Red/White at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club
Played On 05/08/2017Best Course, Value Around
Shenandoah Valley is well laid out, maintained with the fervor of a club anticipating a tour event visit, and affordable to golfers of every stripe. Staff is friendly, the refreshment carts go around daily until around 3pm, and COLD water coolers are found regularly at 4-hole intervals.
If I were forced to find a criticism, it would have to be that the nines are rather short, and that their carts don't yet have GPS integration. Despite the shortness however, there are several holes whose tee-shots require a good measure of precision, and present genuine difficulty.
I really can't say enough good things about the courses, facilities and staff at Shenandoah Valley, it's very simply a first-rate golf experience at a cost short of commensurate to the value obtained. Golf HERE! You won't be disappointed.
Maplehurst Country Club
Played On 05/07/2017Pinnacle of Neglect
Unfortunately, despite the maturity and quality layout/design, this course has clearly been completely neglected for several, if not many years. Because of the threatening weather conditions, we had the course almost entirely to ourselves, and the pace was obviously great. The only decent aspect of this course was the condition of the greens. The tee boxes, fairways, hazards and rough were all completely unkempt and clearly hadn't been touched in eons. The tee boxes were like uneven rough, with grass length varying anywhere from 0-6" and were all extremely lumpy, making it unduly difficult to even tee the ball up with any consistency. It was disheartening to see a course with such potential and evidence that it was a beautiful course in some bygone era, but now is only a decaying ghost of its former self. Unless the owners make some hard-core changes and hire an army to get out there and clean up, shape up, and give the course a complete over-haul, we strongly urge golfers of all skill levels to give this course a wide berth for the foreseeable future. We were comforted only by the fact that we used Golf Now to pay less than $20 each with a cart ( it was cart-path only because of the wet conditions from previous day's rain). Go elsewhere!
