Greens way too fast for a $30 round course. I played with high handicappers and they 3-5 putted every hole. I finally instructed them that the rules ask you to pick up after Triple bogey.
Round took 5 hours for a MONDAY!
My cart faulted out after 3rd hole. Had to abandon it and run back to the club house for another one.
A couple of gimmicky holes that were just nonsense.
Literally don’t think they watered all season. I couldn’t get a strong footing on any sloped fairway.
Only food is a vending machine with candy and chips. I’m not kidding.
But overall for a round under $30, it was a good deal.

This course is a gem in the winter months. Irrigation is top of the line and greens roll true. If you can get on for under $75 a round, it’s a steal.

Sadly thr greens are getting destroyed but what appears to be a fungus or other disease. I hope they can get them to bounce back. It’s gonna be a tough season for them. But genuinely everything else is incredible. Just wanted to give a heads up.

Don’t get me wrong, $40 is a good price for the layout but the whole course was grass patches. The greens literally were like shag carpet. I was sent off at 845am as a single with about 8 groups ahead of me. Solo round took 4.5 hours. I ended up hitting three balls on each hole. The front nine was packed with golfers and they were still mowing the fairways, so I hit in to a few mowers.
Course lacked quality warning of hazards but actually the course was challenging. Sadly, you couldn’t get any action with the ball on any greens.
If I was a member, I would be terribly disappointed with course conditions.

Played On 09/18/2020great mountain course
It was cart path only and unfortunately, the course plays to the left yet all the paths are on the right side of the fairways. Lots of walking back and forth.
Overall, fantastic mountain course. The views are epic and the elevation makes cooking the ball fairly easy. Not a whole lot of shaping shots. Pretty straight throughout.
Greens are faster than they seem!!

I enjoyed the beginning of the course layout. A lot of fun shape shots until I realized driver just wasn't every going to come out of the bag. Not a huge deal but an 3h with a PW approach from the blues is basically the entire game. 12 handicap and I was +2 at the turn. No alerts that greens were just aerated, so just gave myself honest 2 puts for each hole.
Tried to push through a 4 some only to discover that there was a league going on. Come to find out, there's a "league every day" of about 25-30 guys that go out in one push. I asked if I could join them for a 5 some since we were already mashed up. Guy say "you can't do 5 some's". I knew these guys were guys to stick to the rules. The gentlemen were cordial and I just lagged behind but the two some and a single caught up with me and played ready golf. So, I'd wait 10 or so minutes, then hit. As soon as my swing was done the 2 some was swinging and dropping shots around me. Needless to say, frustrating.
Overall, the course is definitely a shape shot wonderland. Cutting over some trees, and playing some mounds to get awesome kicks to the green was a lot of fun. The "members" of a public course, I could do without their "we own the place" attitude. Very disappointed with the Ranger not doing a better job of placing players. I could have kicked off 10 and had a nice rhythmic blast.
So be warned. Ask ahead of time what kind of groups are in front. I teed off around 945 and caught up to them on #4 at around 10:35 or so. Then watched them wait for each other, line up all the puts, 4 guys search for one lost ball, and a guy losing a towel only to come back 2 holes later and without asking me if I grabbed it. Yeah, bud, I grabbed your towel. Here you go, er, I meant to say wait.
South/North at Etowah Valley Country Club & Golf Lodge
Played On 09/28/2020Good value
Not bad for a $25 round. The starter even let me blaze through the additional 9 I didn’t get to play.
Overall, I’d say they keep things inexpensive and the course reflects it in quality. Not the greatest turf but manageable. Not too many shape shots, kind of an open layout. Don’t expect this to be a super aggressive mountain course. And be prepared for the north course and it’s layout. The course zigzags and you really gotta double check tee boxes to make sure you are hitting in the right spot.
Expect typical value golfers out there. Speakers rocking, chugging beers and screaming profanities. Not a huge deal but just know what you are getting.
Loved the south course the most. Very nice layout cut into the trees.
Lastly, thank you for keeping the trees. Gary Player, the tree hugger, would be thankful.
