Great Golf Course - Very Busy and Can Be Slow

My wife and I (75) played River Run 5 times in the last 3 weeks when on vacation from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.. The course is good value compared to other surrounding courses and that is why we returned rather than seeking out alternatives. Many positive features of this golf course, tee boxes, fairways, rough and greens are in very good condition. The large Greens are tough to putt as there are some good slopes to contend with and although I considered myself a good putter I had more than my share of 3 putts. On the last day my wife had 6 one putts to show me it can be done. There are no houses on the course and lots of trees between the few adjoining fairways so no issues with stray balls. There are a few water hazards but they are well marked. You can lose a few balls on errant tee shots especially along the Braden River. The Yamaha gas golf carts are first rate but no GPS. Yardage markers are flush in the centre of the fairway and difficult to see if you are near the edge of the fairway or in the rough. The painted yardage stripes on the cart path are hard to see and should be repainted. There are no palm trees or stakes at 150 yards like many other Florida courses.

There are a few negatives to report. Pace of play is slow as the course is fully booked in prime season. We had 2 rounds of 4 hrs - 50 min, one at 4:40, one at 4:20 and one at 4 hours even. Twice we played by ourselves. We met some great people on the 3 days we played with others, 2 from Switzerland, 2 from Maine and 2 from Michigan. Rangers were few and far, most days we never saw a Marshall/Ranger.

Last Saturday my wife used the Porta-Potty conveniently placed at #8. She said it was filthy and had no toilet paper. She reported that at the turn. The following day on Sunday she again reported that to a guy cleaning up outside the clubhouse entrance and he said it was the contractor’s responsibility not his. My wife told the clubhouse staff about the situation and asked whether she could have a couple of rolls of TP to take out and the Clubhouse person graciously gave my wife a couple. When we stopped at #8 my wife said there was still no TP and the toilet was still filthy but she left the TP for others to use.

River Run is a great course to play, well conditioned, very fair and many interesting holes, even those 2 tricky 90 degree doglegs. The course is very scenic and quiet and we will gladly return again.

Great Value for High Quality Golf Course in Peak Season

My wife and I (75 yrs) played River Run for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed the course. Friendly welcome by Pro Shop and Starter. Yamaha gas carts were in great condition. Practice putting area and hitting cage prior to first hole. The Starter tells you which cart you are playing with and which carts you are to follow. The Starter is not at the first tee but rather stationed where carts are loaded.

We teed off 10 minutes late at 12:30 p.m. as it was a busy day. It took us 4 hrs 50 minutes to play and on one hole there were 4-5 groups on that hole. No Ranger to be seen and I asked afterwards and they advised it was a very busy day and it seems they do not use a Ranger.

The course was in superb condition, tees, rough, fairway, bunkers and Green’s were a 10 for sure. There are no houses on the course and each hole is well separated from the others. The yardage markers are not easily visible as they are flat in the fairways, no stakes. The holes are colour coded by location. No GPS in carts. There are numerous ponds but they are not really in play unreasonably. There are a couple of tight driving holes off the tee.The course is very scenic with beautiful trees throughout.

I played the whites and my wife the reds as did the other couple from Switzerland. In my opinion the reds were not sufficiently far enough forward on several holes but my wife certainly enjoyed the course and we have booked additional tee times over the next few weeks while we are in Florida.I had a tough time putting and I am normally a very good putter but the quick speed and slope got the best of me on too many of the greens.

This is a Manatee County municipal course and it is certainly a high quality golf course and well run. I strongly recommend playing here for the great $$ value in peak season.

River Edge is in Great Shape

We always enjoy River Edge, 9 great holes in such a scenic and peaceful setting. Fairways are lush and divots being repaired. Green’s are a bit slow but understandable given the slopes and some tough pin positions. Tee boxes are bit rough in spots but still better than other courses that we have played. We played at 12 noon and it was a 2 hour 25 minute round as it was a busy Sunday. They had to bring out a pull cart for us but we got it on #2 so appreciated their effort. Offered to pay at end of round and the staff said it was a freebie. Due to Covid, no bunker rakes so place the ball to suit yourself.

