Course is great, but staff needs some help.

This was my first time to Tega Cay this past weekend and from the other reviews, I was excited to play. We played the Carolina Pines/Grand View 9's. Overall the course was in excellent shape. Fairways and rough were green and in good shape, and despite a recent aeration (with no notice from the course or GN), the greens were fast, but held true. The two 9's that we played were very different from each other. The first was heavily wooded with lots of doglegs and blind shots. Fortunately there is no water or sand on any of these holes. The 2nd 9 was full of water and sand and although the holes were straighter, they were much tighter as well. Lots of elevation changes on both 9's. I'd definitely like to play again now that I know where to hit the ball.

Now for the staff and facilities - I had gotten to the course early so I could hit the range. There was very little signage indicating where the ball machine was located, and an instructor was giving a lesson in the middle of the range, and talking very loudly. There was also a group of younger kids getting a group lesson on the putting green, running around wildly, often getting in the way of my putts. At the very least, the instructor should be teaching some etiquette. When it came time to tee off, there was no starter to be found, and never being there before, lots of confusion over where to go. Once we found #1, a starter appeared from the trees to punch our tickets. The other twosome was lost as well as they rolled up to the tee after we waited about 5 minutes. Someone really should be directing traffic back by the practice area.

Once we got started, things flowed smoothly. Pace of play was good and we only waited on 1 or 2 holes. The big FAIL of the day was making the turn around Noon. There is a rather large snack shack, but when we asked about food, we were told they were out of sandwiches and directed us to the lukewarm hot dogs. How can you already be out of sandwiches at noon?!? Perhaps if one of the 4 ladies standing behind the counter got off her phone for 5 minutes, she could've made some more sandwiches, but you could tell they didn't want to be bothered.

The course was nice enough for me to want to come back, but I'll wait until the "staff" has gone back to college.

Good Value, Average Course

Despite low expectation, I was pleasantly surprised by this course. The spring rains have been good to the course, bringing greenness to fairways and roughs and keeping the greens in good shape. The grass was a little long, keeping putting speeds low, but they were soft enough to hold a few of my better shots.

Course layout is a jekyll & hyde with the front 9 being mainly wide open, while the back 9 starts to get narrow as it winds through the trees. Despite it's short length (only 6500 from the back tees) some blind shots and the undulating greens make for a moderate challenge.

My only complaint is the pace of play due to those who want to walk the course. With the hilly terrain, and poorly placed paths, walking can add extra time to the round. Because of this, the course should limit walking to early morning or afternoon rounds. Carts should be required during prime time. Additionally, the ranger should do a better job keeping pace up vs. just making sure folks adhere to the 90 degree rule.

Long and challenging.

From the first tee to the last you will enjoy the scenic views and hilly venue that makes up Red Bridge. The multiple par 5's on the scorecard indicate this is going to be a long course...and it is. #18 is over 600 yards! Careful though as many of the markers and tee boxes don't match yardage wise, especially the Par 3's. The greens are firm, but roll well. Overall, a good course that I'd play again.

Great course that will get better with attention.

Played this course over the weekend and was very impressed. Tee boxes were in good shape, although the Blues and Golds seem to be recently swapped as the signs and GPS's all had them the other way. Greens were in great shape and they had some of the best sand I've ever played out of. (Although someone in the group ahead of us thought he was above raking)

The design of the course is beautiful and challenging at the same time, with well placed doglegs and bunkers, and the occasional blind shot.

Staff was courteous, but seemed out of sorts at the beginning with no clear indication of which cart we should take and the signage for where to go is lacking. Unfortunately, there was no ranger on the course to keep pace up and we ended up with close to a 5 hour round.

Play here if you want a challenge...

I received an email for a discounted rate at Cobblestone over Labor Day weekend so I decided to take a friend who was visiting from up north. The email was actually from a different Cobblestone (in TX) but the staff laughed it off and honored the rate.

This was my 2nd time here and the course was in great conditions both times. The tee boxes were fantastic and the greens, despite being aerated a few weeks before, rolled true. The layout is very challenging and requires thoughtful shotmaking to score well. The lake and trees make for a beautiful backdrop and my friend was very impressed with this course.

Unfortunately the ranger seemed to be on the course only to take in the sights as pace of play was slow. There were several walkers in the groups ahead of us, and that led to a 3 hour 9. (Walking should be discouraged over a holiday weekend!) The back opened up and we zipped through the next 6 hours in an hour.
