I used to play San Dimas Canyon all the time in the 90’s, but hadn’t played it in 20 year after moving out of state. It was exactly the same challenging but fair, target-golf course I remembered, but in much better condition. Greens were well kept and fast. Guys in the shop were very friendly. Only knock... they sell Foot-Joy merch but for some strange reason don’t put the SDC course logo on it? On all the other brands of shirts/jackets, etc. Would have bought an FJ polo to rep a favorite SoCal course back in North Carolina, but not to be...

I know it’s not exactly Charlotte, as the course is out in Marshville on the far side of Union County, but it’s absolutely worth the drive. Probably has the most elevation changes at any course in the area. Fun layout with challenging holes and good greens. Nice staff with a small but decent pro shop. If you within an hour you’ve got to try Eagle Chase.

Despite being nearly an hour away, I’ll definitely be back very soon. Outstanding layout, great condition and a fair price.

This was my first time playing Old Sycamore in a couple years as it’s a nice track and remember having a good time in the past. Bottom line, after this experience, it will be a few more years before I bother to try it again. Grabbed a hot deal for a good price, but unfortunately we were the first group off after a corporate best ball tournament. The grumpy starter didn’t even greet us before saying something like it’s going to be a really long round today... and he was right. Saw him a couple more times on the front nine but he obviously wasn’t even trying to speed up play. Waited on literally every shot, as the four hacks in front, grinded over bogey putts. Greens was in awful shape... peppered with ball marks.

Then for some stupid reason, the beverage cart who we saw at least 5 times, was only out to serve the tournament. Couldn’t even take a cash payment for a couple of beers! After our 5+ hour round, went back into the pro shop to say something and of course it was closed already. Awful experience. Won’t be back anytime soon regardless of the hot deal price.

If you can handle the 90 minute drive from Charlotte this is one of the best courses around. Great place for golf buddy trip as they do have cabins to rent. Course is in fantastic condition for the price. Challenging layout with nice greens. If it were closer I played all the time, but then it wouldn’t be a hidden gem it is. Will be back soon.

Outstanding course. Challenging layout. 5+ Teebox options to fit all golfers. Playing from the tips is an absolute beast! Will definitely be back soon.
