Still champion of all courses I’ve played

I try to play this track twice a year. Once in the spring then fall. I have reviewed this course before and nothing has changed! It’s BEAUTIFUL! I can’t speak enough about his course! Staff is always super chill and friendly. Course is in great shape! Some things that has changed is they have gotten new carts with wind shields and the grass in some areas that grows tall was cut down. For $40(with hot deal)it’s a super deal!
Now...if you are new to golf this course will warm your eyes and heart with the amazing views of nature. But, your golf ball inventory may be shortened dramatically. It rewards great play, but will bring you to your knees if you’re off.

GO PLAY THIS COURSE!!

Enjoyed it!

Okay here we go. There’s a lot to know about the course. I was really lucky that the rain stopped as soon as I got there. I usually walk and it’s very walkable! Tee boxes were in very good condition. Fairways were okay...there where a few spots that I would consider to be ground under repair. Rough was really nice and longer than most courses I’ve played here in Minnesota so that was nice! Greens were pretty fast, but slightly inconsistent. There were a few downhill pits that didn’t move as fast as they should have. Some greens had dead spots on them too. Overall though greens are nice!
Layout was great and walking with my $10 off was only $15!! I’d pay that all day long at this course!! If I were to pay full price with cart I’d pay about $35 no more. One thing to know is that you will need bug spray. It was 50 degrees but a humid one. There were little knats everywhere. Definitely worth trying this course!

Basic municipal feel of a course

My first round of the season! Emerald is a very plain Jane kind of a course. Course conditions were average for the time of year. Greens were a little slow but very consistent. Par 3 tee boxes are under construction currently.

Not a bad little track! I paid 24 with one of my $10 off codes so 24 for walking didn’t seem bad. I wouldn’t pay more than $30.

Not bad, but not great.

I was excited to play a course a little farther away then I’m used to. Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed.
The gentleman in the pro shop was super nice and welcoming! There was a long wait in the snack bar and there was a guy sitting with 3 others and didn’t have a mask on. I don’t care, but it was blatantly posted everywhere that you had to have a mask.
I played the lowlands course and the first hole has an amazing view. Unfortunately the fairways were very blotchy and the greens were incredibly slow. So much I used a driver on one of the up hill puts. The tees were pretty nice though.
The thing that bothered me the most is that I had no one behind me and the front nine flowed, but on the back a random twosome was on the cart path going to ten and almost cut in front of me. They definitely were not starting there back nine. They had just got there. I hate it when pro shops randomly put people whatever 9 they please. I felt rushed after that and the back played slow.
I payed $32 on a hot deal which I can’t complain to much. But, I would not pay full when I can play Zumbrota for $20 on a hot deal and is less crowded and the greens are fast and true. Beware.

Buyer beware!

Long story short, as Golfnow would post my last comment, $61 was way to much to pay! Starter was not available as he was watching golf on tv in the pro shop. Course in good condition, many blind shots so bring extra balls.
St. Croix was almost half the price in hot deals and is WAAAAAAY more worth the price! Don’t waste your time and money at Heritage!

Not worth the money

I was excited to play this course as it was $50 so my expectations were high. Don’t waste your time or money. The pro shop charged me $11 more which I don’t understand. The starter was in and out watching TV in the pro shop. I asked the desk if I could join one of the twosomes and he said they were full which was a lie. The app showed many openings where I could have joined a twosome and there were twosomes all around the 3 they paired me with.
The greens where good and rolled true fairways and tees were good too. But there are way to many blind shots. For that price you’d think they’d have GPS on there carts. Or at least pictures on the scorecard....nope.
In conclusion it’s a 35-40 dollar course. Definitely not worth the price I paid!

For the right price it’s worth it.

I have worked at the cat courses, but regrettably never did play Leopards Chase. I was excited to see how it compares to the others as I’ve played them all several times. Let’s get to the basics...cart attendant was super cool, but as does happen with most starters, he had a bit of an attitude. Granted we were late, but I looked at the tee sheets and they were dead so I wish staters would just relax a bit!! During COVID and in this economy every business dollar is precious.
Playing some of the other cat courses I was worried as the conditions of the others are really really bad!! Leopards Chase is better, but still has low standards. Many bald spots in the rough and greens. Many fairways have weeds growing out of them. Green were bent grass, but that’s only good in the winter in the south. So the grass was really long and greens SUPER slow! Layout was really nice, but was shadowed out by sub par course conditions.
Tigers Eye used to be one of the best public courses on the grand strand. I played it and it was really in rough shape! Leopards Chase does measure up to it though...hence the title “for the right price”. Leopards Chase is a $45 course all day long and I wouldn’t pay a dollar more! So for $71 as high as I’ve seen PLEASE save your money!!!! There are many other strand courses that are worth the same or more! If you can get it for $45 then worth the play of you haven’t played it.

