Mountain Brook Golf Club
Played On 05/25/2018Great Summer AZ Value
We get out early - sometimes we need a jacket at the start. By the time we leave, which is about 3 hours, it's hinting at hot at this time of year. This course is in great shape. Greens fees reasonable, fairways nicely cut, greens fast but not ridiculous. The rough is mostly desert or short, not watered grass. (ez) You are still in trouble on some greens if you hit above the hole and have to putt downhill, but most greens are fairly flat. We were going to eat at the grill as we heard it was good, but it was jammed with people, so apparently they were right. I don't know about winter golf at this course as I let the snowbirds take over. Now and through the summer, though, it's worth the drive.
The Links Golf Club At Queen Creek
Played On 05/01/2017Nice Away from Town Trip
This course is in really nice shape right now. The greens were smooth and fairly fast and it did take some finesse around them. Tees and fairways were both great. This course has come a long way since it used to close during summer months. They have a June (of '17) special going for $99 anytime with cart. They make good food at the grill, too. Don't go flying too fast when driving east on Ocotillo past Ironwood/Gantzel or you'll miss the entrance.

Played On 03/27/2017Round Messed by Computer Error?
First of all, the course is in very good shape. They have really worked on it and it paid off. We like to get out really early due to work and commitments. We played the front nine in just under 90 minutes. We had a third person join us, he was a great guy with a very good game (better than ours).
When we rounded to #10, there were three groups of senior citizens in front of us waiting at the tee, and two more in the fairway, with one group walking off the green. (I'm a senior citizen too btw) This was the "back nine breakfast and nine holes" club. The starter seemed bewildered. The pro shop staff came out and stated that "computer error" caused them to back up at the tee. Maybe it booked too many? The group behind us had time commitments, made some comments, and left the course. The group behind them came up and waited behind us. I was hoping the office staff would come up to us and apologize with a "replay discount gesture" of some kind, but not. It took a bit over 2.5 hours to play the back nine. So, three-hour pace front nine, 5-hour pace back nine. We'll play there again, but I really would like to have seen something done for us due to their "computer error."
San Tan Highlands
Played On 11/14/2016A Fun Experience
The course has switched nines since the last time I played there. I always felt warmer taking on the mixed elevations of the back once I finished the front flat nine, but now that is reversed, and I think less enjoyable. They cannot see the old #1 tee, now #10, from the shop. After you pay, TAKE YOUR RECEIPT TO THE STARTER AT THE WAGON. We were wondering why we were not being called up. Last time we played there was no starter, now we know. The pro shop was not clear that we needed to check in twice (with him and with the starter outside), so don't make that mistake. The course will be in great shape soon. The greens are coming in nicely. I suggest you play the tees where you can hit the greens in regulation, or hit your shots very straight.
Mission Royale Golf Club
Played On 01/25/2016Now is the Time
The course is in really good shape. I played the ball down the entire round with fairly decent lies in the fairway. The rough is simply dormant or desert, and you might get lucky not being under a bush. The undulating greens are sneaky quick if you get above the hole, so be careful taking that into account.
San Miguel Golf Club
Played On 11/18/2015Coming Around
We played San Miguel a month ago. If you have ever driven to Tucson from Phoenix, you will see this course to your right as you make the giant left then right turn by Eloy. It has loads of interesting shots. If you don't mind bumping the ball a bit you will have more fun as there are many thin and bare spots in fairways and rough. The tees are ok, and the undulating greens and aprons are coming in nicely. The greens do not look smooth, but the putt fairly true and quick. Play after noon to get some nice breezes that can change your shot selection.
San Miguel Golf Club
Played On 10/28/2015We'll Try This Course Again
This is a fun course with some interesting shots into the large, undulating greens. It is a links-style course, so much of the trouble off the tee will be what you manufacture. Right now the course is not in good shape. It appears the "overseed" did not take, but more than likely the course, which closed for the hot summer months. bared out in some places and the new grass cannot take. The greens were slow and bumpy. We were shopping price ($20 + $5 fees) so we tried it. We will try it again in a few months, as we observed a concerned pro and a superintendent discussing options.
