Harbor Links Public Golf
Played On 08/08/2023Fun course Bumpy Ride
The Greens were in fantastic shape, True rolling and moderately quick. The Tee boxes were well cared for. The fairway grass was green and thick and beautifully maintained, however driving the cart on the course was one bumpy ride. Lots and lots of dips and holes, it was like being in a huge meadow in its natural state. There aren’t any real cart paths on most of the holes so driving down the fairway had to be done slowly and carefully to avoid the larger bumps. But, except for it being different than most courses I play from a bumpy standpoint, I really enjoyed the round. The staff were wonderful, very warm and welcoming and they made my wife and I feel right at home and important. There is water everywhere. I’m not sure I’ve ever played a course with more water features. If you don’t hit a very well controlled ball off the tee, you are going to lose some balls. I know I did. It’s a fairly short course, but very tight and quite challenging. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed, we went an a Tuesday morning and the pace of play was fantastic.
Quarry Pines Golf Club
Played On 05/02/2023A Course with lots of muscle. Terrifyingly Beautiful
When I can get a Golf Now TeeTime deal this is one of my very favorite Tucson area golf courses. It is always well maintained and the elevation changes are staggering. I’ve never played the course from the tips, the Black Tees are plenty hard enough and challenging for my game as it is. As a group, the Par 3 holes are as tough and demanding as most recreational golfers would want. But it’s the sheer rugged beauty of the course being cut from an old rock quarry that makes it so special to me. Bring your camera the first time you play it. And extra balls. LOL
River Run Golf Course
Played On 07/30/2022Really nice public course
I love this course, it is always in great shape and the layout requires me to use a variety of clubs. I especially like the first 4 holes on the back nine, very challenging and beautiful to look at. Watch out for hole 18, it is a bear to par.
Cold Water Canyon Golf Course at Chula Vista Resort
Played On 07/26/2022A very fun course in Wisconsin Dells Area
Coldwater Canyon (Chula Vista) is a tale of two nines and both are as much fun as they are different. The front nine is short and tight as it winds through the canyon with lots of very specific types of shots required to score well. The course is always maintained well and the greens, while fairly small have lots of tricky, almost invisible breaks and slope. Pay special attention to the par 3 holes on the front nine, they can be tricky. Be straight off the tee on the par 4’s and 5’s of you’ll be losing balls in the thick trees and deep canyons.
The back nine is more links style and much more open to slightly off-line shots. But don’t relax too much, the thick native grass areas and water hazards are well placed to challenge your club selection. I really enjoy playing this course and have been for years.
Chula Vista Golf Course
Played On 10/06/2021Ground under repair everywhere I looked
This is a beautiful piece of property for a golf course and that’s where the beauty ends. The course is in terrible shape. It’s almost like the entire maintenance crew has decided to go on strike. I could barely find any fairway grass, it was all dirt and mud with huge roped off areas of “ground under repair” on every hole. My mantra of the day was, “so much wasted potential “. The course is well designed and the holes are interesting to play but it was next to impossible to find any fairway grass to hit an approach shot from. The greens had been recently punched and sanded so I know someone is trying to make things better, but this course really needs some TLC.
Eagle Crest Golf Club
Played On 02/23/2021Great Greens, spotty fairways, fun course
My title kinda says it all. The Greens were in fabulous condition. Lots of undulations and pretty darn fast and true. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially considering we are still in the middle of the California CoVid Lockdown. The Tee Boxes were well maintained, however the Fairways, especially near the Tee Boxes were in pretty bad shape. As the Fairways got closer to the Greens they were in much better shape, almost like the lack of care close to the Tee Boxes was purposeful. I guess it could have been, but the lack of Fairway Grass definitely detracts from the overall beauty of the course. It didn’t effect play very much. The water hazards are some of the most beautiful and well maintained I’ve ever seen. The course is very tight with lots of thick vegetation on both sides. The 6400 yard Tips are a way more difficult round than the length alone would indicate. Be prepared to lose some balls if you aren’t fairly straight (or at least accurate) off the Tee. We had a blast, and will definitely make the trip to play the course again.
North at Admiral Baker Golf Course
Played On 09/30/2019This is a five star admiral....
First time playing the North Course. Worth every penny of the Golf Now Green Fees. Probably the least busy San Diego course I’ve yet to play. Great layout, cart with GPS, super friendly staff, even got to start my round early since the two tee times before me were empty. Course is long and challenging, I loved it. The holes around the lake are beautiful and the scenery is breathtaking.
