and fairways are in great condition. Greens around this time of year of kept long (so they will stay green I'm sure) and are quite slow. Although they are slow the greens they roll quite well. The rough around the greens is by no means long but left to grow much more than many AZ courses.
I enjoy this course.
Palm at McCormick Ranch Golf Club
Played On 04/02/2014Fantastic place to play
Great place to play! I would recommend this course 11 times out of 10. Depending on hole locations this course can be very challenging. I rarely 3-putt but I had at least three today with one 4-putt (rough day).
The only gripe I have about the course is the condition of the grass on the range... its pretty much dirt instead of grass.
Apache Stronghold Golf Course
Played On 2/6/2013Great layout that needs some TLC
This is a great course in terms of the layout. There are some really fun holes to play here.
Know that this is a summer course so if you play from Dec-April this course will not be in the best shape. They do not over-seed their grass!
I can't wait to go back… but I will wait until April.
Thanks for the great review AJ! We are in a transition period and the extreme hot weather has hurt that process. We certainly are watering daily but with the heat and the sun many of our high spots are "stressed". I can assure you we are addressing this very seriously! The extreme heat that followed a very mild spring created the challenges we face today. We hope to have things back to normal very soon. Thanks for letting us know your concerns!
