Play at your own risk

The note above writing reviews says to please be mindful of their efforts as you write reviews during the coronavirus pandemic. They get 1 star.

Arriving at the first time this morning, the Starter wanted to move my bag to another single player's cart. Being denied the option to walk instead of riding with a player I do not know, he called the bag drop to bring a cart with a divider. Given the proximity and length of time sitting next to a person I do not know and  the makeshift divider made of a plastic film hung with bungee cords, I still did not feel safe sharing a cart so I returned to the proshop.

At the proshop I found out that walking is not permitted and was also denied another request to pay a rider fee to take my own cart. During this pandemic and no other options offered, I asked for a refund.

Fun course

Haven't played in a few years and it was nice to return to see the course in good shape. Tee boxes, greens, and greenside bunkers were in good shape. Given that there was no raking due to Covid-19, sand was fluffy. Can't say enough about the back nine. If I could, I would play that twice. I'd give the course 3.5 stars.

When I checked-in, I requested my own cart since I was a single and wanted to social distance myself from whomever I was going to be paired with. If there weren't enough carts, I had the choice to ride with someone or walk. I opted to walk. Luckily I was not paired with anyone else but the seriousness of social distancing didn't seem important.

Fun course but slow play

Very good course and a lot of fun to play. Only hiccup was the slow pace. Took almost 5hrs to play.

Windy and quick

You can always count on a breeze playing here but it was a steady 15+ mph, which made it very challenging to play. The greens were like glass. Best I've seen playing here over the years. New clubhouse is really. Good food and quick service. Only issue is pace of play. You see the marshall twice a side and tell them the speed issue and they do nothing about it. When you wait on every tee box and know you can play faster makes the round seem much longer.

Continue the comeback

Haven't played here in years due to poor conditions. The last time I played it was almost unplayable. The greens were like velcro and brown patches everywhere. I heard it was under new management and that conditions are getting better so I thought I'd give it a shot. They also offer the GolfBoard and that was a major factor. Saw a bunch of maintenance guys working on the course so conditions are getting better. Greens are in good condition. Slow but true. Fairways are good and hardly any brown patches. Tee boxes are green again, although some tee boxes are overgrown with St Augustine. Old front is now the new back 9. That old frontside is one of the best layouts in the area. Don't think it's worth the $80 yet but I hope they continue to revive this fun track.

It was my first time on a GolfBoard. It definitely makes golf more fun. It's great to hop-off next to the tee box and greens, and it speeds up play! Only thing missing is shade. They charge $5 extra for the round.

Fun course

Driving to the course reminded me of Scottsdale. Lots of green with lots of dirt. Course is very new and nicely maintained. Greens rolled true and were not slow. Fairways are generous on most holes but the architect makes good use of the 6700 yards by strategically placing bunkers around 250-270 yards from the tips. There are very few obstructions so the wind can is a factor on most shots. Only down side players do not fix divots on the greens. Would definitely play again.

Florida style golf

I was paired with players that have played the course which made it more manageable. The course meanders through the swamp and river making it a true Florida experience. A number of the holes are nicely framed from tee to green so knowing where to land the ball is crucial. It definitely helps to have a laser because it seemed like the yardage from my S1 watch was short. Bugs are annoying on a couple holes on the back which distracts from a pretty view of the river. As for conditioning, fairways were chewed up. Lots of divots, sand, and different types of grass. Greens were very receptive and weren't as painfully as slow as Legacy. If course was in better condition it would be a real gem.

Course needs some TLC

Course design is challenging. Greens and landing areas are placed close to hazards. First 5 and every other hole after are a joy to play. Overall the course conditioning has seen better days. Putting on the greens was like Velcro. So slow. Would recommend to play it once if you can find a deal.

Course will challenge you mentally

Not sure if I really like this course or really dislike it. Rounding rating to 4 stars. Having prior knowledge of layout will help Immensely. Placement of back tees and placement of trees/vegetation makes the fairways look 10yards wide. Blind landing areas will make you go through a sleeve of balls pretty quick. Small greens require precise irons although not much penalty if missed. Greens were also very grainy and a few were browning and inconsistent with speed. A few of the back tees were not level and not much grass. Better conditioning would make this course play even tougher.

Teed off pretty close to schedule. They have a nice practice facility but was extremely crowded. I was not able to get a spot at the practice range. Seems like a far drive from Sarasota and an interesting course to try.

Excellent conditions

I've seen the course at its low points and from tee to green the conditions were the best I've seen. It was the first time I've played it since they were closed for renovations. Pro told me most of the renovations were clearing out most of the brush around the course and redoing the bunkers. The funny thing is the overgrown brush did give it some character and it definitely has a different feel but still an enjoyable course from the tips. Be careful walking to the back tee on 7. There was a nice size gator ready to pounce on the backside of the tee box.

Top public course in the area

Played sanctuary/estuary. Greens were in private course condition. Posted sign read greens running 10.6. Fairways are generous and forgiving. Back tees were not open which makes the course play much easier. I find legacy to be a more challenging course but the trade off are the Velcro greens.
