Bear Creek Golf Club
Played On 01/29/2015Superfast greens
The course represented reasonable value due to a 14.30 start time via GolfNow. In fact teed off at 1410 in a 3 ball. However, the pace of play was so slow that the round had to abandoned on 17th due darkness at 1810.
It was a typical HH course meandering through trees with a lot of water and good wildlife. Tees and fairways were in good condition. The course was protected by many bunkers and their condition was variable with many having very a thin sand layer.
The greens were incredibly fast and down hill putts almost impossible. Very challenging to a medium to high handicapper.
We arrived back at clubhouse in darkness. There was no one to accept the cart and we only just avoided getting locked in as we went to the bathroom. Saved a tip.
Overall the course was generally overpriced and rather full of itself and did not hold a candle to Old South where I played on Monday
Shannon Greens Golf Club
Played On 01/22/2015Scruffiest course I have ever seen
On the drive in I remarked that the course did not look good, and I was right.
The Tee boxes were in an awful state and the rough and fairways were indistinguishable. The greens were quite fast and many had severe slopes making putting very difficult. However, the greens were not bad, which can't be said of the bunkers which had grass growing out of the sand, what there was of it.
The signature seventh with it's island green was certainly a challenge hole, but lacked any wow impact due to the complete lack of any landscaping, which was a feature of the course.
There were no on course facilities like water fountains or lavatories. The bar/restaurant area was closed up in darkness so I went elsewhere for lunch
Not a good golfing experience.
