It Needs Serious Help

Unfortunately in SoCal you absolutely get what you pay for, and Hidden Valley is a true $50 round, you’re going to have to spend $80-$150+ to find quality golf out here, just the way it is. This course has the potential to be one of the coolest courses in all of California with its extremely unique layout, but the course continues to not be properly cared for. The layout already naturally causes a backup with its long drives to certain holes, blind tee shots, and drivable par 4’s, however, with no real Marshall enforcing the play, the pace of play is horrific. You’re guaranteed a 5+ hour round on this course even on a weekday, and God help you if you’re playing on a weekend. Kikuyu grass takes over much of the rough and large portions around the green making it extremely difficult to judge your chips and pitches. This was the nicest I’ve seen the course in quite sometime and I’d still call it below average overall. The sand in the bunkers is concrete and can hardly be called sand. It’s just a shame this course doesn’t get the love it deserves.

It’s in OK Shape

It’s a fun course with some challenging holes for the average golfer. Course significantly plays tougher with certain pin placements as we saw today. The course is in OK shape, some real rough stretches in the fairways and rough. Many of the bunkers are under construction and or as hard as a rock. Greens are in pretty darn good shape though. For around $60 on a Saturday in California the value is right about on par.

Great Value

Course is in great shape. There’s some dry spots which is to be expected for the desert. Cool design, challenging but not too difficult. A lot of sand, the average golfer is going to spend a lot of time on the beach. We were expecting the starter to be mean after reading previous comments, not the case at all. Everyone was extremely friendly and the starter was a gentleman was very friendly. Would highly recommend.

Fun and Challenging

This course is beautiful with a solid challenge for the casual golfer. There are an abundance of sand traps that make for a day at the beach if you’re not careful. Creative par 3’s are intermixed. There’s enough variety within the course to have you pull every club out of your bag at some point.