The cats no longer roar....

While living in the area for about 20 years all the cat courses were a real pleasure to play and work as I was former staff and can vouch.
I have read many reviews and have seen very bad reviews and was a bit put back at how bad they are....the people have spoken and the cars aren’t roaring anymore unfortunately.
I am visiting family and paid through an online local company and for some reason it didn’t go through to the pro shops tee sheet. The gentleman at the front was kind of a tool when I didn’t show on the tee sheet. I had showed through my bank app that they had charged me. Finally he just kept my card until someone from the booking company could vouch for me later which was done. The worst part is the attitude of the pro shop about me going out as a single. I mentioned that as a single I just wanted to relax a play at an easy pace. He abruptly said and I quote “we don’t like singles early for the reason of the maintanence crew”. In these times I would think they would like the extra money???? He went on to say “well you can’t play in 2:30-3:30 hours”......in the end I saw no maintanance men and played in under 3 hours. It’s a shame the beginning of my round was slightly ruined by an idiot who didn’t know what he’s talking about.
Things that haven’t changed since I played lions paw is the sheer layout and character of the course. Truly amazing!! That’s why I played! Unfortunately....I know why I didn’t see maintenance....the course is complete trash!!!! Tees and fairways are really long and different types of grass growing. Greens are bumpy, blotchy, and slow!! Knowing this course for when I was staff this made me very sad as this is a thinking mans course with awesome charm. It now has been ruined by terrible maintenance!!
This course is unfortunately brought down to your classic $20 municipal course level, and that would be putting down municipal courses slightly. There’s a reason there are tons of times open at all the cat courses. They are in terrible shape and have awful service. 10-15 years ago it was an worth the trip to play any of the cat courses! I remember as staff we could never get out on tigers eye because it was always fully booked. It rivaled Caledonia, which is the best public course on the strand. Now I would stop at Eastport to play.
Stay away from the cats!! Their courses bite!!!

A must play!!!!

Being from Myrtle Beach, golf central, I have played many different types of golf courses. I have played courses in North Carolina, Florida, New York, Connecticut, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. I have never played a course quite like this! First, I have to start with the man in the pro shop. Feel bad I forgot his name, but he was super friendly and told me what to look out for on the course. He did say it is a very challenging course. He was correct! I normally shoot in between 92-105. So I am not a really good player, but have been around golf for a long time and this is a playable course for all!! If you are a true beginner I would probably wait on this one. I felt challenged because of the severe slopes and elevation changes. I don’t practice much of that because I am normally on very flat surfaces. You will feel like you are almost playing a round in West Virginia...it’s that steep!! Needless to say I enjoyed every shot!!! The greens where fast and pure! The pace of play was perfect! The GPS on carts was perfect for blind shots. The only thing I was scared of is the very steep downhill rides in the cart. You’ll learn it quick on the first hole. You have to be careful while driving.
I’ve seen the reviews about it being gimmicky and just have to disagree. It’s a the most creative and beautiful landscape I’ve ever seen!!! Love it so much I’m playing again later in the week.

Not bad for the price.

The course sneaks up on you quickly from the road. Not a lot of signage. I got the hot deal to play for $35 plus cart which was a good deal for the course. The course was in okay condition for the price. They prepared everything well in regards to COVID-19 protocols. I understand there wouldn’t be starters because of the quarantine order in place, but the pace of play was ridiculously slow!! Granted I was a single playing alone, but it was painfully bad....not the courses fault. One thing the course should have is a porta potty on each nine. Now where to go to the bathroom out on the course.
I wouldn’t pay more than $35 to play it again.

Hello, thank you for reviewing the course. We would like to apologize for the delay of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We work hard to accommodate everyone who visits our course and to best control pace allowing everyone to finish in a reasonable amount of time. We will continue to look for ways to improve, and will use your comments as guidance for improvement. Thank you for playing Stillwater Oaks Golf Course. We hope to see you again soon.

Good price basic course

This was my first round of the year and only 3rd course I’ve played since moving from Myrtle Beach, SC. This course has a very basic layout, but was in really good condition for the price! Greens rolled great! They did a great job following social distancing guidelines. I would play again!

For $27 hot deal sure.

I played the Lowlands course previously and it was okay. Definitely not a $40 course! For $27 I was lucky to play the highlands. Over it was an okay experience. You definitely need a cart because you have to drive a very long way in between tees. Tees were good, fairways were average at best, but greens were good. I got behind 2 twosomes that were taking there sweet time so that was a drag.
There are a few holes that are really amazing and eye appealing!! But the 17th hole kind of disappointed me. It’s a 171 par 3 straight down hill which is amazing...but, the tee box is AstroTurf...come on! Can we not grow grass???? I came from Apple Valley so the trek and price was worth it kinda. If you’re paying $30-40 to play this probably isn’t it.