This course has many challenging holes and some forced carries over marshes and several hard to get to greens as you don’t want to be long or off line. They offer a good deal on 20 or 50 play cards good for one year. My wife and I love this course and right across King Street is Costco and many other stores, services so makes an easy multi-stop outing right in the City of Kitchener.

A Perfect Day of Golf

My wife and I (72) both played Boca Raton Municipal GC and enjoyed every minute. Course was in great conditions and the greens were exceptional, fast and smooth but not crazy difficult. SkyLink GPS units in each cart which was very helpful. 3 of us played in exactly 4 hours, waiting a few minutes on each hole but entirely satisfactory as course was busy. Started right on time. Player’s Assistant (Ranger) was out on course and very visible. Great value, certainly well worth playing again and recommended. The red tees should be moved further forward in our opinion. I played Green and my wife Red. I never lost a ball which is unusual but this course is wide and lost balls will be rare except a few water hazards are in play.

Excellent Course - Wide Fairways and Rough - Perfect Condition - Fast Pace

Starter let us out 20 minutes early and a young man from Long Island joined us. He played from blacks, me from green tees and my wife the reds. We are 72 and golf wherever we travel to. 4 guys ahead and we never waited once and we left 4 some behind us and we never saw them. Played in 3 hours 15 minutes. Turf was perfect everywhere. Green’s are very big and fast but still made a few one putts. Chipping is the key here. You won’t lose any balls here as it is wide open. Only criticism would be that forward red tees should be further forward on many tees for super seniors or women. My wife really enjoyed the course as she hits in straight.

Totally perfect golf day on a wonderful course. There are no really spectacular holes and water rarely comes into play. Trees on course are very old and stately. Cart paths need a little repair here and there but still very enjoyable. We will definitely return as it suited us perfectly. Price was great too.

Lake Worth GC in Great Condition

We play Lake Worth every November as our timeshare is close by on the Intercoastal. We found the course to be in excellent condition. The turf was green and firm even after recent rains. Bunkers were well groomed too. We played as a 2-some and easily played in 3.5 hours. Course runs along Intercoastal which is a pleasant experience. Naturally the course is flat but large trees give course a nice character. Greens were in good condition although blotchy in spots.

This is a great course for seniors and many were walking as the greens are close to next tee. We will play again but played Atlantis 2 days later and really enjoyed our round there so may split our golf outings. Given up on the Palm Beach Par 3 as it is now too expensive.

Big Improvements at Kissimmee Bay

My wife and I visit Kissimmee twice a year for 2 weeks and we have been playing Kissimmee Bay for 30 years. A few years ago we wondered if Kissimmee Bay was going to survive as conditions were sub standard and the volume of play was down significantly.

This past year has seen significant improvements, especially the greens which have been all redone and are in superb condition. All the bunkers are being raked every day and irrigation is done daily. The only weak spot are the tee blocks on a few holes which are bare but they are reseeding and hopefully the tees will match the rest of the course.

This is a terrific layout, we particularly like the front 9 with great first and ninth par 5’s. We generally play in the off-season in April and November and later in the day, this last week we had 4 rounds as a 2-Some in 3 hours 20 minutes at a leisurely pace. Great value if you choose your times.

Congratulations to the new owners for their investment in Kissimmee Bay. It is tough having their companion club, Remington only a short distance away as there is only so much business in this area.

Good Course for the Price

My wife and I (71 years) played Forest Oaks for the first time. We were somewhat anxious considering some of the previous reviews. We teed off about 10 minutes ahead of our 12:45 Hot Deal tee time as a twosome as the other twosome were not ready. The 3-Some Ahead were kind enough to let us play through at 10 and we eventually caught up to a slow 3 some on last few holes but still finished in 3 hours.

The fairways and rough were in good condition and the greens were very good. The greens are on the small side and are all raised. They are fairly soft but quick and great to putt on. There are not a lot of traps and you can chip on from the front. We were only in 2 traps. Pay attention to the course map as water lurks on most holes and is not always obvious. Lots of run on the fairways so be careful. Tee boxes were quite satisfactory. Our gas cart was okay but gave out a squeal each time we accelerated from a stop.

6 par 3’s and half of them are long 170 yards so par is tough. Fairways are narrow but not unreasonablyso. Lots of beautiful trees and Course was well kept. Course winds through a residential area. Some very interesting holes for sure. This is not a Course for big hitters who spray the ball around.

