Resort at Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort
Played On 02/16/2021Desert favorite
I always enjoy the Resort course at Tahquitz Creek after many years of playing there.
The greens are true and fairly quick and apart from a few areas that have not grown in yet, the fairways are very good: the bunkers are well kept, but some have small rocks..
I love this layout which is very fair. It has a great variety of holes combining easy ones with some requiring long carries to elevated greens for the second shot. Some beautiful views and water features really enhance the golfing experience.
Extending the tee times to 15 minutes apart has really helped the pace of play and we completed 18 holes in 3 hours 20 minutes with our foursome.
Escena Golf Club
Played On 03/18/2019Not for the average golfer!
Would recommend it but——-
1 pace of play was very slow- 4:45 for the round and we had to wait on almost every shot. The marshal said the course was jammed, probably because the policy is to get as many rounds in as possible in the shortest time.
2 This course was not designed for the average golfer. Even from the middle ‘Teal’ tees playing 6100 yards it was
really very tough and almost unfair. While it had mostly short par fives, the risk for getting to the green in two was too great.. Only one par three was for a mid iron while all the others were very long with too many obstacles around them. The par fours were mostly fair and reachable in two, but a couple were ‘lay up’ holes for the second shot .
3 The bunkers were hard with too many rocks in them ( Thank goodness for the new rule allowing removal of them, but that takes time)
Overall the course was in good condition but the greens, while being true, were hard and it was tough to stop the ball from the fairway. The fairways were generously wide and quite firm allowing some decent distance off the tee, but there were always bunkers to avoid. Water features were very aesthetic and located fairly around the course.
Do not expect to enjoy this course unless you are really up for a challenge and you are on your A game, and do not expect to play quickly.
The Country Club at Soboba Springs
Played On 02/08/2019Some disappointment.
This course was in good condition with generally decent fairways (some bare spots), with quick but receptive greens. However it is very difficult for the average bread and butter golfer with several water hazards and bunkers. The bunkers have new sand and very well kept, but the semi rough is too thick and far too difficult for the average golfer to deal with.
With the blue tees at 6000 yds and the black tees at 6500, there needs to be a combo option on the card to play at 6250 for the middle handicapper.
I was disappointed with the recent renovations except for the 13th hole which was obviously redesigned to enhance the view from the new hotel and casino. While this is a cute par 4, surrounded by lakes, waterfalls and bridges, it resembles the old 14th hole. The new 14 is the same as the old # 15, and the new 15th and 16th holes offer nothing exciting and are made really
difficult by unfairly placed sand traps.
While I left somewhat disappointed this is still a fine golf course and worth the trip from Palm Springs about 45 minutes away as long as you bring your ‘A’ game with you.
Golf Club At Terra Lago - North Course
Played On 01/05/2019Very good golf experience
The course conditions were very good except for the bunkers which were generally very hard because of excess watering and not being raked before the start of daily play. The fairways were well cared for, giving good lies, and the greens held on approach shots and putted true with moderate speed.
This course is a good test of golf requiring well placed tee shots because of several waste areas and thick brush with lethal thorns. Approach shots need to be on target to elevated greens that have a lot of slope and guarded by lots of bunkers: you will need your A game to score well. There is great variety in the course layout with some interesting elevation changes and beautiful water holes.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating, and the facilities were excellent on and off the course.
Indian Canyons Golf Resort - North Course
Played On 01/02/2019Very good playing conditions.
Super quick greens and excellent fairways although some greens were a little firm.
While I recommend this course, I am not thrilled by the flat layout among the houses and some of the lakes I remember from the past have been drained leaving large barren depressions.. This was a big disappointment and definitely affected my enjoyment on returning to play this course.
Resort at Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort
Played On 03/26/2019Still worth playing
While the 1st and 16th fairways were damaged by the St Valentines Day flood and are very bare in places, the rest of the course is very playable apart from some bunkers which are wet and hard in places. A lot of work still needs to be done removing piles of silt and sand , but these really do not interfere with play.
The greens are in good condition and true but a little slow, and there needs to be new sand in the bunkers.
Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort - North/South
Played On 12/28/2018In great shape
This course is in the best shape I have seen it. Neat fairways, quick, even greens, good sand traps and attractive water features. Well worth the experience of being there.. There is a nice combination of elevations, short and long holes to make it enjoyable yet challenging. I recommended it for any level of golfers.
Resort at Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort
Played On 12/26/2018One of my favorite courses in the valley.
This course is really well laid out with a very good variety of holes ranging from easy to difficult and short to long, providing every golfer with a fair and challenging round. There are great vistas from almost every hole and a couple of really nice water features.
Course conditions were very good with well kept fairways and nice moderately paced greens. My only reservations were that the bunkers were hard in places with several small rocks, and there were several unrepaired ball marks on the greens.
I would recommended this course very any level of golfer.
Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon - Legends Course
Played On 02/05/2018Good value
I got a great rate on golf now and this course is well worth the trip from the Palm Springs area where at this time of the year golf prices are at a premium.
The Legends course is a really interesting layout with a great variety of holes requiring the use of almost every club in the bag from the blue/white combination tees. The fairways are generous and well kept and the greens receptive and quite quick . My only reservations about the course are some of the tee boxes are quite worn and some of the bunkers need more sand.
The staff are very helpful and friendly and the facilities are excellent with a newly remodeled lounge with really good beverage prices and selections for the after round beer.
Firecliff at Desert Willow Golf Resort
Played On 01/31/2018Beware
If I had paid the rack rate for an out of area golfer I would have been very disappointed with the golfing conditions. While the course is beautifully laid out in pristine desert conditions with lush fairways and greens, it was very difficult to score on because there was very little roll on the fairways and the greens were slow.
