Green Knoll Golf Course
Played On 06/21/2014Green Knoll - A good value/friendly staff
Green Knoll is a relatively open and flat course with a few tight holes. The fairways, tee boxes and greens were is good condition.
While we road in carts, the couse definately looks walkable.
Three pluses:
1. A good value for the money
2. Friendly staff
3. Good overall layout with some memorable holes.
Areas of improvement:
1. A little slow on the pace of play. We finshed our round in just less the 5 hours but not too bad for a Saturday.
2. Some of the sand traps could use some sand
3. Greens were a little slow (but not too bad)
Blair Academy Golf Course
Played On 06/07/2014Excellent Layout and fun to play
I played Blair Academy, a challenging 9 hole golf course, on a somewhat windy June afternoon. The course has a great layout (2 par 5's, 4 par 4's and 3 par 3's) smallish greens, holes with tight to very tight fairways, changes in elevation and some blind shots. I walked the course and found it easy to get around but when walking, one needs to factor in some extra distance b/w the 4 green and the 5th tee box, 6th green and the 7th tee Box and the 7th green and the 8th tee box. The course finishes up near the athletic fields so there is fun reminder of being on the Blair Campus.
Playing it twice was a pleasure.
The staff is very friendly and everyone who I ran into was welcoming.
On the constructive side, some of the fairways were a little treadbare in spots, the grass a little patchy in some spots around the green and sand traps did not have any "fresh" sand. A putting green may also be a suggested improvement. Saying that, the greens ran true and for the money Blair represents a value play. I am a 18 index and I shot a 96 from the white tees (51 / 45 (w/ two lost balls when I played the 9th hole on my first 9). I would definately play it again.
