Nice round with views of the sound!

This is a fairly short track, but plays a little longer than the card indicates due to being just 12’ above sea level. Pretty layout on the Albermarle Sound and in fairly good condition with the exception of the sand traps which are in pretty rough shape, standing water and even tadpoles in many. The course itself is pretty forgiving despite a fair bit of water. Fairways are mostly wide and hazard free, but the greens are small, so good aim on approach shots is a must. Once on, they are not too tricky, fairly flat and a little slow.

Great round

The greens have just been punched in the past 2 weeks, so some putts were a little bumpy, but overall the course is in great shape.

Beautiful course!

The Challenge is a very nice course with enough woods to challenge even low handicappers. The greens are in terrific shape and roll nicely. I didn’t see a single bare patch. A big improvement from the last time I played here, a few years ago, when they were still recovering from a rough winter. Fairways are in good shape as well. The only physical drawback to this course is that some of the sand traps are full of mud, not sand, but there was a crew out working on fixing one bunker complex today. Pace of play was good considering how busy courses have been. Got in 18 in just under 4 hours. I will definitely play here again soon.

NOT doing much to keep golfers healthy!

WARNING: This course does NOT have measures in place to limit or prevent the spread of COVID19. The range is still open with no sanitizing of balls, flags are still on the practice putting green, and golfers are still pulling pins on the course. When I asked if the carts had been sanitized, I was greeted with a scowl and got a cursory wipe down of the seat and steering wheel, when I requested that the hand rails be wiped the guy looked at me like I had asked him to lick my shoes. (I sanitized the cart myself with my own Clorox wipes!). Ball washers have not been covered, and the back deck is open for people to sit around tables and have a drink after their round. The only measures I could see that they might have taken is that there were no rakes by the traps, but judging from everything else, someone probably just forgot to put them out this morning.
As for the course itself, I played 18 riding in just over 3 hours, so pace was good, although I did have to wait periodically for the twosome of hackers in front of me, and they for the foursome in front of them. The fairways are starting to green up and in relatively good stay, and the greens are in good shape, although a bit bumpy from having been recently punched. However, the fringe around many of the greens was bare And in some places just hard packed dirt.
I’ve played here in the past and been more impressed. Won’t be back until the pandemic is over. Scary!

Very nice round

Nice course, very enjoyable round. Greens and fairways are in very good shape. A few of the tee boxes could use a bit more grass and water, which is the only reason I didn’t rate Course conditions a 5.

Good value for a Hot Deal on an average course.

The greens they put in last season are coming back nicely after a very wet winter. Fairways are still mostly dormant when other area courses are already greening up. Also, very soggy conditions after just one day of recent rain. Pace of play was about average for a Sunday afternoon. Staff are friendly and for 18 with cart under $20 you can’t beat the value, although I wouldn’t pay full price to drive to this course from Durham.

Enjoyable round, great value

Second time playing this course in 3 months and conditions are much improved since May when the greens were really struggling after a hard winter. Putting surfaces are about 80% filled in and putts are rolling ok on most greens. Still one or two that have some bare spots. Really enjoy the layout and the challenge on this course. It has some unique holes which require good course management and some narrow fairways to up the difficulty level. Staff is friendly and with GolfNow deals it is a good value for the money. Drove from Durham to play and will definitely play here again.

Not bad for the money, but greens need work!

This is an interesting public course with a friendly staff and a nice clubhouse. About half of the greens were severely damaged by winter weather and need a lot of work. I played 18 with cart for $23 on a weekend. It’s a good value for the money and pace of play was very reasonable, probably beacause of all of the recent rain, people stayed away. However despite strong storms the whole week before, course was well drained and Cart rule at 90 degrees. I would play again, but might wait until those greens are fixed.

Greens are in rough shape

This is the worst I've seen Lakeshore in the past 4 years. Greens are bald, bumpy and extremely unpredictable. Most tee boxes were hard and dry and some were weed choked. The fairways were in better shape than the greens but not by much. Played like winter conditions in late August. Won't be back until they grow some grass!
