Review Again

Not sure why Golf Now wants a second review from me. Maybe it's because I can't load the app on my I-phone anymore and used my wife's phone for the reservation. Don't miss an opportunity to play this course. Two things to add.
1. The entrance is on Perdido Key Drive. Google leads you to a gated entrance with a nice view of the course but this is not the clubhouse entrance.
2. The GPS fails on a couple of holes since the tee is close to the previous green. Simply select the new hole and then yardage is correct.

Best late season (November) greens

Paspalum grass throughout and still alive. Greens are immaculate. This course is tight with balls running off fairways and sides of greens. The native flora has been cut on the fairway edges but balls are not easily found. Expect to loose a few, but the area is so beautiful it doesn’t matter. I’m used to playing on bent grass where a shot short of the green might get a bounce and be on. Know your carry distance because a ball hit short will stay short.

Called Low Country for good reason

February is off season and the conditions were also off. Invasive grass grows, dormant not so much. Greens should be mowed everyday to minimize the high bumps from the growing invasive. Area received rain a couple of days prior closing the back nine (cart path only). I haves snow in my yard back home, so as somebody said anything is better than nothing..

Early season

Conditions much better than Florida, South Carolina and season started two weeks ago. Travel destinations for golf are over priced for the sub par conditions, just so northerners can play. Of course the green fee will rise as our local season progresses here in Wisconsin, so use the app to search out deals.

November Golf in Wisconsin!

Season ending round with temperature in the 70s. Conditions were great. Leaves blown off fairways and greens. Grass has grown back in the aeration plugs. Will play here again when the course reopens in April.

Way too much fun

This course was developed by our first golf legend, a two time US Open Champion. One can only think that TC Chen was in his mind as the course is littered with deep bunkers. It’s location is in Wisconsin Dells and part of a serious 27 hole layout. But 12 North is only a wedge to each hole, where your landing area is only a couple of feet. Where else can you aim forty feet left to play the role and end up by the pin. If you have played Tiger Woods PopStroke mini-golf then you will have some idea of this par 3 on steroids with real grass. This is where old guys can be kids again. I guess women and kids can play here too. My bad.

Early Season no crowds

Special thank you to four guys on the first tee, as they let let my wife and I play ahead. Course is now in great shape and with the jump start we finished in three hours. Tourist season is soon upon us and speed golf will be behind us.

Spring Conditions (what happened to global warming)

Senior Tour will play here in a couple of months, Big Ten Tournament sooner. Greens aerated in October still are not sanded smooth. Putting on a surface where some aeration holes are filled and others are not is really not acceptable. It’s really not about my experience because the course needs the grass to grow now, so big events can be held. I’ve played here many times over the years and I know conditions will improve as summer approaches. Today the play should have been free. Totally substandard for early season.

Early season un-repaired ball marks

I’ve played this course over a hundred times in the last 50 some years. Value with GolfNow in April is unbelievable. This is a resort course for out of state players. In season price is too high for regulars. Today some yahoo left un-repaired divots on many greens. I follow the fix yours and a couple of others philosophy. Today, mine were barely noticeable. At the turn, I mentioned this to the attendant. After the round I showed a photo from the back nine that looked like the person stepped on the ball. Who does this, especially in early season?

Sunday pace of play was fine. The greens are flat but immaculate. Stempmeter posted said 11. Didn’t see the famous alligator but there are others. What others have said is true, Golf Now two- somes must be paired. After time on the range and the putting green we got the flow. Our tee time came so we approached the tee. We hit after the group the three-some in front approached the green. Then the ranger appeared as we walked off the first green. The irony is that I talked to him on the putting green. He was not the started at this time. Fifteen minutes later in his new role as ranger he told us of our transgressions. We smiled as we waited for the single to finish the hole. Still had fun, course is beautiful with no houses to be seen in any direction.

Gated Community vs Golf Now

They try to be nice, but you are Golf Now. OMG,, first hole open, but you need to wait for the other Golf Now twosome to show up. Guys please be prompt to your tee time. OK, the two of us are off. Nice course, with green grass (December),, greens in good shape, but some better than others. Dense housing on every hole, with tees close enough to be invited for coffee. For a gated community, the course plays well with challenge. Next time we’ll try Sunday, maybe get a beer offer.

October Golf in Wisconsin

Course was crowded and the pace slow. This was mid-week afternoon tee time. Don’t people have to work anymore? Oh yah, good courses are always popular.

Day after big course event

Pin placements were on ridges and close to sides.
Yesterday’s event must have been brutal. Greens not yet mowed today but still managed to put off the surface a couple of times, and approach shots hit to the pin rolled off. Fun, heck yes.

Wisconsin Golf in March!

Fairways and tee boxes mowed. Greens may have been mowed once a few days ago, but will take several warm days to recover from late season aeration. Very few golfers taking advantage of the early season rates which increase weekly until regular season arrives. Just playing golf in March in Wisconsin is a treat. The resort course will be immaculate but expensive during tourist season.

This is golf

Saturday tee time, rain forecasted. We had the course to ourselves. So a couple of holes with wet grips the ball found the outside boundaries. It just didn’t matter because the course is so beautiful. If the greens had been rolled four putting would have been common. Toughest course I have played in 50 years!

Missed Out

Guess Florida needed rain, and it came down in buckets. So a course with water bordering most holes needs extra time to drain, duh. We showed up one hour early with blue sky approaching, pleading to no avail. Yes it did rain again later in the day. Good call by management. Yes, I gave the course the highest rating without hitting one shot. A mature golfer can judge by looking at the setup. Must make the journey back north where all courses are closed and under snow knowing that I missed out playing this course.

Don't use Golf Now to book

Can't believe that the course and Golf Now are not seamlessly connected. Showed pro shop the conformation email from Golf Now, but took the attendant a few minutes to find it in there computer. The tee time starter's ticket given to our group was a half later than the confirmation. At the starter's table seven other groups had our original tee time. Customer tempers flared. The starter was confrontational. Needless to say the squeaky wheels (and you know who you are) moved to the front. This was no way to start a round of golf. As vacationers we researched our courses carefully. This was a last minute fill-in and a big fat lesson learned. Sure, we left the cold and snow of our home turf to get a jump start on spring golf and therefore thought any course would do, but don't be fooled, choose wisely.

May 2013 Greens too slow

Played two times in 2012 and really enjoyed the course. However in May of 2013 pace of the greens were much slower. Our group could not adjust during the round even though we all noted it on the practice green.