Scottsdale Silverado Golf Club
Played On 11/10/2014Very Nice, Well Run, Quick, Smooth Greens
We played this as a HOT DEAL reward, otherwise it would have been off budget. The course was great. We were paired with two delightful German visitors. There was a large women's league playing, but the course was so well managed that we never crossed paths with them. This is a very fun course, not too long, with greens that hold and are very true - I felt like I was playing in Chicago in early July. Really big hitters will not enjoy this course so much, but with my body injury ridden, and popgun distance drives, it was great!
Aguila Golf Course
Played On 11/03/2014Nice to Try
We played the day they hosted the Arizona High School Championships. I really could not fathom that they let us out on the course in advance of the championship. The greens were smooth and true. I hope that they keep them that way, because if it was just for that day, then my review would be tainted,
Robson Ranch Golf Club
Played On 03/17/2014Worth the trip, you can throw darts at the pins
We played early on a Monday. The course was very well organized, with the starter and pro shop communicating and right on top of things. A single joined our twosome, and the three of us had a great round together. These greens would hold a well hit shot. I tried to pitch and roll a few shots from inside 100, but the ball would stick and come up 30 feet short. We met some locals that were very friendly, and the pace of play was very good. It was a 50 minute drive from the center of Chandler.
Arizona City Golf Club
Played On 02/17/2014A nice ride south for a quick round
The first thing one notices is that some of the octogenarian locals are jumping on the course as they have "first off" rights. Do not fear, however, because they are gone like a flash. Since we were paired with another twosome who took the same bait we did, we never saw those first groups again. This 18 pancakes course is in OK shape, but don't play here if you are playing the ball in the strictest "down" manner, as the bare patches and distressed grass fairways may ruin your day. The greens are like a lot of inexpensive fee courses are, and you learn to play the ball to bounce/roll up to the pin rather than play darts.
Greenfield Lakes Golf Course
Played On 6/10/2013Good course for fine tuing
Greenfield Lakes is a forgiving course for fine tuning your game or to take an inexperienced player. I finished 18 in 90 minutes, and that was with my own two-ball scramble.
Western Skies Golf Club
Played On 6/3/2013Nice, flat challenge
While Western Skies is not going to WOW visitors, it is a very nice course, well-maintained, and has a great food, reasonably priced restaurant included. Much of the course is fairly wide open, but some hazards and strategically placed plants can jump up and bite a wayward shot.
Springfield Golf Resort
Played On 1/3/2013Quick & Friendly 18 holes
I played with a friend who gets out maybe twice a year. We agreed an executive would work for both of us. We walked onto the first tee at 9:25 and off the 18th at 11:33. We skipped the 11th hole since a local was not about to let us through. Course was "winter OK" for an executive. The fairways were green but hard. Greens were moderately slow, but mostly smooth. It was a great time to talk, hit, and ride while we played, although we did not have to fully discuss how to make the AZ Cardinals champions in such a fast round. This is a fun course to take a beginner, a junior, or just to relax like we did. Restaurant has great food.
Painted Mountain Golf Club
Played On 12/31/2012Fun Little Course, Fast Play
We got out early as a twosome and played at our own pace, although we could see some problems behind us. The course was in very good shape. This was a great course for me even from the blue tees - coming off rotator cuff surgery and still hitting short tee shots. Greens were very smooth and fairly fast. They also held good shots nicely. This is a nice track for medium, straight ball hitters, but big hitters are liable to go for the par 4's and end up in someone's barbecue.
Bear Creek Golf Complex - Bear Course
Played On 11/12/2012Nice Course, make your own trouble
We played early in the cold, but it was nice by nine or so. The course was ready for play really early in mid-November, so the maintenance people hustled. This is too easy course for a long-hitter (but maybe still fun), but just right for the restofus. Nice restaurant to relax if you have time before/after.
Thank you for your kind words! We hope to see you again at the course very soon for another 5-star experience. Thanks for choosing Aguila Golf Course.
