Better choices elsewhere!

This is the 6th different course I've played in the Sun City/Sun City West area in the last 5 weeks, and one thing is painfully obvious: when the hot weather arrives and the snowbirds leave, many courses stop taking care of their grounds. In this case, the tee boxes were spotty with grass; the fairways had many dry and hardpan areas; the traps appeared filled with river sand that was so hard you could putt out of them; and the greens very fast due to the fact they had little grass and were mostly compacted sand. This is another case of other courses in the area being a much better value.

Good value

This was the 6th different course I've played in this area in the last month. From the moment I arrived the treatment was great. The course is somewhat dry but generally in good shape. These are the slowest greens I've played but were uniform for all the holes. The layout has some interesting holes. Overall, I would recommend this course as a great value for the money, would play it again, and would recommend it to anyone.

Thank you so much for your review! We're so glad you had a great experience with us! Make sure to come back in the winter months when the greens are more plush!

Better choices elsewhere!

Two lessons learned: First, at any course around the Sun City/Sun City West area, do not let the starter send you off as a single before 9AM. The "regular" groups ahead of you will not let you play through! What could be a 2+ hour round turns into 4 hours.
Second, read the previous reviews. This course is a perfect example. At one time, it probably was a pretty good track with interesting holes. Now, however, the course is in very poor shape, and appears to desperately need an infusion of cash. The fairways are in terrible condition- lots of bare spots and hardpan. The traps are not much better. Only the greens are in acceptable shape. Don't be fooled by the appearance of the hole along Bell Rd.- it's the only one in any kind of good condition.
Pay a few dollars more and you'll get much better playing conditions elsewhere.

Great course- great value!

Having never played this course before, I relied on some of the previously posted reviews. Some were mixed as to pace of play and condition of the course. I found the course to be challenging, particularly the undulating greens. Having said that, it was challenging in ways that a golf course should be. The course was in excellent condition- fairways and greens. Pace of play was good- I finished in about 3-1/2 hours playing as a 3-some. I would recommend this course to anyone who would enjoy a round of golf that includes water and real sand, and good greens.

Don't go here!

This is the 3rd round I've played in the Sun City West area, the other two being Coyote Lakes and Trail Ridge, both of which I would recommend. I wish I could say the same for Hillcrest. At one time this may have been a nice course. Now, it's in dire need of an update. The tee boxes are poorly marked- no yardage signs and some with no numbers, resulting in a first-timer having a difficult time finding his way around- and are in bad shape. The old cart paths have been torn out, leaving anything off the fairway a hard play. Some of the greens badly need repair. Overall, it looks like the result of not enough money coming in. There are many other courses that would be a far better choice to play.

Great course- great value!

I played this course for the first time as part of a foursome. Pace of play was good- we finished right at 4 hours. The course has a number of challenging holes but overall would play fairly had not the wind been blowing. Although only visiting this area for a short time, I will likely play this course again, and would recommend it to anyone. One additional note- the address listed on Golfnow is for Hillcrest, so check the correct address before driving to it.

Short but challenging

While this course is relatively short in yardage, the designers did a lot with what they had. Many of the holes have challenging aspects- traps, greens, etc.
