Seaford Head Golf Club
Played On 11/13/2019Fabulous!!
I chose to join Seaford Head over the far more expensive Seaford Golf Club simply because I love this course! There are maybe a couple of fairly featureless holes but overall it is a varied and challenging course that is in the main fairly forgiving for less than arrow straight tee shots. The eighteenth is an absolutely stunning hole although there are plenty of others with marvellous views across The South Downs, The Seven Sisters and along the coast - Portsmouth and The Isle of Wight are clearly visible most days and they are sixty miles away! The course is rarely closed as it drains so well being on top of the chalk cliffs and is kept in marvellous condition by the green staff. The greens themselves are fantastic, even during the horribly wet conditions of the last couple of months there have only been a few days where temporary greens have been necessary. It can be very windy at times and there are a couple of fairly sharp climbs, but it really isn't as bad as it may look from a distance....anyway, it's all worth it to get to the elevated eighteenth tee.....once played, never forgotten...it really is stunning.
Fraser the resident pro is very welcoming and helpful, and the clubhouse (The View restaurant) is equally welcoming with a good range of fare, 'good pub food' opposed to fine dining.
You really won't regret it.....
And oh, that eighteenth....
Seaford Golf Club

Seaford he is blessed with two fine golf courses. This course is of a downland nature and enjoys beautiful views across the South Downs and English Channel. it is fairly challenging, particularly when the wind blows. Many balls are lost from slightly wayward tee shots as the rough is quite punishing on many holes. The final three holes are absolute gems, as is the first. While playing the course five times in the last three weeks we found the condition variable. In fairness the greens have obviously been receiving a lot of maintenance and played a lot better than they looked. As mentioned elsewhere some of the bunkers could do with more sand. The pro shop is excellent , with a warm and helpful welcome although we were not members.
This course is most certainly worth a visit and I would strongly suggest those playing its for the first time buy a course guide in the pro shop as there are quite a few holes where you need to know what you can't see!.
