Carolina Club, The
Played On 05/24/2015Fun Course...Always!
Have played this course every time I'm at the Outer Banks. With 5 par 5s and 5 par 3s, the course has a bit of everything (forced carries, island green, sand, water). The fairways are generous, so the course is quite playable. The real challenge is club selection when judging the wind, and there is always wind. Today, the course was in great shape and the greens were perfect (firm and quick). Staff is always great.
Mercer Oaks Golf Course - East Course
Played On 05/14/2015Definitely worth a try
Played the West Course. Relatively flat track with thick rough. Greens were consistently slow (poa annua). White tees are appropriate for intermediate golfers; two additional sets of tees for longer hitters.
Ravenwood Golf Course
Played On 04/18/2015Fun course with short and long holes
Course has a nice mix of hole lengths, including several short par 4s that mostly play uphill and each nine finishes with an uphill par 5 that plays into the prevailing wind. Sunny but very windy (20-30 mph) day made the course play difficult with soft fairways and firm green, affecting both ball striking and putting. The staff were friendly and professional.

Played On 09/02/2014Nice layout but inconsiderate golfers
Caught a great deal on GolfNow to give this course a try from a golf vacation in NC. Liked the layout and we had to the course to ourselves. Had read previous reviews that complained about the course conditions; while true the fairways looked like surface of the moon. it was easily playable. The greens did not look great but putting was not affected. Unrepaired divots were everywhere; since the course provided very full bottles of seed mix, I can only think that golfers here are lazy and inconsiderate. We filled as many divots as we could (brought in empty bottles). Similarly, people did not repair their pitch marks on the green. I feel bad for the owners of this course for how golfers treat the course. To the owners: with the greens fees that you charge, you can spring for ball washers on every hole.

Played On 08/30/2014Nice starter course for your Pinehurst vacation
Front nine is flat and features the rails from an old race track. Back nine has considerably more character with substantial elevation changes and severe doglegs. Would encourage the course to create a hybrid yardage with its own slope and rating as 6600 yds (blue tees) is too long for most golfers and 6000 yds (white tees) is too short. We created our own by playing all the par 4s from the blues and par 3s and 5s from the whites; worked well for us. Although the greens were recently aerated, they were receptive and playable. Staff was friendly.
Thank you for your review. We are very happy that you enjoyed your round at The Carolina Club. Your side note about the flies is very true but they are "May Flies" so they have run their course and are (thankfully) GONE! Your business is greatly appreciated. We hope to see you again soon!
