Did not meet expectations

This course has a very fine reputation. It is known for being one of the nicest public courses on the cape. I had very high hopes that were quickly brought crashing down to earth. The conditions were average to below average, tee boxes were in very rough shape and greens were slow and covered in ball marks that looked like they hadn’t been fixed all year. A lot of burnt out patches in the fairways and rough. The pace was atrocious. We quit after over 4 hours on the 16th tee. The front 9 the starter allowed a member who was supposed to play with us join the group in front. We didn’t mind but they were ridiculously slow. They were older gentlemen but did not allow us, a twosome in a cart, play through their foursome who were walking. The starter or the ranger should have had them pick it up or let us go through. There were at least 4 holes between them and the group in front of them yet no word from any of the staff. The staff were friendly and the restaurant seemed nice. I have played many of the public courses on the cape in the last few weeks and this is by far my least favorite. For almost a $100 round you can get better value at the municipal courses in neighboring Dennis.

Best Municipal I have ever played

Everything about this course blew me away. I did not have huge expectation for a muni but you could have told me this is a private course with 6 figure membership and I would believe you. Very hilly and open with a beautiful back 9 that will remind you of classic US Open and PGA Tour venues. Just long enough to challenge big hitters while being fair to the average hacker. You must think your way around the course on every hole. The conditions are impeccable and the greens roll true. Tee boxes are always kept up and fairways are lucious and never overgrown. Staff has always been great to me and pace of play has never been over 4 hours even when crowded. Great driving range and practice greens. If you get a chance to play this course, it is well worth the $90 and even better if you’re vacationing for a few weeks and can get a membership. You get two courses and you can play both every day and be satisfied.

Best Course at Doral

Everything here was great. The service is the best you’ll find in south Florida. Doral itself is an absolutely must see if you’re in Miami. I played 3 courses here and this was the best by far. It was about $100 cheaper than alll the other courses so I was wary at first, but it turns out this was my favorite. In terms of quality, it is phenomenal. Just as nice if not nicer than the Gold and Red Courses and about as nice as the Blue Monster. It’s set back from the other courses which is good because the resort is so close to the airport, you get a break from the planes flying overhead for the majority of the holes. It’s played less often than the Red and Gold so it maintains its great condition. The fairways are long with only a few places to miss on each hole. The bunkers are placed so that you won’t be in the sand all day but still have to avoid hitting into them. The layout was perfect. For a difficult course, it was still an absolute blast to play. Water everywhere which makes for tons of wildlife and great scenery with all the different types of greenery. The greens were excellent and very playable so you can make some good putts. All in all if you’re gonna visit Doral, you should play the Silver. It’s as close as you can get to the Blue Monster while being about $200 cheaper with the same great service and conditions.

Donald Ross at his finest

What a great place. The hotel is so cool and historic. The course is no different. Donald Ross would be proud. We played from the Blues which was 6400 yards but played like 7,000. A lot of really tough par 4’s on this course. The greens were insanely fast. It’s almost impossible to keep an approach shot on the green. This is definitely a stop you should make if you’re in Miami, you’ll feel like Al Capone or Gatsby at this place. The staff could’ve been a little more helpful and the starter seemed rushed to get everyone out because we let 2 groups play though and still finished in a little under 4 hours. This is a course I would love to play everyday however and hope to play again before I leave.

Outstanding

All I can say is wow. Doral itself is like Disneyworld for golf and luxury. I was blown away the entire time. The staff were exceptional and the course and facilities were excellent. I signed up to play the Red Tiger and got paired in a foursome. The starter said the Red was backed up and it would take 6 hours to finish and since the Gold course was empty we decided to play that. It was definitely harder than the Red, the fairways are really tight but very playable if you can make good shots. The greens were very tough, you had to make almost perfect approach shots to even sniff a birdie. The layout was great, tons of water and very scenic. Most of it was away from residential areas too so it felt more secluded than the other courses. I would come back and play this course everyday if I could!

Cool course

I'll start off by saying this is by no means a bad course, as far as public courses go this is well above average. The layout felt like a true championship course and boy does it show it's teeth. The fairways reward good shots but no matter how rewarded you get, good luck hitting the microscopic greens! It's an extremely scenic course being set within a park. There are no houses or roads in sight, just nature and a whole lot of wildlife. However, upon arriving I couldn't find any staff at all to direct me to the pro shop. The lady working the desk wasn't unfriendly but she certainly could've been more outgoing. I rented clubs and on the website I was told they had Taylormade or Nike clubs for $70 a round. Turns out they didn't have either and all they had was a mixed set for $90. The driver and 3 wood were old Cobras and the irons were low quality tour edge ones with only a pitching wedge. On the first tee I hit a clean drive and watched my clubhead sail into the water. On the second hole the same thing happened to the 3 wood. They must have given me senior or regular flex because I requested stiff flex and when the pro came out to replace them I was fine the rest of the round. The club pro was very helpful and in good spirits. After a very challenging front 9 the drink cart came around and the women spoke no English which isn't a big deal but definitely something that stood out after mostly subpar service to begin with. Anyways to sum it up, the course itself is fantastic. Beautiful layout and truly one of the most scenic and difficult courses I have ever played on. The service however was extremely disappointing. The club pro was great but even after my round at 6 PM on a Saturday the bar was closed and I couldn't even find staff to help with my clubs. For the money they charge for non residents (up to $200 a round during peak season) you would expect much better service and could easily experience a great course at Doral or the Biltmore with excellent service.
