North Palm Beach Country Club
Played On 09/18/2019Worth waiting for
Played the back nine today and immediately looked at booking a tee time for the weekend. This course has gone through a major redo and will be incredible in a few weeks. Fairways are on par with PGA National just up the road. Green are super true and getting faster by the day. Not sure who the designer is but they love their sand traps! Would definitely recommend.
The Neuse Golf Club
Played On 02/22/2015Course Closed and failed to contact
While I am a big fan of this course I was not impressed that although they had allowed me to book at 9pm the night before they took the decision on the day to close the course due to frost. They failed to contact me despite my golf now confirmation clearly showing my telephone number. I drove 25 miles to the course for nothing.....not impressed!
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at North Carolina State University
Played On 09/01/2014One of the best courses in the area
I am a little biased as I am a member at LP. The work that has gone on to renovate the bunkers and tee boxes since May is really beginning to pay off. Not only is it a visually stunning course it is playing really well too.
On the playing front there are a few holes that are suited to the bombers out there but generally it requires thought and shot shaping to score well. It takes a few rounds to get a feel for the undulations in the fairways and knowledge of good positional play. So keep coming back.
Wil-Mar Golf Club
Played On 08/24/2014Fairly price for a fair course
I have played here a number of times primarily due to its proximity to my home. The course is in average condition with some bare patches on fairways but overall not bad. Its better than a muni course but not up there with some of the good semi private courses out there. Always fun to play though with some challenging pin positions and shot shaping required. Have been lucky enough to be paired with great groups in all the times I have gone out. Staff are always friendly and I have been in under 4 hours every round I have played.
Palm Beach National Golf Course
Played On 11/29/2013Never finished the round
At my allotted tee time there were already 3 groups backed up on the 1st tee box.... I tried to get a refund but because I had booked through GN I was unable to. I joined a twosome that were making the turn and played the back nine. We were held up a few times but overall not too bad. On returning to the 1st I tried the front again....the twosome that I joined and I all gave up after three holes....the pace of play was incredibly slow and so frustrating we couldn't take any more. Overall the course wasn't in bad shape but do not expect to play fast here.
West at Grandover Resort
Played On 10/20/2013Fantastic Course, clubhouse a little disappointing
Arrived at the course for a 10:32 tee time on the west course to be told by the pro shop that my booking was for 10:49 on the East Course. According to them golfnow does not sync with their system and the west course was closed. Note to other golfers call to confirm your booking!
As it turned out the east course was great. Course was extremely well maintained with great greens that run true. Course is challenging in places with some long par 4's (even from the whites)
The only disappointment was the clubhouse at the end of the round. For a golf resort we were expecting a little better service and fare. The colony bar which is connected to the pro-shop is apparently not used anymore so you are left with the cafe.
Would definitely come back for the golf but would make plans to eat somewhere else.
Wildwood Green Golf Course
Played On 10/3/2013Very poor condition
I had reviewed the course layout and photos online and was really looking forward to 9 holes after work. I played the back nine as there was a high school girls outing on the front. Sadly I have to report the greens are in awful condition, they had not seen a mower or roller in a very long time. Couple with that the fact that most if not all the greens had a huge bare patches on them where there was simply no grass at all.
The fairways do not score much higher either. Most have bare patches where you find yourself hitting off of compacted soil out in the middle of fairway.
I had high hopes for this course from their website, but believe me it needs some serious TLC.
Lochmere Golf Club
Played On 11/10/2012Greens and course is in good shape. Scheduling is awful!
Great little course in good condition. Some of the black tee boxes could do with the some TLC.
The downside to this course is that the administrattion seems to be more concerned with making money and squeezing as many golfers in as possible that it causes huge delays with three and four groups backing up out on the course. They schedule fours every 8 mins which is a recipe for disaster and in our case meant that we missed our tee time by almost 40 mins. We only managed 9 holes in almost three hours...crazy!
if you are looking to get around in a reasonable time do not play this course. If you have all day....go for it!
