Moody Gardens Golf Course
Played On 03/03/2024Hidden Gem
This is a wonderful course hidden off the Beaten path in Galveston, Texas. It's a municipal course that's in incredibly great shape for a muni. The greens roll true and fast. There's water on virtually every hole. And you have to think carefully about course management because of the wind that comes off the ocean and sweeps across the course.
The staff is very friendly and professional. The carts are new also.
We look forward to playing this course again.

Very interesting course with great views. The only weakness is that many of the bunkers are dirt, not sand.
Old South Golf Links
Played On 05/18/2022Challenging course in native TLC
We really like this course, and like the challenge of its design. The only problem is that at least a 3rd of the greens have bare spots that need repair or replacement.
We look forward to coming back in the future when the greens are in tip top condition.
Falconhead Golf Club
Played On 07/04/2021Grange need help
there's a massive building project going on all around Falconheads perimeter. It is changing the character of the golf course. But the big problem is with the greens. They're not as good as many municipal golf courses anymore.
Thank you for the constructive criticism, and sorry we couldn't make it a 5 star experience.
EagleVail Golf Club
Played On 06/30/2020Fun and Challenging Golf Course
We decided to play this course instead of the one at Vail for several reasons. First, the Vail golf course is right on I-70. That's not my idea of fun. Second, it had several temporary greens but was charging $125.
We were pleasantly surprised by this course. It is in great shape and has many challenging holes. Fortunately, we were paired with two locals. You really need local knowledge to have fun.
Will definitely play it again when we are back in the area.
As an added bonus, there were three home that were selling "found" golf balls for 4 for a $1. What a deal.
Ranch Golf Course at Pole Creek Golf Club
Played On 06/28/2020Stunning golf course. Better than advertised.
We played the ranch and ridge courses. Very beautiful, very well maintained and very challenging. Much better golf experience, for example, than Torrey Pines.
Lago Vista Golf Course
Played On 09/02/2019The Worst Golf Course In Central Texas
The City of Lago Vista owns this course . . . and obviously doesn't care about golfers. It is by far the worst course I have played in Central Texas and just about the worst course in the world.
Which is sad, because the layout is quite interesting and would be a challenge . . . if the course was not a broken down dog tract.
Many of the greens, if you can call them that, on the front nine had multiple holes in them, little or no grass, and were the worst greens I have ever seen. It was clear that they were not watering the front nine to the level necessary to maintain the greens, the tee boxes, and the fairways.
The front nine fairways were uneven in their condition, with many parts of the fairway covered with brown, dead grass on top of soil that was a hard as rocks. Many of the tee boxes were so hard that it was almost impossible to stick your tee into the ground.
What makes no sense is that the city of Lago Vista owns the golf course and the golf course is right next to the Lago Vista water treatment plant. So there should be zero problem with the city using its water to water its golf course. But they didn’t.
When Lago Vista owned Highland Lakes, they piped city water across town to water that course. So why not water the course that is right next to your plant?
The back nine was in much better shape, but still had serious issues.
I was embarrassed to have invited two friends to play Lago Vista for the first time.
Not all was bad. The people at the course are wonderful . . . and the Yamaha gas carts are in great shape.
But the golf course is a disaster. It should be should be shut down until they can bring it back to life.
For me, it doesn’t make a difference what they do. We will never, ever play that golf course again as long as I am alive.
Never, ever, ever.
Hi jndtexas. We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We see you rated the course 1-star and are interested in learning what we can do to improve for your next visit. We take single star feedback very serious at our course. You are welcome to comment further or reach out to our team in the golf shop. We always appreciate the feedback. Kissing Tree Golf Club
Played On 09/01/2019Better Than Sun City, But Still a Retirement Community Golf Course
We enjoyed our round at Kissing Tree. It is a very well maintained course with an outstanding practice area. Each of the holes on the front nine have tremendous space and wide fairways. It is a fair course design. Just hard enough so you have to pay attention, but it is really hard to screw up at Kissing Tree and both my wife and I had our lowest scores in years.
