Interesting Course

Part of the LA County system La Mirada is an interesting, undulating hilly course. Not quite full length (par 70), it's still challenging and fun. Lots of hills, gullies, mini canyons and hills to mess you up; also the fairways are tightly packed so it's easy to wind up on the wrong hole! Only a couple water hazards; the trees and hills are the biggest obstacles. Only complaint is that the driving range is dirt and when they rake it for balls it turns into a huge dust storm.

A special place

Having played many of the public courses in the greater LA area, I can say that rustic Canyon is a special kind of course. It literally is rustic and in a canyon. Beyond that, it has huge greens that slowly transition into fairways, massive natural sand traps all over the place that are actually dry creek beds, meandering sand cart paths, and some very tricky greens. No two holes are alike and all are challenging in their own way.

Good little course

This "double executive" course is 18 holes; most of them par 3 and 4 with one par 5. Nothing to complain about, but do keep your ears open for "fore!" as the layout results in balls flying by often. Pace of play was painful, but can't blame the course; it was packed on a Sunday afternoon. I love that they have lights so you can finish out your twilight round, and in general it's a nice place to play. The driving range is a bonus.

Great public course

I play here quite often because it’s not too far south from me to play with my Orange County friends. It’s also a great value and, because it has two full 18 hole courses, you have options. I also love that they have a real grass driving range for a few extra dollars, as well as a full café and bar at the 19th hole. There’s nothing bad I can say about this course, it’s just a solid, well-maintained and high-quality public course that is reasonably priced.

What a course!

I read good things about this course on here and tried it out on a perfect Sunday afternoon. Easy check-in at an our door starter table, hit some balls on their two-level driving range and got a driving cart included in our rate. Fun, interesting course full of rolling "mounds," and water hazards. Great conditions, just overall nice, fun, diverse and challenging course. Will definitely play here again!

Nice course

This is a nice course, but faces tough compettion from The Lakes in El Segundo just around the corner, which offers better variety of holes and distances. Also found the conditions to be a bit mushy (wet) in places, but might have been unique to this day.

One note: when I showed up for our round, they did NOT have us on their list of reservations, as Golf Now had NOT transitted that. So I may not use Golf Now to make reservations any longer, as this is the second time this has happened to my group.

Golf in the time of Covid

I've played here multiple times and like it; it's a good location, good price, good course. But for whatever reason, Costa Mesa won't allow them to rent either drive or push carts, so we had to carry 18 holes. And the mid-course snack bar was closed. Why? We didn't get a discount, but they save money on amenities. Doesn't seem right. So make sure you bring a snack! Even the water fountains are blocked off...

Covid-19 Review

This was a good day out during the transition from lockdown to open courses. The course did a good job of allowing golf while taking precautions. We had to walk all 18 holes b/c they ran out of push carts, so reserve one if you don't want to carry - but within a couple days they may have drive carts back.
We got a small bucket of balls to hit on the range, and they did sell some limited sandwichs and ice cold beer and drinks. No ball washers, no sand trap rakes, no touching of flags, no water coolers (could have used that!) but otherwise it was a great day of golf!
