Turquoise Valley Golf Course & RV Park
Played On 08/10/2014Friendly Course Off the Beaten Track
Turquoise Valley has been around for a long time, originally as a nine hole course. The front nine (the old) is quite challenging with some rolling elevation changes and trees.
The back nine (the new) is relatively easy in comparison as long as you stay out of the desert lining each fairway. Numbers 10 and 18 are par 4s that can be driven. Number 15, "the rattler" is a 700+ yard par 6 that can make or break your round. Barely missed an eagle putt today but took a 15 on it several years ago!
All in all, a fun track usually in pretty good condition and well worth a detour to this little Arizona town on the Mexican border.
Sewailo Golf Club
Played On 07/27/2014Beautiful course - unfairly challenging
This is a beautiful golf course in immaculate condition. However, sight lines are horrible and too many quality shots run through fairways to water and sand hazards.
Hole locations the day we played would have been excellent for a major tour event.
Played early AM as a twosome in 3 1/4 hours - could easily see 5 hour rounds for foursomes, especially if players are intermediate or novices.
del Lago Golf Club
Played On 07/26/2014Prepare to Enjoy Yourself
This is a wonderful golf course with a variety of well designed holes. Have played here many times and the course is almost always in very good condition.
Play the correct tees and golfers of all levels will have an enjoyable time.
Pueblo del Sol Golf & Country Club
Played On 07/25/2014Enjoyable Course with Great Greens
The course is a relatively boring layout but is usually in good condition with excellent greens.
They have a tendency to over-water the course. The bunkers are very inconsistent, varying from mud to concrete texture.
Best course in Sierra Vista - worth playing if you're in town.
Mountain View Golf Course
Played On 07/19/2014Good Value - Poor Condition - Still Fun
First played this course about 13 years ago when it was in excellent condition. The course is quite interesting with a variety of challenging holes, sloping greens and beautiful views.
The site of many US Army championships, course conditions have unfortunately deteriorated over the years due to water restrictions, funding issues, and perhaps Commanding Generals who aren't golfers.
That's too bad because the course layout is a lot of fun. Still worth playing if you find yourself visiting Sierra Vista.
I made a typo on the tip --- greens break away from mountains, not toward them!