It is, however, overpriced given how "moderate" it is. But I get it. They want serious golfers only so the residents are not overwhelmed with a bunch of cheap hackers in their backyard.
I still remember the security gate guards packing semi-automatics. It made me feel safer.
We will be back when we can score a hot deals price.
Pevely Farms Golf Club
Played On 05/19/2019Great Course
We played just after a major rainstorm blew by. The course drained quickly and the greens dried fast also. Lots of fun on this course. Only boring hole is 18.
Would love to play this course again.
Hi, thank you for the five-star review! We are happy to hear that you had a great time out there even though the weather wasn't ideal. Thanks for your feedback, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
Annbriar Golf Course
Played On 05/18/2019Great Course . . . But for the Flying Bugs
We played this course for the first time and loved the layout and challenge. But even thought it was very windy, the flying bugs were unbearable. And if you hit it into a bunker, it was like you were lunch.
We really like this course, but until they get a handle on the flying bugs, we wouldn't play it again. Bugs in your eyes, ears, nose and mouth make playing golf really unpleasant.
Hello, jndtexas. Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the bugs that joined you during your visit. Your feedback about the course is important to us. We are going to escalate your feedback to our team so we can make improvements before your next game. We will continue to work towards an excellent experience by using your comment for guidance. Thank you for playing Annbriar Golf Course, we hope to see you again soon.
Oak Quarry Golf Club
Played On 04/28/2019Amazing Course
We live in Austin, Texas and played this course while on vacation. It is a true gem, with great holes that both surprise and reward you. Not a boring moment. Bring your A game and be prepared to use all of the clubs in your bag.
On the downside, don't hit into the sand. Most of the traps are dirt. And the on course facilities are rundown.
Still, we will play it again.
Mohegan Sun Golf Club
Played On 08/06/2017Challenging Course in Need of TLC
My wife has a tournament at this course in September, so we drove there to get a sense of the course. While it will make a great tournament course, they host so many of them already that the course is not in the best of shape.
The greens need rolling and attention. The fairways have crabgrass in too many places. And far too many of the bunkers have weeds and little evidence of any attention.
The course is literally in the middle of nowhere.
If you don’t live within an hour or so, it’s not worth the drive.
And it you pay more than $70 on Golfnow, you are wasting your money.
Roy Kizer Golf Course
Played On 07/09/2016Great Course; Horrible Greens
I really like Roy Kizer, so I was very disappointed when I last played it. At least 1/3 of the greens were in horrible shape.
Some were almost all dirt. On more than a few chips and putts, the ball jumped sideways because of the "dog track" greens.
And the 16th green was in such bad shape that they cut a new "green" our of the fairway 75 yards short of the "real" green. The 16th is Kizer's iconic hole and now it is ruined.
The greens are so bad that the fairways were in better shape than many of the greens.
I don't know why people work at a golf course if they can't maintain the greens.
Won't play it again until I read that all of the greens have been redone.
STAY AWAY.
Morris Williams Golf Course
Played On 04/23/2016Very good course if you want to spend six hours playing 18 holes.
The City of Austin spent millions of dollars and a year and a half to redo this course. They did a great job.
The problem with this course is that it is too crowded on weekends. As a result, we spent almost 4 hours on the front nine and a total of six hours for 18 holes.
The front desk staff is wonderful, but the marshals are useless. They just drive around in a cart watching what you're doing. But they don't do anything to speed the pace of play.
This is the course that's worth playing on weekdays only.
Harvey Penick Golf Campus
Played On 02/14/2016Worst Greens in the World
I learned to play golf here. I'm a big supporter first tee. This course has a great practice facility and driving range. But the greens are disaster. The fairways ago tracks. This course needs to be shut down completely rebuilt. It will turn people off the golf. And to make things worse, they now allow something called foot golf in the middle of the golf course.
