Western North Carolina Shining Star

Mountaintop provides a golf experience that is unforgettable. From the moment you arrive the staff wants to make sure you, the player has a memorable day. When I arrived, I was shown the driving range where upbeat/rock music was playing on the speakers. Club Professionals, lead by Director of Golf Micah Hicks were on the range to help with any free instruction. The practice facility is large and better than most I see on the PGA Tour. The Tom Fazio design takes advantage of the high elevation with stunning yet challenging holes. It's not a very difficult layout but it's far from a pushover. The greens were VERY GOOD. They were fast with a true roll. Any missed putt is the players fault, not the condition of the green. To enhance the experience there are comfort stations on the course that has everything to make a round fantastic like sandwiches, salads, energy bars, candy and beverages. You just take what you want. After the round you can enjoy the rustic elegance of the clubhouse and restaurant. I racked my brain after playing Mountaintop to find something critical of this Club. I can honestly say, there is nothing I could think of. This is one of the best courses and experiences I've had as a player and I highly recommend Mountaintop if you get the opportunity.

A Gem in the Mountains of North Carolina

Highlands Country Club is a beautiful and challenging course set against a rolling backdrop of mountains. The course is fantastic for all levels. It's not a very long course but it's one that requires control of your golf ball because there are plenty of old trees and hazards in the way. There is also nice elevation change on many holes. The condition of the course is very good but the strength is the putting surfaces. They are very true and fast with plenty of movement to challenge even the best. Besides a great layout, Highlands has plenty of history. Highlands CC was Bobby Jones retreat from Atlanta while working for Coca-Cola. You see plenty of Jones memorabilia throughout the club including a full set of clubs that was featured in a Sports Illustrated article. If you are looking for a fun test of golf with nostalgia and a great staff to compliment your experience, Highlands Country Club is for you.