We were met a Bag Drop and he loaded our bags on cart and did the same when we finished, Club House is from 50 years ago but it works (A frame style). My wife was not impressed with toilet facilities. Ice and cold water available next to cart shed for #1 and #10.

All in all a very pleasant day and we are playing again tomorrow and we are looking forward to it. We golf a great deal when we visit Florida and a round for $25 each with cart is welcome. Courses like Forest Oaks deserve the business when they invest in the course as they appear to be doing.

River Edge is a Gem in Kitchener

My wife and I (70 years) are avid golfers and have played many courses in Ontario, Tennessee, Florida and Myrtle Beach. River Edge is one of our favourites and is a real gem along the Grand River in the City of Kitchener, just off King Street and close to Highway 401.

It is a fantastic 9 hole layout that has many interesting holes. Holes are well separated and it is a perfect natural setting along the river. Course conditions in early May were superb, the tees, rough, fairways and greens were excellent. The only minor issue was downed branches and twigs as a result of a major windstorm last week. There were 5 different staff working on bunkers, mowing, etc. during our visit. Pleasant reception at Pro Shop and again with the Starter.

We had a cart on the GolfNow Hot Deal but the Course is easily walked. On a beautiful May mid-day the course was very quiet, nobody behind us and we only saw a group ahead on #9. We played easily well under 2 hours.

We highly recommend patronizing River Edge, especially for those that don’t want to take 6 hours driving and playing a full 18 holes.

Excellent Course and Great Value

My wife and I (70 yrs) live in Downtown Kitchener and booked Savannah Links on a GolfNow Hot Deal. First time playing there. Excellent value with cart included.
The course was in excellent condition after the winter, tees, rough, fairways and greens were near perfect. Lots of water so make sure to check back of scorecard to learn where some hidden ponds are located. I hit what I thought were some great shots only to be shocked as I crested the hill to see a pond where I presumed a fairway would be. There are one or two quirky holes but interesting nevertheless. 6 par 3’s. Number 18 is one tough hole.
Very friendly reception at Pro Shop and Starter let us go early and there was no one ahead of us for entire 18 holes. A walking single playing behind us did just catch us at 18. We played in 3 hours and 15 minutes and enjoyed every minute.
A very interesting century old stone house wall on one hole that I got behind and had to chip out.
Check the course website as there is a section of Cheddar Creek Road Closed due to road construction between Myers and Waynco. We turned left off Water Street at Waynco and accessed course easily that way although a section of Waynco is gravel.
Overall a great round of golf on a superb course on a perfect afternoon of weather. We will certainly return.

Kissimmee Bay Has Improved

My wife and I visit Kissimmee in March and November every year. We have been playing Kissimmee Bay for 25 years.

The course has improved since March, tees are much better, the fairways have been over seeded and the new grass is coming in very nicely, probably thanks to recent wet weather. Bunkers were very well raked which is a noticeable improvement. Greens are also noticeably better than they were in March. Gas carts are much more reliable than previous electric carts.

We played on a beautiful Sunday afternoon teeing off at 11:52 Using GolfNow. Course was virtually empty and we played in 3 hours 10 minutes which is very enjoyable.

As mentioned in my previous review, this is an interesting course with plenty of water, huge trees and lots of wildlife including alligators. There are some great golf holes here, particularly #1 and #9.

They have recently added Silver tees which I played and enjoyed very much. Great improvement. My wife plays the Reds and enjoys the course as she hits them straight.

They need a sign to direct newcomers to #10 tee, we are frequently helping people get to that tee.

I rate this 4 * due to great price, speed of play & quality of course. There are a few rough edges but for the price it is very good value especially if you are playing 3-4 times a week like we do.

Great Value for a Very Enjoyable Golf Fourse

My wife, son, daughter-in-law played Lake Worth G. C. and enjoyed every minute. Pleasant welcome at bag drop where Attendant removed bags and loaded cart. Excellent reception in Pro Shop and as we were paid in full on GolfNow I signed for carts and Starter said we’re okay to head to first tee. Cart path only due to wet turf. Twosome ahead of us quit after 2 holes likely due to poor walking capability of one of their players. We played blue, green and red tees for ladies. Played in 4 hours on the nose which was excellent given cart paths only and lots of plugged balls which were difficult to find.

