Great deal!

Got a hot deal on golfnow for only $33. It came with a cart but I preferred to walk. I got paired with three other singles at 11 AM. Pace of play was good. The course was in pretty good condition, although the greens were much softer than usual, probably due to the extreme heat lately and making sure the greens don't die. The course got windier as the day progressed and it was plenty hot by the end (95 degrees!). It's a good course to walk, mostly flat. There aren't too many hazards or forced carries, but the wind and pin positions can make for a tricky day.

Thank you for your review of Coyote Creek Golf Club, Jonathan! We're glad you were able to come out an play, even if the wind made your round a little more of a challenge! We hope to see you back out again soon!

Always a treat to play here

Played on a Monday just after a wet weekend, so the course was pretty soggy in certain parts. The weather itself was great, around 60 degrees. Due to the recent rains, the greens were bumpy and really slow. I played with a member and he was also having trouble adjusting to how slow putts were. The course is really fun to play, despite the difficulty. There aren't many blind shots. The trick is dealing with the elevation changes and knowing where to place the ball. The greens are massive and undulating - leave yourself in the wrong spot and you'll pay the price! There are lots of slope on the fairways, too, so that will test your ability to hit balls above and below your feet. Given the hot deal and coupon, I was able to play for much lower than the rack rate. Otherwise, it's too pricey for me to play regularly.

Punishing target golf

Pretty views as this course is located up in the hills with sweeping views of San Jose. The course winds through a residential community and has huge elevation changes. It is target golf at its most frustrating. If you can accept that, then you might have a somewhat enjoyable round. If playing for the first time, hope that your playing partners aren't as there are several places where your landing spot is blind. Fairways tend to be narrow and there isn't always a lot of rough. Get ready to lose balls even with shots that aren't terrible. The bunkers are unfortunately not well maintained and are pretty hard. The greens are decently quick and roll well for the vast majority of the time. They are severely undulating, however, so landing on the wrong tier above the hole can make lag putting nearly impossible given the hole locations. The course's reputation precedes itself, so it's not very crowded. Other local courses (Cinnabar, Coyote Creek) are more fun and in better condition. Still, I only paid $29 for my round, hence the 4 stars.

Good value

Course is hit or miss, depending on the state of the greens. With no rain recently, the course is playing fast. Windy conditions really increase the difficulty, which I enjoyed. Very surprised to not see it too slow or crowded on a Sunday afternoon.

Great value, but course has seen better days

Over the last few years, Hiddenbrooke has seen cheaper and cheaper green fees. I paid only $60 for a Saturday morning tee time. Unfortunately, the course conditioning has been better. Greens are a little shaggier than I remember but still challenging as there are a good bit of undulation to them. The course winds through a residential community, which I don't love but several holes are pretty nice with a good look at the surrounding hills. Most of the fairways are wide enough to not give you claustrophia, but it's important to know what your tendencies are so that you don't drive into a water hazard or OB. Most holes have one side OB.

Well worth the greens fee

Had an amazing deal from golfnow - $30! Greens were fantastic, rolling well and fairly quick. Tee boxes and fairways were in average condition. Bunkers were a bit inconsistent - some had lots of sand and others barely any at all. Weather was fantastic. Pace of play was very sluggish as there was a foursome walking two groups ahead. Once I jumped in front, I zipped through super quick.

fantastic greens and scenery

Paired with two locals, who said that this used to be a private club until Hurricane Sandy flooded the entire course. Now open to the public, it's worth playing for the really fast and true greens that never break as much as you think. The holes along the ocean are awesome and breathtaking. Unfortunately, a lot of work could be done on the rest of the course. Fairways are average. Cart paths are wrecked and feel like you're off roading.

Did not disappoint!

Great course and an outstanding value with the GolfNow hot deal. Difficulty is medium to high, depending on whether you can keep it in play. A wayward driver will put things in the woods with little chance to play a recovery shot, if you can even find the ball. Greens are receptive but tiered and pretty fast, so stay below the hole! Good variety of long and short holes. 18th hole is quite a sight and very disconcerting to the eye from the tee box, but the landing area is actually quite generous!

