Hughes Creek Golf Club
Played On 08/22/2021Great times on a great course
Hughes creek is a fun 18 hole course nestled into the far west suburbs of Chicago. Lined with beautiful homes and farm fields, Hughes offers a fun yet challenging experience throughout its 18 holes. Each hole is designed to challenge mid to high handicappers with tough yardages and pin placements but still offer the abilities for beginners and experienced golfers to have fun. Wonderfully maintained greens and fairways offer a pleasant experience for all golfers young and old. Bring a friend or link up with new people. Hughes is a great way to enjoy golf in its best form.
Pros:
1. Great layout to challenge all levels
2. Greens are elevated and well maintained.
3. Great restaurant and bar
4. Friendly staff
Cons:
1. Pace of play is usually pretty slow, I’d say my average round time is 4.5 hours or more
2. Inexperienced golfers usually leave divots in greens
3. No driving range but a nice chipping and putting green
4. Very limited balls and tees etc in clubhouse for purchase
Well worth the money and always so much fun! I play it regularly!

Now I fully understand that there is not much you can do when it has rained as much as it has. Courses can only drain so much. My issue has nothing do with the courses wet playing condition as that is just part of golf. However, this course in a nutshell is a “nightmare”. Let’s start with the basics. The fairways and rough are the exact same style of grass, one is just cut shorter than the other. There is no first cut rough either so it goes from a medium style of grass fairway to ankle height weeds very quickly. There are multiple areas on the course where they are trying to grow fairway grass and their methods seem to be laying down huge chunks of sod. I have never seen this on a course before but it is not a good look. There are no yardage markers on most holes. It’s like they just don’t put them out there. The sprinkler heads have either the wrong yardage or no yardage on them. One of the sprinkler heads next to the green had the yardage marker cap of 122yds on it. It’s obvious there is no organization. Players range from experienced to newbies and most people have no golf etiquette to be found. One of those courses where drinking and smoking a cigar is more fun then golf.
It’s a bottom tier course in poor condition and the price to play is outrageous in comparison to the quality. I would not suggest playing unless you get a hot deal and can make it cheap cheap.
Orchard Valley Golf Course
Played On 09/25/2020It’s a pretty challenging course blighted by non golfers with no class
First time playing evening golf and it was brutally slow off the tee. That’s going to hinder my ability to really review this course. We waited no less than 10 minutes on each tee box to tee off because the group in front of us had no golf etiquette. For 88 dollars for 18 and a cart and to barely be able to play 9 in a 2 and a half hour period just frustrated us.
The course itself was fun and in ok shape. Tee boxes were wet and slanted and most greens had no ball mark repairs. It’s like no one does what’s right.
Thank you for your review. We apologize for the slow pace of play. If you'd like to discuss your concerns further, please feel free to reach out to us at info@orchardvalleygolf.com.
Pottawatomie Golf Club
Played On 08/21/2020Fun and affordable
A great par 3 golf course with fantastic design for the price. Easy to walk and play, the course offers just enough challenge for experienced golfers and even a better experience for new golfers. Be aware that as it is a public park district course the pace of play is very inconsistent. It is common to get stuck behind slower groups but mostly it is a fair pace.
It’s design is gorgeous nestled on the Fox River with plenty of wildlife and gorgeous views. I play once a week and love it!

They have no concept of spacing out tee times. When we arrived we were 20 mins early, 4:03 start time. Rolled up to the starter at 4:05 and he complained that we were late. He then let two walk ups tee off in front of us behind a foursome that had on experienced golfers in their group. On average we waited about 15 minutes in between each hole. I ended up playing number 8 twice cause i did not want to wait anymore.
Not the best twilight golf experience.
