The Meadows
Played On 06/03/2022Great course. Slow greens.
Wonderful course it’s one of my favorites and the greens are usually pretty fast but not that day. It was early when we played so the grass hadn’t grown to slow the ball. Usually they run 10-11 on a Stimpmeter but that day it was probably around a 7. Other than that it was fun and love the course. Don’t bring any cash as it’s a cash free course everywhere even in the bar area.
Deer Run Golf Course
Played On 08/15/2015Nice Country course.
Nice country course at a great price. Fairways and greens were in great condition and the greens are on the quick side which I really like. This is my second time at this course this year. At this price I will be back again. Great value for the money. Depending on the tee's that you use the course will play from 5700 yards to 7000 yards.
Silver Lake Country Club
Played On 07/14/2015Country Club gone public.
Typical private old school course that has gone public. Fairways were average at best. Sand traps have dirt. Only saving grace is that the greens were nice and rolled true with good speed plus they had good undulations. Scorecard is misprinted. It shows a big pond on hole 14 but there isn't one. Grounds crew were inconsiderate and should be replaced. On two holes the same guy waited until the middle of our backswings to fire his chainsaw. He was only 100 yards away and watching us. On the 14th hole two ground crew members walked up to the green as we walked off and installed a huge sprinkler that they proceeded to turn on even though the green was waterlogged from the previous nights rain so it clearly wasn't needed. They then pretended to lose control of it and turned it at us and soaked us. We exchanged a few words on that and as we drove away I looked back and saw them laughing. You only get one chance to make a good first impression and this course and its staff missed the mark. I will not be returning to this facility.
East at Gull Lake View Golf Club and Resort
Played On 07/05/20151 of 5 fine courses.
Gull Lake has 5 18 hole courses with a 6th opening next year. This is a wonderful location tucked away in the country. It feels like a Private Country Club but its not. Great clubhouse, lounge and restaurant. Practice range was far above average plus they have 3 large putting greens by the clubhouse. Over all the course was in great condition with the only drawbacks being the large amount of Goose droppings around the ponds and greens. Carry a spare towel to keep your golf ball clean. Plus the ponds were filled with scum type weeds that just gave them a swampy look and smell. Overall though the course was a pleasure to play and I look forward to playing the other 4 courses this year. Next one is Stone Hedge North.
Wallinwood Springs Golf Club
Played On 08/07/2014Nothing to write home about.
Course was in fair condition. Everything was nice and green but fairway grass is longer than expected and the greens were pretty slow. Probably only rolling to about 7-8 on the stimpmeter. If you had a 10 ft putt you had to hit to go 13 ft just to get to the hole. The holes with ponds on them all have geese all over the place making it likely that you will be either walking in goose droppings or hitting your ball from it. Not very enjoyable to see or to smell!! The bunkers are filled with dirt and gravel with no sand found anywhere. If you dont care about your clubs you can try and play out of them otherwise take a drop outside the bunkers. The course also has gas golf carts that are noisey and need to be replaced with electric. About 12 yrs ago this was a beautiful course and could be again but the current owners either dont have the money needed to bring it back or just dont care to. Its a great layout playing along the Grand River and through and around quite a few gravel pit ponds making for a scenic course. Its just that the overall condition of the course is hurting. It feels more like a city owned course and not the great course it once was.
Quail Ridge Golf Club
Played On 04/11/2014Great Greens.
This is one of my favorite courses to play. Its a great layout set among some beautiful scenery. Its a challenging course when the greens are in average condition but last year they really worked on their greens and have continued the job this year. The greens aren't overly firm and will hold your shot but they are extremely fast already and rolling true. They are probably rolling 12-13 on the stimp meter on its only April. Wait till summer when the greens really firm up then this course will be extremely challenging. But even with that Quail Ridge is a must play for all skill levels. One of the best layouts in West Mi.
Thornapple Creek Golf Club
Played On 08/15/2013Very Scenic course.
This was my 4th trip to Thornapple Creek this year, and that says a lot for the course right there. I live in Grandville Mi and have over a dozen courses within 10-15 mins of my house but I drive 45mins to go down there to play. Its one of the most scenic courses that you can play in SW Mi and its always in perfect condition. Fairways and rough are green and lush and the greens are very receptive. Just wish they were faster. The greens look great but are pretty slow. Over all its one of the best courses you can play under $50.00
The Ravines Golf Club
Played On 11/18/2012The course has a couple nice holes.
The course has a couple nice holes but over all its some what of a boring layout. Smallish greens were a let down as well. The course does have some beautiful scenery on the holes that play over and around the deep ravine that bisects the course. Having played the Jack Nicklaus course in Saint Joeseph Mi I wanted to play Arnies course as well. There is no comparison between the two. Jacks course is a true championship masterpiece that is a must play. The Ravines would be a nice course to play if their fee's were half of what they now are. Even though the course leaves a lot to be desired the staff does not. Everyone that I met was extremely friendly and helpful.
Angels Crossing Golf Club
Played On 10/25/2012Very nice course.Great layout, very scenic, large greens but a few needed some attention.Tee boxs could use some attention"grass was to long".
Over all its a very nice course thats just lacking a few details to make it a must play destination.Such as paved cart paths. The dirt paths were very rough and bumpy. It can be a very challenging course for the average golfer but the fairways are wide and forgiving and extreemly well maintaned as are the huge greens. The day we played the wind was blowing a steady 25mph with gusts to 40 which really made for a tough day playing from the Blue tees. I still managed to shoot a 77 though.I look forward to playing the course again next summer under more friendly conditions.I also wish they had a sign on I-31 in Schoolcraft showing where to turn for the course. Mapquest said to turn left on E-W ave but in Schoolcraft that road is called Elviva. We drove 6 miles past and turned around. It still took us another 30mins to find the course. We left an hour early so we would have time to warm up on the putting green and made it to the couse with only 5 mins to spare. So some signs on 31 would be very helpful in locating the course.
I agree with Shaky's comments - very nice track and I would put it in the "must play destination" category. I played it as part of a swing through W Michigan this past summer - and can't wait to get back.
