Bear Trace at Harrison Bay State Park
Played On 03/29/2019Good value, but pace kind of slow
The course is a great value and the conditions were what you’d expect for late March (rough and spots in fairways still dormant). The pace of play was a little slow, which was kind of expected with it being 75 degrees and perfect weather on a Friday afternoon. The greens however rolled true and were very quick with many subtle breaks. Overall impressions are incrediblibly positive and will definitely have to return to play it again.
Deer Creek Golf Club
Played On 05/19/2018Good course, but better options nearby
It’s a typical track. Decent layout. Blue/ryegrass everywhere but greens so fairway lies can be iffy. Got a jumper a few times in middle of fairway. Greens little slow but rolled true. Worth a play but there are better ones not too far from deer creek
Club at Jones Creek
Played On 04/26/2018Greens horrible. Skip it
Almost every green had bare spots and were very bumpy. Fairways and rough still mostly dormant. Right now, skip it.
The River Golf Club
Played On 04/24/2018Great layout but still dormant
Was very wet after the huge rainfall day before. Greens rolled true and quick. Would like to see in a few weeks.
Hickory Knob Golf Course
Played On 04/21/2018Still dormant. Greens mediocre still
Great layout but needs at least a couple more weeks. Greens heavily spotted with poa and many looked more like oil and sand than even dormant Bermuda.
If walking is an issue for you, skip this course. There’s a lot of times where the cart paths are a long way from tees and greens. And there are a few points where large slopes must be climbed.
Briar Leaf Golf Club
Played On 06/03/2017Course like concrete
Everything was extremely hard, I'm talking beyond firm. Getting a tee into the ground was a challenge. Greens were very hard, but slow and inconsistent.
South at Michigan City Municipal Golf Course
Played On 05/28/2017Great muni, very good value
Bluegrass fairways and tees. Few fairways in rough shape, but greens very true and good speed. Could have been little quicker.
Blackthorn Golf Club
Played On 05/27/2017Slightly disappointed with LPGA Futures next week
Course tee to green in really great shape, but greens underwhelming. Very slow considering professional event 10 days away. They were true, and most Poa gone, but still slow
Lost Marsh Golf Course
Played On 05/26/2017Quirky. Skip it
Golf course is overpriced. It's a $55 course on the weekends, tops. They get away with charging what they do because of the proximity to Chicago. So many better layouts in Northern Indiana that are much less expensive that LM.
So many courses that if your a long to medium length hitter (250+) off the tee you can't hit driver. A few more that you shouldn't hit even 3-wood. A lot of this is because was built on old landfill. Don't get me wrong, the course condition wise is very good, but the layout is not my favorite. I like LM even less than Aberdeen in Valparaiso, which is a much less expensive track.
Cross Creek Country Club
Played On 03/31/2017Great layout. Will be in good shape in another couple weeks
Played after a bunch of rain, so course was very wet, but casual water wasn't really a problem. Was able to play ball down, but making solid contact was a challenge. Greens were in good shape, but fairways and rough were still largely dormant. Give them another 2 or 3 weeks and I figure that the course will be in amazing shape.
If it's your first time playing, a GPS and yardage book can be a huge help. Like any mountain area course, pay attention to the slope around the greens and general flow of the terrain. I had a few time that green looked like it was uphill, but putt was actually downhill
The Walker Golf Course at Clemson University
Played On 04/21/2016In great shape
The course was in the best shape of all the courses in the upstate we played greens were a little slower, but rolled true.
Cherokee Valley Course and Club
Played On 04/18/2016Good layout, a couple weeks away
Some patches of rough and fairways still dormant, and a good amount of Poa on the greens. Other than that, in great shape for late April. Greens were lightning quick, and you did not want to be putting downhill.
Very much a shot makers course as there are places you do not want to be.
Holes #5 and 15 are gorgeous, although the waterfall on 5 wasn't flowing
Hi "jdbelko" Thank you for the great review! We are so glad to hear that the greens were in tip top shape on this particular day. Don't forget to mark us down on your calendar on your next visit from Chicago.
