Ed Oliver Golf Club
Played On 07/18/2022Narrow fairways, tough rough
Fairways are rarely more than 20 yards wide with thick rough all around. Driving accuracy is a premium.
Like many public, and some private, courses I’ve played lately, too many ball marks on greens that are not fixed. Do people not carry a divot fixer when playing?
Pro shop & other staff were very friendly.
I’ve played the course periodically over the last 25 years or so. The improvements made have really made playing Oliver more interesting. Wider fairways in some areas would make it even better.
Broad Run Golfer's Club
Played On 07/11/2022Worth the wait
Waited a long time to play Broad Run, the price & my handicap are not really a great match. It was well worth the fees and I will be going back.
First time at the course , so we moved up a set of tees to the hybrid yellow/white to make the course play a little easier.
Routing on Monday was a little odd, we started play on 11; played through 18, then 10 & finished on front 9.. it was a difficult way to play but didn’t take away from a great experience.
Broad Run is the best public course I’ve played in southeastern PA.
It’s a 20 minute drive for me and will be in my regular rotation going forward.
I may even look into their unlimited play “membership”
The Club at Shannondell
Played On 05/18/2022Good Value
For less than $30 to walk on a Wednesday morning, the course is a good value. Early as possible tee time, 7:10 and played in less 3 hours.
The course is very walkable with only long green to tee from 9 to 10.
I play here 4-5 times a year.
After heavy rain the previous night, some areas don’t drain particularly well. But, didn’t really effect play.
Jeffersonville Golf Club
Played On 08/07/2020Ross gem
Almost every hole is perfect golf hole. The par 3s are fun & challenging. The rebuilt 2nd green is fantastic. The course was a lush green everywhere (except for one fairway), the greens rolled perfectly, and the rough punished poor shots.
A great day on a classic Donald Ross layout.
Paxon Hollow Golf Club
Played On 06/15/2020good day w/ a good 4some
Paxon Hollow is the closest public course to my house, it is a 4 minute drive. In the past, I have been reluctant to take advantage of that and have driven farther to play a round.
This year, I've played PH twice and both times it's been a good day out on the course.
The limited number of tee times and closed range have actually helped the playing experience. Last year, played the course and found many holes littered with stray golf balls which made it difficult to find & identify the ball you just hit.
The course has some tricky short par 4s and a couple of legitimate par 5s which require three good shots and a solid putt or two, The opening holes are two birdie opportunities with an easily reached par 4 to start and a short par 3 for the second. After the challenging par 5 third, holes 4 & 5 give you two more chances to score.
The finishing hole is a par 5 with a large tree about 180 yds. from the white tees down the left side, a creek running along side on the left and trees lining the right. The creek crosses the fairway at about 225 and the hole doglegs left to an uphill finish. Some say it is the toughest finishing hole in the area.
The course gets a lot of play and often can be slow. It is a favorite course of local younger players starting out and older players who don't want to drive far to play.
Unfortunately, with Covid-19 restrictions, they do not allow single players to book tee times right now. If they did, I would play here more often.
Ingleside Golf Club
Played On 06/24/2019Scheduled 18; played 27
Played solo round- tees off 25 minutes early; finished in less than 3 hours. Had some time to kill, so played an extra 9 for $15 (could have played all 18 again, but had to get home.
First of all, if you’re looking for a manicured, championship type course; this is not that course. It’s a fun & at times challenging course. I would recommend it for beginners just getting used to 18 holes and for mid to high handicappers looking for a place to score well.
First time through, I didn’t really know the layout and hit some I’ll advised drives. Second time around on the front, nearly drove the green with a 3 wood. Never really got used to the really slow greens and had way too many putts to score as well as I could have.
The staff from the time you drive up until you leave the course are very courteous and friendly.
The pro shop is stocked with everything anyone needs for a round, and even has a simulator. The range looked good but I did not use it. Noticed a practice area near the fifth tee.. Both times through there were people using it.
The course had a special membership plan available until today. Seriously considered buying in, but the course is 30-40 minutes from home, so I’m not sure I would be able to take advantage of it.
Overall, the course plays fair and can help any player hone their skills at a very fair rate
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the teams in charge so they know their hard work is paying off. Thanks for visiting Ingleside. We hope to see you again in the future.
Delcastle Golf Course
Played On 08/03/2018GREAT ROUND, low score of the year
great experience from check in through post round lunch. Played in less than 4 hours, course in great shape except for a couple of tee boxes and small area in front of 18th green.
First time playing Delcastle since the late 90s and it was worth the trip. Of the three Wilmington courses, Oliver and Rock Manor are the others, I enjoy the layout of Delcastle the best. The course is moderate to easy for a mid to high handicap golfer. There is room to spray the ball around without major penalty. That makes the round much less frustrating for a 23 handicap like me.
Delcastle will be back in my regular rotation of courses and I look forward getting back there ASAP
Chisel Creek Golf Club
Played On 06/19/2018Disappointed
I read the mixed reviews of Chisel Creek prior to booking a round, but I always like to give the course the benefit of the doubt, so I went ahead with booking.
I’ve played quite a few courses over the last few years, and unfortunately, CC was among the worst I’ve ever played. Weeds in the fairways, poor bunker conditions, bumpy and in some cases dead grass greens.
The layout of the course would be enjoyable and probably was when the course was in better condition.
I was hoping CC could be a moderately priced gem of a course that I could add to my regular rotation of courses for the summer.
On a positive note, the staff was friendly and helpful and that counts for a lot. Upon arrival I was greeted and informed of layout of course.
I was told the course is for sale and I hope that someone sees the property and layout for the gem it could be and decides to put the money &’effort into restoring it.
Ed Oliver Golf Club
Played On 06/04/2018course improved
I've played Ed Oliver GC quite a lot over the years. Over the last three years, the course has made many improvements to get it back to being a quality round. While there is still work to be done, the course overall looked better Monday than it has in years. It seems the management is making an effort to giving players a solid experience for the money. It is convenient to my house and I enjoy a round at Oliver much more than at its partner course - Rock Manor, which about three or four miles closer to me.
We're so glad to hear you enjoyed your last round with us, u756393260! We truly value your feedback and look forward to seeing you again soon.
