Bear's Best Atlanta
Played On 03/19/2020Great place to escape the Virus!
We have played Bears Best numerous times over the years. It is always in decent shape. Given the tremendous amount of rain we have had this winter, it is still in pretty good shape! Most of the tee boxes seem worn and sparse, but will probably improve as it warms up. The fairways are in great shape with only a few random weeds. The greens are really good, but rolled slower than expected, which based on my score, I never really adjusted to :(. The staff was very friendly, and they are doing so many things to make it safe - wiping down carts after each round, providing wipes to wipe down more if you want to, washing practice balls w/soap, asking players to not remove flag sticks, wiping down pens and desk area in pro shop regularly, etc. One action we hope they continue even after necessary is inverting the ball cup on each hole. It was really neat just picking your ball up next to the flag instead of having to reach down into the sometimes damp, dirty cup to retrieve your ball! The pace of play was the best we’ve ever played at Bears Best, just around 4 hrs for a foursome! So, get outside, go have fun, in the safe environment of Bears Best!

All staff were great, from the guy who set up our clubs to the Pro Shop to the girl who helped with clubs and cart at the end! The course, however, needs some work from a female player perspective. The tee boxes were in bad shape with little to no grass. The position of the women’s tee boxes weren’t the best, either. Off to the sides, too far forward in some cases. The fairways were decent, and will be in good shape with warmer weather upon us. The greens were very good, but a little bumpy at times. Got a deal on Golf Now, so it was an ok value, but the best value for women is on Sundays direct through the course. I hope the new ownership puts some money and effort into both courses. They have potential to be really good!
Hi "dKOmaclean" Thank you for the great review. We appreciate the kind words regarding our excellent staff. Thank you for coming out and we hope to see you again this Spring!
The Country Club of Mount Dora
Played On 12/21/2017Decent course - would play again!
Having recently played a couple of really nice courses near Atlanta, Ga, I may have a little bias. The pro shop staff was friendly, but not over the top. Could have offered a little more assistance to people who had not played there before. The grill was clean and bright, and the staff warmed up quickly, although at first was a little standoffish since we weren’t “regulars”. Our sandwiches were quickly made and very good. The course was in ok shape, not as good as reviews seemed to report. The greens were bumpy, quite a few unrepaired ball marks, but happily weeds were almost nonexistent. The sand traps, of which I landed in quite a few, had heavy sand and most of them had not been raked either by the Club or earlier golfers. While there is water on almost every hole, it only comes into play on 2-3, unless you hit extreme slices or hooks. The pace of play was great! Our twosome played in just over 3 1/2 hours, never having to wait to hit, and never feeling pushed from behind. Overall good experience, just nothing exceptional that would make it a “5”. We would go back based on price and pace of play alone!
Outstanding! Thank you for your kind words. We're so glad that you enjoyed your round and that you felt safe playing our course. We hope to see you again at the course very soon for another 5-star experience. Thanks for choosing Bear's Best Atlanta.
