Hope For The Future

This is the start of the second year of new management for the course. The course had been dormant for several seasons and had not been well cared for from the it's start. You can see the new team has bigger hopes and potential for growth. They've renovated their clubhouse dining room over the winter, added 2 simulators and the greens, although still covered with top dressing from the winter, looked in better shape than the previous ownership ever had them. The bunkers are in need of a serious overhaul with weeds and packed sand covering them. The fairways were never designed properly here and play about as nice as a well taken care of residential lawn. Hopefully the upcoming season will bring some better growth and care for this facility.

Fun Course And No Crowds

I played this on a Hot Deal price during the week. While there were other golfers out, the layout provides plenty of space between holes and you rarely feel like groups are on top of one another. Great elevation changes for IL and a well maintained course. The greens were dry and played real fast but I still able to keep the ball on the green on approach shots. The fairways were kept neat and the rough easily playable. There are 4 sets of tees and open fairways without too many OBs making it a great course for beginners too.

Great Weekend Getaway.

I played this course as a stay and play package with unlimited golf and accommodations. With that in mind it is great value ($99, 2 days unlimited golf and 1 night lodging). The daily greens fees are probably too expensive for this course for just a daily rate. It's real value is in a package deal. The layout is extremely fun and provides a great variety of terrain, elevation change and scenery. The fairways were in good shape and yardages were all very clearly marked and seemed accurate. The greens however were in pretty bad shape. They did not roll smoothly and were very dry. The speed varied greatly throughout the facility and made it very difficult to gauge putting speed. The lodge is very dated and needs some updating, but serve the purpose of providing easy access to the golf courses and ski slopes in winter.

Great terrain in the flatlands

I played this course very early in the year and had some standing water to work around but the rest of the course was in great shape. The variety of terrain and hole layouts is the real appeal of this course. Each approach offers a new challenge with several blind approaches, downhills and uphills as well as great bunker protection without being unplayable.

Great course conditions.

A great course for mixed talent groups. It's long enough to satisfy low handicappers but sports wide fairways, modest bunkers and gentle greens to make it non-frustrating for high handicappers.

Quick Round For Locals

This 18 hole layout has a short back 9 (Par 30) which makes it a great course for locals that need flexibility with their time. You can play 18 in under 4 hours or either of the 9 hole layouts dependant on your allowable time for the day. The fairways are pretty wide open but have plenty of doglegs to keep it from being a mundane layout. There's not much for terrain changes but the greens will offer great challenges to golfers of any level. The course offers reasonable green fees and is easily walkable.

What Park District Courses Should Thrive To Be

Well maintained fairways and greens along with rolling hills make this course a pleasure to be on. The fairways are wide with managable layouts for novice golfers but still long enough to challenge advanced golfers. Large greens make for some long putts but are nice to hit on your approaches! With 4 sets of tees and a playable layout, this is a great course for groups of mixed talent.
