Long Rough

A combination of recent rain and preparation for the 2020 Farmers Insurance Open made the rough fairly long and difficult to find golf balls. The fairways also seemed to have been a narrowed making the course play a bit more difficult than regular times.

Overall the course is in great shape and you really can't find a better value for SD residents on a Sat morning. We had a 6:50 tee time and finished in just about 4 hours.

Bucket List Course Check!

It was one of the last courses in Vegas that I hadn't played previously and boy it did not disappoint! The service is top notch from the car service from the hotel to the pro shop to the course. It was pretty neat seeing the lockers of pros and celebrities.

Course conditions were great. Greens are pretty firm and hard to hold. Putts above the pin were fairly difficult. Pace was not an issue as we rarely saw anyone else around.

Our caddie, "Moose," was phenomenal. He was probably the best caddie I ever had from tee to green with where to lay up and how to read the greens. Unfortunately, the front tees still measure over 6,600 yards, but my girlfriend still had a great time.

The greens fee has increased to $600 so it hard to say that was the best value for the money. I will say it was better than losing $600 at the casinos.

Decent muni, but slow pace

Based on previous reviews we knew the pace would be slow, however the lack of a marshal really hurts the pace of play. For most of the round there were two to three groups on each tee box.

Fairways were in great shape for how much play this course gets. Greens are still recovering from the aeration, but were not horrible.

It's closing....

I've played this course twice since the announcement it was shutting down for good on March 18th. The first time I played it was a couple days after the announcement and the course was in decent shape. The starter promptly started us at our 7:36 tee time and we finished in little more than 4 hours. Most bunkers do not have sand in the them minus a few holes. The fairways and greens were in acceptable shape and the beverage cart worker came by a few times.

I played this course again one week later, but this time at 12:37. There was no starter and there were between 2-3 groups waiting on each tee. We finished in the dark 5.25 hrs later. Carts are failing as many people left them and begun walking on various holes. They appeared to stopped watering the course as the fairways and tee boxes are turning yellow and brown.

It's closing in 3 weeks so I can only imagine the conditions getting a bit worse.

Fairways and tee boxes need some work..

The greens were in pretty good shape, however the same cannot be said about the tees and fairways. There are a lot of bare spots in the fairways. I understand it is the summer time so it isn't as nice as the spring and fall. The blues tees on 15 were rock hard. You needed a hammer to get the tee in the ground from the upper box.

Nice layout and decent course

We played here on 2/18/13. We had a frost delay of about 30 minutes which wasn't too bad. There are five sets of tees here which suits anyone's game. The layout of the course was pretty good with many well placed bunkers. Most of the greens were splotchy especially the few first holes. In addition, most greens had many unrepaired ball marks. The fairways and tee boxes were in excellent condition. I wouldn't play here only because I think you can get better value for the money somewhere else.

Great course!

I enjoyed my time at Boulder Creek. There are 3 nine hole course and we were on the Desert Hawk/Eldorado courses. The rough is currently being died off, but the fairways, greens, and tee boxes were in excellent shape. Many of the holes on the Desert Hawk have waste bunkers lining the hole. The Eldorado course did not have any water hazards and played a bit easier. The $67.50 price point was a bit high in my opinion. It definitely would have been worth it at a lower price.

Gorgeous and challenging course

We played this course around 12:10 on a Thursday afternoon. It was absolute pristine condition. Unfortunately, it was cart path only which made for long walks to and from the cart. Several of the greens had difficult undulations, but for the most part ran very true. They were not as fast as I thought it would be. There are a few forced carries off the tee, but the most challenging part is the forced carries on the approaches. Some will keep you wondering if you should lay up or not.

Free ranges balls and a practice bunker definitely make this course worth the money. The restroom facility is also very nice with full showers.

Narrow but fair

We teed off in light rain on a Thursday afternoon. The pace of play was okay as we finished our round in a little bit more than 4 hours. A few of our friends warned us that the course it tight, however it was not as narrow as I thought. Greens were in fairly good shape and ran slow mostly due to the rain. The fairways need some work. We scored a good deal, I would not pay the $74 weekend rate nor the $54 weekday rate. There are other courses I would play before this one.

Decent and fun course

Played on a Sat morning at 7:15. Round took 4:20. Players have the option to walk as well. The course was in fairly decent shape for a municipal. Layout was fairly fun as there were several doglegs a couple of elevation changes. Water came into play for at least 5 holes. Greens and greenside bunkers were also in pretty good shape as well.

I would play here again.

Challenging and fun course

We teed off at 7:45 on a Sunday morning during their aerification special for $25. That in itself made it worth the money even though the greens were still healing from being punched the previous Monday. Two 200+ yard par 3 coupled with several uneven lies from the fairways make this course challenging. Number 14 is rated one of the toughest par 4 holes in San Diego. No holes are back to back so if you miss too far left or right you will be OB. Greens were recently punched so I can't comment on the how true the ball roles, however several greens are multiple tiered.

I will still be willing to pay $50 during the weekend if the we didn't have the aerification special.

Fairways need some work

I have played this course several times throughout the years and normally it has always been in fantastic shape. For this visit, the fairways were probably the worst shape I have ever seen. There were many bare spots. The greens and the tee boxes were in pretty good shape. I was a bit embarrassed bad because we invited two friends to go on a "nice" course and paid $59 to play on Sunday morning (we typically like to pay ~$40 - $45 per round at other courses) and the course was in worst shape than other courses that have lower green fees.

The fairways for the most part are ridiculously wide which makes it perfect for hookers and slicers. The greens rolled fairly true.

Outstanding course with great views

This is one of my favorite courses in San Diego. Similar to Riverwalk, there are three unique 9-hole courses. We played the Ranch/Canyon combination this time and the round took 4.5 hours for Saturday morning. The Ranch course is challenging in that there are several forced carries off the tee. Ranch #3 has one of the most picturesque views where you tee off from an elevated tee. The Canyon course has several elevation changes and challenging greens. You definitely want to be below the hole if possible. The width of the fairways are pretty generous for both courses, but if you do stray too far from the fairways you will be in trouble or in a hazard.

This is definitely a must play for people who want to play golf in San Diego. It is a bit pricey, however it is definitely worth it.
