Lakewood Shores Resort - The Gailes Course
Played On 05/17/2021Sad demise
Sorely disappointed after hearing all the hype. Realize its early in the year, but relatively speaking, conditioning was average at best. Great layout, and you can sense at one time this was a premier destination. Amenities were non existent for a Championship style venue. No bag drop, Carts are old with no windscreen or GPS, Cart paths are mostly dusty dirt trails. bridges, stairs and tee markers ( where the exist) are in major states of disrepair. Starter shack has broken windows and looks as it hasn't been used in years. and the same goes for the snack hut in the middle of the course between 9 and 10. Clubhouse is extremely dated, and offered little in the way of merchandise. Snack bar was a joke. Links style course with average to above average layout. Generous landing areas in fairways and large greens (except #12) that didn't have crazy hard to read breaks. Course condition when you compare it to the rest of the property, was above average, especially considering the time of the year. On a positive note, you can't beat the value! Overnight stay and two rounds, 80 bucks. (I guess you get what you pay for) Wish I would have had the opportunity to play in its prime. Sad to see these once great destinations spiraling downward. Likely won't return.
Brentwood Golf Club & Banquet Center
Played On 08/16/2019Good value for the money
Play started on the back nine. #10 was a mystery, as the tee marker was missing, and the tee box from the tips appeared to go nowhere? Strangest thing we've seen? Course was in fair to good condition, with some off the greens dying off in spots. Interesting layout. Too short from the gold for the better senior players @ (5,100), and the whites were a bit long @ (6000+). Very playable, and easy to score well. The woman in the clubhouse was not very pleasant to deal with, even though she did get us out early. Pace of play was fantastic. Twosome ahead we saw for one hole, and not again. Our foursome finished in just under 4 hours. All in all a decent course for a golf now price of 35 bucks. If we lived in the area, we might play again, but likely won't make the 90 minute drive back. 3 and half star rating.
Briar Ridge Golf & Country Club
Played On 07/24/2019Older well kept course
Course is older, but has a lot of character. Front nine offers tighter landing areas, in a wooded setting, whereas the back is more open and forgiving. Great value. Last 4 or 5 holes was pretty slow, as we waited on the foursome ahead of us on every shot, and they weren't about to ley us play though. :-(. Glad we played it, but likely wont make the 45 minute trip back again.
