The Trails of Frisco Golf Club
Played On 03/27/2020Mediocre overall
Played after a big rain but I can tell that’s not the reason that the course was in such rough shape. Tight lies in fairways, bunkers unplayable, and greens recently punched. Course layout only allows for 3-4 driver shots off tee, which I usually like, but not this time.
Riverside Golf Course
Played On 01/05/2020It is what it is
I play Riverside frequently because it’s inexpensive but it’s the cheapest option in Austin for a reason. Pretty short, tight lies in fairways, and bald greens make for sub-par conditions but it’s still a fun time as you can score fairly easily out there. Also, BYOB is a big plus.
Grey Rock Golf Club
Played On 04/11/2019Like the course but c'mon
I'd held off on playing at Grey Rock for a while because I heard it wasn't worth the increase in price v. the other munis (Kizer/Clay/Mo Willy) but I finally made it out for the first time a couple weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised/impressed with the quality of the course, practice facilities, etc. Now for the 'but' ... I loved playing the course the first time BUT I went and played last night, paid ~$40 for a 9 hole round, and at no point in time did anyone mention that they had punched/sanded the greens to the point that I was essentially putting on a shuffleboard surface. I've never complained about course conditions before, but this is where I draw the line in terms of course management etiquette. I get that it's a necessary thing to do, but you better either adjust your price accordingly or AT MINIMUM tell people! Also, if you have to hit off the mats on the range, you might as well hit off concrete. The grass is great on the range but the mats are worse than other courses. All in all, if you're planning on playing, just call ahead and confirm the course isn't going to throw you a curveball.
Why are you giving this 3 stars with 3 greens being as bad as they are?