Front nine was wet but still playable. All the traps were raked perfectly, much better than many higher end courses. Very few ball marks on Large and well sloped greens. Tees and fairways in very good condition but wet so the odd heavy shot was to be expected. I had way too many 3 putts due to large greens and some severe slopes.

Lots of interesting holes and plenty of ponds, especially on front 9. Second nine was much drier. All four of us were impressed with the course, even my son who is a big hitter. We are heading back tomorrow, great value at $90 for 4 with carts.

There has been numerous huge trees cut down and it is a shame the stumps are left but I understand the removal and restoration cost would be huge. Santiago was waiting for us as we finished 18 and cleaned our clubs and put them in the trunk. Proud to say I parred 18 with a short one putt. The final hole is #1 handicap hole.

Only 1 mile from our condo so very convenient. Palm Beach Par 3 is now way too expensive, why pay twice as much for much less of a full golf experience. Lake Worth Golf Course is a jewel and deserves your support. Cheap beer too!

Somewhat Pleasant Surprise

My wife and I remember playing Hunters Creek about 10 years ago and it was enjoyable then as the course was in reasonably good condition. I booked the GolfNow Hot Deal before reading the reviews which was really upsetting once I saw the very high percentage of very negative reviews from the last few months.

We waited on #10 to tee off in a line of 3 groups or so. The group 2 ahead of us looked to be new golfers as there was a lot of lessons on the tee before some very poor drives. The 3 guys ahead of us were obviously very upset about their bad luck. Fortunately for us a single guy from MA joined us and I said I think we are looking at a 5 hour round minimum.

Most reviewers said the course was in terrible shape, especially tees, greens and traps. It was obvious that the greens were not in good shape as there was a lot of sand on them, especially around edges, which is confusing from 150 yards out. They were puttable but barely? We found the tees quite acceptable from the whites. The traps were acceptable as well. The fairways were dry and burned out but easy to hit off and lots of roll.

My wife played the forward Reds which were a surprising 5,900 yards. The tips run 7,450 yards. This course needs to develop another set of forward tees, not acceptable in this day of playing forward.

My wife said the on course washroom was terrible as did our playing partner.

The slow group must have dropped out after 9 which was indeed fortunate although we skipped a par 3 on front side to pass a slow group. We finished in 4 hours.

We enjoyed our day but the greens will spoil the day if you are serious about scoring, almost a 2-putt necessity.

For the price we paid we were not disappointed and that is why I selected Yes to 'Recommend to a Friend' but No if paying $30 or more.

The layout is not that interesting though as most holes are straightaway, only one dogleg I remember but I could be wrong.

The saving grace is that they seem to be working at improving the course and of course the prolonged drought has not helped.

Needs Another Set of Forward Tees But A Great Course Nevertheless

My wife and I played this Johnny Miller designed golf course when it first opened about 10+ years ago and we played it twice in November 2016.

It is a beautifully conditioned golf course and the rates were excellent in late November and we used GolfNow both times.

There are 5 sets of tees from Miller at 7,417 to Jade at 5,408.

In our opinion they need another set of more forward tees. When the wind blows, and even when it doesn't there are some long holes for ladies or older men. For example on the #8 & #16 Par 5's the Jade tees play at 422 & 419, only 30-35 yards ahead of Golds. Nevertheless my wife enjoys the course as she hits it straight and is rarely in trouble.

We were playing at in Tennessee at Fairfield Glade's 5 courses and they have proper forward tees.

My wife said the on-course Ladie's Washroom was deplorable on both days.

They recently redid all the greens and they are very large and quick and in beautiful condition. Fairways are wide and rough is not penalizing at all. We prefer front 9 due to larger trees and layout. Ez-Go electric carts are really smooth and powerful. The traps are fairly soft sand but well maintained. As mentioned removing 25 traps was an excellent idea.

They lift out your bags at Drop Off and clean them after. Cart service on course. They give you 2 bottles of cold water in each cart.

If you haven't been there before there really isn't good signing on 192 as the course shop is set well back in the village centre on Five Oaks Blvd. use you GPS or Google Maps before you head out.