This is a bargain for Palm Desert residents paying the local rate, but as visitor, I have played other courses in the area at an affordable rate but as well kept with friendlier fairways and better greens.
It seems like keeping the grass looking great
is more important than the golfing experience.
Shadow Hills Golf Club
Played On 01/07/2018Nice golf experience
I got a great deal on Golf Now so decided to play this course for the first time,. While I have played more exciting courses in the desert, and prefer to play on a course not hemmed in with homes which all look the same, it was a well kept with lush fairways and smooth greens.
There were plenty of bunkers and water hazards, but the fairways were generous and the target areas accessible.
The pace of play was slow on the front nine where our threesome had to wait on every shot, but was better on the back nine when the threat of darkness made those in front of us speed up.
The friendliness of the staff was excellent.
Woodlands at Sunriver Resort
Played On 09/15/2017A Sunriver gem
I play this course regularly and never get fed up with it.
It is always a challenge with well placed bunkers and water hazards, and a lazy and errant shot can punish you.
The course is always in great condition with firm, green fairways and quick but receptive greens. This year more sand was added to the bunkers, which in the past has been hard and more difficult to play to the pin.
Every hole is very different on this course with a fine selection of doglegs, and elevation changes. The fairways have generous landing areas , but a bad shot can be punished by trees, rocks, long grass bitterbrush. Playing from the member tees ( a mixture of blue and white) will require using almost every club in the bag, while the white tees is an excellent option for the higher handicapper.
Th enjoyment of playing this course is always enhanced by the very professional staff who are super friendly and helpful.
This course is a must for golfers visiting Central Oregon.
Resort at Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort
Played On 02/20/2017Late tee off time and very slow pace.
Normally I enjoy playing Taquitz Creek Resort Course because it is a fun course in very good condition, but his time I was disappointed in teeing off 30 minutes late and then playing only 12 holes in three hours.
There were far too many people crammed into this course as there were no carts available for our tee time , the pace of play was too slow as we were waiting on every hole and there were no marshals marshals on the course to speed things up- there was one group ahead of us which was one and a half holes behind the group ahead of it. What seemed a reasonable green fee for our mid afternoon tee time turned out to be poor value and a bad experience.. This is the second time this has happened, and while I understand the need to make money during a limited season this course should have been managed better for the enjoyment of its customers.
Palm Desert Resort Country Club
Played On 02/08/2017Going to pieces.
I have enjoyed this course in the past because it has been in good condition and is a nice layout, but this year I was very disappointed.
The greens were in very poor condition with many bare spots, random spiking and seeding and very slow and bumpy in places. The lakes were low and the waterfalls and streams were empty. The fairways were in decent condition, but this the worst course I have played In the Coachella Valley this winter so far.
Apart from the extremely pleasant staff this was not what I was expecting.
The Country Club at Soboba Springs
Played On 02/02/2017Great value.
This is the third year playing this course in the winter and it is in the best condition that have seen it, with green fairways, receptive but fast greens and all the water features working. The rains this year have really transformed this course into something special.
This course is extremely good value and well worth the 45 minute trip from Palm Springs to play it, and is far enough south of the pass to be away from strong winds. I love the layout and the black/ blue tees combination playing roughly 6200 yards. It is fair but challenging with a great variety of holes forcing you to use almost very iron in your bag.
My only gripe is, and has been, the large flocks of coots and ducks making some of the fairways very messy.
Will definitely go back !
Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon - Champions Course
Played On 01/06/2017Good value
Apart from a couple of holes which were wet in places, the course was in very good condition with good lies in the fairways and receptive and smooth greens. We played in under four hours. Playing the blue tees was very challenging as some of the par fours played very long.into a brisk east wind, however this course was very good value and I would recommend it.
The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Woodlands at Sunriver Resort
Played On 09/15/2016One of my favorites
As a Sunriver member I play this course regularly.
I love the layout as every hole is different with elevation changes and a variety of doglegs.
The course is always in great condition with well groomed fairways and quick, true and receptive greens.
My only criticisms are that the sand traps need more sand - very hard in places and the rough is punishing.
The views and surroundings are wonderful.
Meadows at Sunriver Resort
Played On 09/13/2016Very fine course
While I play this course regularly, I always enjoy the experience with some challenging holes and very playable ones
The course is now in very good condition with fast and true greens ( although could be more receptive) well groomed fairways and new sand traps which can be tough, but fair.
The views are wonderful.
Jug Mountain Ranch Golf Course
Played On 07/18/2016Abysmal greens
These greens are dreadful right now. Lots of frost damage, heavily sanded and very uneven. Simply a lottery when trying to make putt and some of the worst greens I have ever seen.
Our golfing group was told that half the greens were in good condition before we played the course. Don't believe it!
Otherwise the course has an excellent layout and is in good condition.
Buffalo Peak Golf Course
Played On 07/16/2016Very poor greens
When I played this course in 2012 I was stunned by its beauty and the incredible views, but really disappointed by the slow and uneven greens.
Four years later , things have not changed,. It is extremely difficult to judge the line and pace on these greens. Balls hit online can veer off quickly by hitting a bump or can come up short or go well past the hole when applying the same amount of effort. Making a putt on these green is like playing the lottery- hit and hope.
It is a shame that I cannot recommend this golf course to anyone who takes pride in their putting. These run at about a 7 on the stimp meter..
To be fair to this course, the fairways are very good, the sand traps are well manicured and you will enjoy the awesome surroundings.
