Been terrible for years

I live on Southwyck and haven't played it years. It's been really sad to see the course run into the ground in the past 5 yrs. Before the pandemic they removed all bunkers and claimed it was to make the course more playable when everyone knew it was b/c they didn't want to maintain them. During the pandemic they took out all the water coolers and never brought them back. No explanation. Name another course that doesn't provide water! The layout is great but the fairways and greens are mostly terrible. They don't water. Every other course went through the same drought but Clear Creek and Country Place don't have 4 inch cracks in their fairways. I've been reading these consistently bad reviews since the pandemic and the mgmt responses have been the same for years. They just apologize for the conditions and say that they strive for a 5 star experience but yet nothing changes. I wish they could sell it to someone who will put some money into it. Just apologizing and doing nothing just makes it worse. My son plays golf for one of the local high schools and the team considers southwyck a joke and they never play it. All we can do as locals is continue to leave poor reviews and hope something changes.

Course in terrible shape

It pains me to watch Southwyck turn into such a terrible course, especially since I live along the course. I hadn't played it in quite a few months until this past Saturday evening. Thankfully I only paid the twilight rate of $25. This course has never kept up the rough, it's always been in terrible shape and just totally neglected. But you can get past that if the fairways and greens are good. Anyone who's played it knows the fairways are incredible bumpy, much more so on the front 9. You really have to do the slalom in your cart to find anything close to smooth ground that won't have your clubs bouncing everywhere. The fairway conditions weren't totally terrible, but at this point in the spring they should be better. The worst part of the course at this point is the greens. The only green that I rated "pretty good" was 16. Every other green either had tons of those little tiny patches of some other type of grass growing through, which make a straight put impossible, or there were huge patches of solid dirt, no grass. There's just no excuse for this by late April. The greens should be in the best condition of the year b/c the really hot sun hasn't had a chance to dry them out. In past years, before the current mgmt, the greens were really great in the spring and early summer. Conditions aside, many part of the course have become a total eyesore. A lot of of the water had been completely neglected. The wrap around pond that starts on the par 3 11th and runs around past the 12th tee box looks like a cesspool. The part by 12 is overrun by algae and has parts of a huge tree that rotted laying across it. It basically looks like you'd expect it to look if the golf course closed and a year went by. It's really embarrassing that mgmt doesn't see things like this as needing attention. Water is one of the main things that can make a course look beautiful and upscale. This is complete neglect. I'm not sure if course mgmt is to blame, or if the ultimate owner is not giving the course enough capital to maintain it properly. The course seems to get a lot of play, so can't imagine it wouldn't get even more if it were maintained. Plus, they could charge more. Like I said, it really saddens me to see the course go to complete s#!&, but that's the best way I can describe it. Anyone who pays $50+ on the weekend needs their head examined. Nearby Clear Creek and Pearland Golf Club are maintained MUCH better and are at basically the same price point. Clear Creek puts Southwyck to shame. Hopefully more golfers will leave honest reviews like this and get mgmt/ownership to do something. If I didn't live on the course I would never consider playing it again under these conditions.

Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. Your feedback about the course is important to us. We are working to get everything up to par. We have projects ongoing to recover the fairways and greens. The current condition is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We are going to escalate your feedback to our team so we can make improvements before your next game, and we will continue to work towards an excellent experience by using your comment for guidance. Thank you for playing - we hope to see you again soon.

Bad Experience

My 12 yr old son and I decided to try and squeeze in some holes and got to the course around 3pm on 11/30. I'd seen the online rate of $18 per person but was quoted more at the course, so I stood there and booked online on my phone through the course website. My total said $41.32, with $5.32 paid online and the confirmation said "total due at course $36". Once the online reservation showed up on the computer at the course, the attendant told me I owed $38-something (can't remember exact). I showed her my phone and she said that didn't include tax. But I showed her the line item that said "Taxes and fees $5.32". She was confused and went to get the manager. The manager tried to tell me it was a Golf Now Hot Deal and that I still had to pay tax, which it most certainly was not. Either way I tried to ask for an explanation as to how it says "total due at course" but that I can still be charged more at the course. She said it was my responsibility to take it up with Golf Now and that what was she supposed to do, discount my fee and then have to do it for everyone else? Needless to say I was stunned at being treated like this. I asked if she was willing to lose a customer over less than $3 and she just smirked and didn't say anything. I told her she should not discount my fee but that I should be allowed to play for what my confirmation says I owe, which was $36 and not a penny more. We walked out and I've now sent an email to the courses and the management company and am now leaving this review on Golf Now so that others can be warned that just because you're given a total charge online, they will try and charge you more once you get there. I sincerely hope that Southwyck will make this right.

You must have dealt with The Hot dog manager. She smirks alot and leaves alot of people unhappy, despite the numerous complaints from employees and customers, she is still there, making customers unhappy. Bad management.

Update: The General Mgr called me the very next morning and completely rectified the whole situation. She agreed that the situation was poorly handled and invited us back to play a round on her. Top notch response and we'll definitely be back now.

Course Not Playable

I live on this course so I'm intimately familiar with it. Not sure if they just neglected the greens over the winter, but they have been in really bad shape until now, when it appears that they are finally addressing them. Basically every green on the course is currently unplayable. Some have been completely or nearly completely re-sodded. Others, at a minimum, have been aerated and sanded, making them unplayable due to holes, lumps, and a lot of sand. What's most disappointing is that there has been a complete lack of communication. My son and I went on Thu afternoon (5/9) and the course was closed. We'd of course gotten a good deal of rain. We looked to see if there was a note on the door and also checked everywhere online and could find nothing (website, Facebook, etc). We called and were put on hold immediately stating that someone would get to us soon, but obviously there was no one there as there were no cars in the lot. I finally messaged the course through Facebook and asked when it would reopen. They responded and said that it was due to the weather. Coincidentally, at about the same time they did post that the course was closed on their FB page. I responded again and said that I was specifically wondering about the greens since they seem to be under maintenance and got no response. Still no response as of today (5/13). I assume they're charging full rates because we saw people on the course on Mother's Day. It's a great course when it's in good shape, but DO NOT waste your money right now. The greens are weeks if not months away from being playable. It's really been sad to watch this course go downhill, especially since it's right outside of my back yard. They regularly allow fivesomes (and sometimes more if you can believe it) and the pace is terribly slow on weekends. Marshalls not doing their jobs.
Unfortunately it's driven us to Clear Creek, who by the way has a great junior rate for my son. Southwyck does not offer a junior rate sadly.