Great course, great deal!

Played on a beautiful August weekday. Course was not too crowded. Staff extremely nice and helpful. NCGA discount made the course a bargain given the conditions. Very scenic, lots of elevation changes. Good mix of long and short holes. Course is challenging but target golf this is not Green speeds more than manageable.

Nice, but overpriced

Played on a beautiful summer weekday. Course was not busy at all. Staff was very accomodating and nice. Course was extremely well maintained but was not itself very difficult. Lines are very straightforward off the tee. Fairways very generous and flat for the most part. Green not too undulating. They are very receptive and roll true.

Not its best day but an absolute steal!

The greens weren't as smooth or fast as they normally are but the course was in overall decent condition. It's a difficult course with lots of forced carries and deep bunkers but scenic and fun. I only paid $25 though, so that's an automatic win.

another great round

Cinnabar consistently provides a great value and a great experience. Course is challenging but fair, i.e not target golf. You can recover from a less than stellar shot most times. Green are large with undulations and are rolled nicely with good speed. I was paired with a husband/wife pair and it was a great time.

Very challenging but good test of golf!

Played at 3 PM on a Monday for $40, including cart. That alone qualifies as a great deal for the type of course it is. Course is well maintained, although the bunkers leave much to be desired - very dry packed sand. I suspect they have to really drown them in the mornings or else the wind will just blow it out in the afternoons. Speaking of which, the wind was howling. The course is pretty wide open and sits right in a wind tunnel but this day was stronger than usual. It made for tricky club choices, sometimes clubbing up or down by as much as three clubs. For example, I hit one drive 320+ going downwind/downhill, then going the other way into the wind, only 220. If you're having issues with your ball-striking, prepare for a long and frustrating day. Fairways and greens were well-kept. Putts were fairly quick and rolling true. I did have some issue with putting due to the wind. The ball would oscillate and I had some trouble getting settled with the wind affecting my balance at times. All in all, I had a great time testing my skills, but the casual golfer might want to play a less windy course or at least expect to have a more frustrating time than usual.

Spectacular scenery, extremely challenging course

Played for $55 at noon, which is a significant discount from their usual green fees. I like how they will allow singles to book online. Course was a little wet from the recent rains, so therefore cart path only, but wasn't very soggy at all. The greens themselves were soft but very fast. They were large and had multiple tiers and undulations - extremely challenging! Fairways on the most part are fairly wide but hit off line and you'll find water or the side of a tree-covered hill. I hadn't played in several weeks and my driver was way off, so hasta la vista to 6 balls that day. It's a beautiful course with picture-worthy views on at least half. Many holes have big elevation changes, so don't be fooled by the relatively short distance on the scorecard. The course and slope ratings are high for a reason!

Well kept for a muni and very affordable.

Played on 12/22/2012. Area had some rain recently and the wind was blowing fiercely, which helped dry the course out decently. With the wind (15-20 mph), the course is definitely a challenge and forces you to think about how to play the next shot. Some holes became shorter and others became super long. I was greatly surprised with the conditions of the greens. Receptive and rolling very true. Faster than I expected, given the recent rains. People were scared off by the weather forecast, so it was just me and a buddy taking our sweet time that day. The course is advertised as links style, which is true in that there are very few trees but you really can't roll putts from off the green like on true links courses. The nice thing is that you can hit pretty far off line and still be able to play a recovery shot.
Golfnow prepaid tee time was a huge deal - only $33 per person including cart loaded with GPS!

Wonderful course!

Played on a thursday. The day prior, it literally stormed and the course was soft, but not muddy. Greens were still rolling true. Big kudos for how well it drains. Truly fantastic to be able to play on this challenging but fair course. You can hit it pretty offline and still have a reasonable recovery shot and not lose balls. Regular green fees were $100 and they were running a weekday special for $69 but I got a spectacular deal via golf now : $40 with cart! Needless to say, would come back in a heartbeat. Too bad I don't live closer.