I learned how to play golf here. But I will never come back until it it's completely redeveloped.
Because now, it is an absolute total disaster of a golf course.
Berkshire Valley Golf Course
Played On 07/12/2015Beautiful, Professionally Managed, Challenging but Fair
This is a beautiful course that makes great use of the natural terrain and water to provide a captivating, challenging and in many ways breathtaking golfing experience. It is narrow, has tons of water, the tee boxes and fairways are in great shape, it has impeccable greens that are hard to read . . . and did I say it was beautiful.
This is the first time that we've played this golf course, but it won't be the last. The only weakness of the course is that many of the sand traps have a very thin layer of sand and then its hard pan. But that's it. The greens are challenging but they are fair. The staff in the pro shop, at the starter’s hut and the grill are really friendly.
We are from Austin, Texas and have played golf courses all over the US. This is one of the best public courses that we have ever played . . . including privately owned public courses. It's hard to believe that this is a "county" course, because it is run better than many country clubs.
West Point Golf Course
Played On 07/05/2015Great Course With Almost Unbearable Road Noise on Most Holes
This is a great golf course . . . that we will never play again. It is very well designed with tight fairways, small greens, strategic hazards, and hills and valleys that test your golfing skill. If only it were quite.
Unfortunately, it is right next to the road. Again, and again, and again our golfing was interrupted by motorcyclists revving their engines as they raced by the tee boxes, the fairways and the greens. And when the motorcycles were not around, you couldn't get away from the almost constant sound of cars and trucks whizzing by.
To make matters worse, they've closed down their golf center (they are going to tear it down and replace it#. That means that you can't use their beautiful driving range. Instead, they give you four small hitting nets. No short game practice space #closed#. No putting green practice space #closed#.
What makes this so unacceptable is that their website has gorgeous pictures of their driving range and never tells you that you can't access it. Its like aerating your greens and not telling golfers about it. That's just not what I expect from the USMA.
If you want to give this course a try, play on a week day when the traffic most likely will be lighter. If you do play on a weekend, bring your ear plugs or head phones . . . because you will need them. ;-#
Farmstead Golf & Country Club - Valleyview/Lakeview Course
Played On 06/20/2015Beautiful Course to Work on Your Game
This is not a hard course, Unless you can't hit them straight. Water comes into play on 13 of the holes. And the rough is really tough to hit out of.
As a result, this is a course that will punish you if you lose focus on your game. While it's true that there are parallel fairways that give you a chance to recover from a slice, the trees and the rough guarantee that recovery is not going to be easy.
But the darn course is so pretty, that you almost don't care. And the price, oh my, the price is just really really sweet.
So I strongly recommend that you go to this course when you want to work on your game.
This is not a hard course, unless you don't hit them straight.
Heron Glen Golf Course
Played On 06/17/2015Great Course If You Are In The Area
I didn't know how long it would take to get to this course from Southern Bergen Country until I started driving. I called the pro shop and said that I was running late and they shifted my tee time with a smile.
It is a very solid course that seems deceptively easy. Mark my words, it is not. The second rough eats balls and the greens, which are in perfect condition, are deceptive. I played with a son and his parents who play there all the time so that made the experience much more enjoyable.
The course was packed on a Wednesday afternoon, but it moved very quickly on the front nine. The back nine backed up at 10 but eventually evened out. One thing I noticed is that everyone was a good golfer. Hackers and beginners should avoid this course. And that is good for the rest of us.
Bowling Green Golf Club
Played On 06/14/2015A Hidden Gem . . . and a Keeper.
My wife (whose drives average 180-200 yards) and I love this course. It is tree lined, with a ton of water and lakes and marshes. It is beautiful, quiet, exceptionally well maintained and reasonably challenging.
We will go back again and again to this course. It is a hidden gem and a keeper.
Thank you so much for your review. We value your feedback, and hope to see you back soon.
