Waikoloa Village Golf Club
Played On 03/29/2017Nice alternative to Resort courses
The Waikoloa Village course is actually in the town of Waikoloa Village, about 6 miles inland (mauka) from the Waikoloa Resort area. The course is really nice, is relatively easy to play (wide fairways and few hazards), and was in very good condition when I played. Greens rolled true but were a little slow, probably needed mowing. The layout was really nice and views probably would have been amazing, but unfortunately it wasn't a very clear day. Nene geese were everywhere, but not a problem. Even saw some wild turkeys. I played in the afternoon, but wind was not a factor as I had read it could be. Overall, it was a terrific round at less than half the price (I found a GolfNow Hot Deal) of the courses in the Waikoloa Resort area where I was staying, weekday afternoon play was light and I finished in 3 hours which was awesome, and I would definitely recommend the course to anyone who would just like to play a good round and doesn't need the gingerbread of the high dollar Resort courses.
Marshall Canyon Golf Club
Played On 03/10/2017Enjoyable round, tricky greens!
I played a very enjoyable round at Marshall Canyon; it's not the fanciest course you'll ever play but the course itself was fun and interesting with a nice layout. Pace of play on a Friday morning was terrific, always a big plus - finished in just over 4 hours. It seems like a course where the scoring should be easier (it's not tremendously long), but the greens have few flat areas and the pin placements were tough. I missed a few putts that nearly dropped but then rolled 8-10 feet before stopping, which is frustrating. Other than that, it's a fair course with not a lot of trouble to get into (no water), and it's in a picturesque, quiet location. Cart paths are a little bumpy, so watch out for that. The advertised wildlife on the course is no joke, either - see photos!
Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms Resort - Eisenhower Course
Played On 03/06/2017Very enjoyable round(s)!
Hadn't played Industry Hills for many years, but this was a very welcome return. The course is in really terrific shape, perhaps because we've actually had some rain in SoCal lately, and played really nicely. The greens had been aerated and sanded, but that was very prominent when I booked the tee time so I was prepared for it. Not sure if that affected the pricing, but I felt the greens fee was really reasonable for this course. The staff was exceedingly friendly and helpful, and the course was more interesting and fun than I remembered. The views were tremendous as well, which was a real surprise! The only (minor) critique I would have is that they should really take a look a their wayfinding signage around the course - they have lots on intertwining cart paths, and without knowing where I was going I made wrong turns a couple of times - signs were either missing or ambiguous. Should be an easy fix, and something which is a reasonable expectation for a course of this caliber.
Hawaii Prince Golf Club - A/B Nines
Played On 10/21/2014Great Golf Experience
Played Hawaii Prince while a Guest at a local resort hotel. Got a very nice rate via Golf Now; course was in very good condition and the pace of play was outstanding. I played the "C" and "B" nines (here is my one criticism: they could be more imaginative with the naming, this is Hawaii after all...) and finished in less than 3 1/2 hours, so I paid a little more and played the other 9 holes - aptly called the "A" nine. Started at noon and finished all 27 holes around 5:00! Staff was very nice. Just a perfect golf afternoon. Spam Musubi at the snack bar was delicious!
