Championship at Colony West Country Club
Played On 07/21/2020Unfortunate
I actually hate to report this because for many years Colony West was my favorite course. After Hurricane Andrew in the early 90's, the course lost a lot of its trees which were never replaced. The course changed hands and the care of the course continued to deteriorate. Recently, it has changed hands again. A new hotel, club house and cart garage are under construction. The new management team is Billy Casper Golf. The course boasts new greens and new sand in all greenside bunkers. So, after several years, I thought maybe it's coming back to the pristine course that it used to be. I couldn't be more wrong. With the exception of the 1st and 18th holes, there was no grass on the tee boxes. The greens were horrendous. They were recently punched, but they were unplayable. Extremely slow and on some putts of distance, where extra pace was required, the ball literally bounced up to an inch and a half off the ground. In many cases, it was better to be in the rough than on the fairway because of the lack of grass. Around the greens there was an abundance of sand (not bunkers) where there should have been grass.
Again, I was really excited to play a course that I considered to be the best course in south Florida. It's really unfortunate how it has declined. I truly hope the new management can turn this around, but so far I see no indication of that.

The course in in great shape from tee to green. However, the sand traps have not been maintained. There is grass growing in the traps as well as plenty of rocks and pebbles. Aside from the traps, it was a very enjoyable round. Threesome finished in 3:30 taking our time because there was only one other group on the course.
Harmony Golf Preserve

Course conditions from tee to green were very good. However, if you strayed from the fairway, there were some bad spots. Large landing areas in the fairways, but strategic bunkering and doglegs make the fairways appear narrower. Greens were quick and true.
The staff was extremely friendly from check-in to the 19th hole.
Only complaint, tee settings went from 7,400 for the back tees, 7,000 yards from the blues to a huge drop off for the white tees of 6,400. There should be something in the range of 6,600 to 6,800.
Would definitely play again.
