Suncrest Golf Course
Played On 10/07/2016Information please
When booking a course it would sure help to know that the greens had been recently aerated. This is the type of information that shouldn't come as a surprise when you arrive at the course.
Other than the aerated greens the course needs some TLC as I hit off several bare spots around the greens. The fairways were adequate for the most part.
The Greens of Greenville
Played On 10/8/2013Where is everyone?
We arrived for our 9:15 tee time on a Tuesday morning and other than the guy in the clubhouse we were the only car in the parking lot. We played 9 holes before we saw one other golfer going off number one as we were finishing up the ninth hole. The course was in decent shape with some challenging holes, particularly the par 3's. I would have given it a higher rating if the greens had been a little faster. If they had been rolled and cut lower and they would have been pristine.
Del-Mar Golf Course
Played On 10/1/2013It's a golf course
The greens were decent but could be a lot better if they were rolled to smooth them out and cut lower to speed them up. They accepted shots well. The course design was fairly nondescript with no sand traps and essentially no water in play.
It's not a bad way to spend 3.5-4 hours if you get a good discount from GolfNow but I wouldn't recommend it at full price.
Quicksilver Golf Club
Played On 7/30/2013One of best public courses in the greater Pittsburgh area.
Quicksilver delivers a consistently high level of course condition and staff professionalism. The layout is challenging but fair and the greens putted true. Don't get above the hole on sloping greens or you will pay the price.
My only criticism was that there were work boot footprints in several bunkers in the fairways and around the greens on the back nine the morning we played. I saw a worker go into the bunker on one hole to blow loose grass clippings out of the bunker and then just leave without raking the bunker he had just walked through. I mention this because of course I ended up in a boot print in one of those bunkers.
Conley Resort
Played On 4/26/2013This course is always well maintained
Unfortunately I was a single and got behind several 4-somes who didn't offer to let me play through. That was the downside. The upside was that I used the extra time between holes to take some extra putts on the green and practice some chipping until the group behind me caught up.
Aubrey's Dubbs Dred Golf Course
Played On 9/30/2012You better take advantage of the front nine because the back nine can eat your lunch.
OK so this isn't the greatest course in western PA but it's not the worst either. You can score on the front nine if you put your ball below the pin for an uphill putt. If you start the back nine with a mediocre front nine score you will likely have a long day because the back is much harder than the front.
You can drive the par 4 11th hole but, depending on the pin placement, you may have a test just to par the hole.
With some of the deals that are offered on GolfNow, this course is worth a shot.
Back Eighteen at Black Hawk Golf Course
Played On 7/28/2012Some holes are short for par 4's but overall in good shape
Course was well maintained. Greens putted true and had enough undulations to be tricky in spots. Some of the par 4's were reachable with a good drive. Staff was friendly and accomodating.
